bansheebeaten(sp?) had a good guess for the breakdown part in the middle
"dark cloud..descending again and a shadow moves in/rolls in?" Or something like that.

Heh, yeah I was thrown off by him skipping the pre-recorded vocals at the start of Dark Cloud too, but it must've just been him messing around since he started singing before the beat even kicked in.
Also, I have to say that I was skeptical at first but after seeing him live, I can see why he might've cut some of the songs from last year's tour. Everything sounded much more collected and smooth in comparison to the almost chaotic/jagged beats he used on stuff like Wazzup and Til I Die. It's hard to explain but makes sense in my head i guess.
And I'm still feeling optimistic that we'll see the first part of Heart and Soul somewhere, even if it's not on the record. That vocal melody is way too strong to just discard. That one had single potential, I thought.
I feel ya on the new stuff definitely losing that jagged feel that those two songs had. The whole death vibe that the original pair of songs had has been lost in translation through the polishing process and has been replaced by this sort of sugary, dreamy sound, which harkens back a bit to person pitch.
Not that I mind, though, since I'm a sucker for those kind of jams, but the whole panda bear meeting the grim reaper thing seems like a ruse at this point.
I also doubt that those two songs (Till I die/ Wazzup) are going to make it onto the album because they just sound so out of place now. Unless, Panda Bear has reworked those tracks too.
Otherwise, A pre-album single with those masterpieces (Wazzup/Till I Die) would be perfect hahah. Transition and all.

Can't come back is amazing, like every single song is....I wonder if Panda uses a recording of someone doing Tchaikovsky or if he got someone to play the harp and recorded it, since he said he was using self-made samples. It's almost Panda covering Tchaikovsky, because he hits at least one big note that directly refers to the piece, and the melodies definitely intersect at points, beyond the repeating harp arpeggios. he does it beautifully...kinda changes the way I hear Pas de deux/whatever it's called from Nutcracker, check this performance..

Are there any triple eye lovers here? Im pretty bummed out thats axed from the recent shows. I thought the vocal melody he had going with the ascending descending bit was pretty sweet.

I almost wouldn't be surprised if Can't Go Back became the title track. Also: is Fill Those Spaces is a song directed at his audience at shows or what?

I haven't been this excited for a new AC release since Honeycomb dropped.
That "Other Guy" song is amazing, "Day After Day" too. So many great songs, such a great album title. Too many expectations.

Anyone know what the best video of Can't Come Back would be?

I haven't looked that hard for Can't Come Back boots, but this one seems to be really good. It's from last year, though. So you don't get the awesome Danny Perez visuals.

I'd be interested in a more recent video with good quality as well since Can't Come Back is the only song that I've indulged myself with (unless you count the Principe Real instrumental from CHz Radio). If I could find a video with the same quality as the one above, and more recent, I would probably cave and listen to all of the songs.

The Panda ATP boot is in the All Known Live Recordings thread in the Live Discussion forum. There you will also find a wealth of live recordings of the band as well as solo projects.

I just listened to Principe Real from the Brooklyn boot....
So Panda is doing dance-pop songs now? That is so incredibly straightforward to the point that it's disappointing. Not trying to rain on anybody's parade, but maybe I should personally lower my expectations. I still love Can't Come Back though.

yeah i love all the changes except the new principe real. it used to have that really cool minimal jam city vibe (and i assumed it was inspired by jam city because he debuted it in that centipede hz mix with "her" by jam city in it) but the added parts make it sound kinda overblown like an old mgmt thing
i dont mean to sound negative though i'm obsessed with this stuff and all the other tracks sound really improved, and i was crazy about them in the first place from last years boots

yeah, principe 2.0 is not the best representative when it comes to this new stuff - the rest of the material is huge, even with the changes and cuts (that would have been nice to keep, but noah knows what he's doing...)

guys uhh new principe real is fantastic! although clayton was right, that synth sounds like the one in electric feel

haha i'm not the first one to compare it to mgmt?? then there must be something to that

there should be a Principe Real ep or single that comes with Wazzup and the other ones that are missing from the recent shows and then do everything else in the show as it is now on the LP..I feel like Principe sticks out or feels redundant with this set. it would be perfect..
also, the boots have me thinking now that my favorite ac stuff might be when Avey and Panda are alone with a sampler based set-up, or with a guitar too, like dt stuff and pp/tomboy...they might be even better alone than together...

totally agree, principe just doesn't do much for me like it is now. still good, but i'm really missing the atp version

The new version of Principe fits in much better with the rest of the songs. If panda kept it the same as the old version, it would stick out even more like a sore thumb.
And people are acting like comparing it to electric feel is almost a bad thing. Mgmt is a cool band and if panda is getting a few pointers from them, I don't mind.

it's not bad, but it seems like it might be one of the oldest of these tracks, going by the chz radio release..maybe he overcooked it a bit? I just think it'd be cool if they had some of the harder hip hop stuff with a principe real, and then the lp would be so sick with all the rest...he should also put Sheherezade 2.0 on the lp, even tho it's not that different, it just goes well this these songs/the theme of death. and Soft Serve should be a instrumental segue on it..

whoa you are totally right. just listening to the string melodies over the harp I hear so many similarities to pandas version. definitely a very interesting way to approach writing/adapting a song.

Tmz moment here. Im getting a vibe that most of the song is about him and his wife? Or some sort of falling out of a relationship? Other guy is about jealousy. Fill those spaces about someone irreplacable. Dark clouds about dark times ahead. Can't come back, as the name suggests, about not being able to go back to that special time in a relationship when love just dominates.
Am i reading into it too much? Maybe its cos i myself am in a dark frame of mind with me and my guy

Yeah. To be honest principe from atp was the one song i actually didnt really like... But im all over this new version for some reason. Been humming the chorus at work all day
Edit: btw which boot has the Scheherazade 2.0 that everyone's talking about. The latest one i have is from brooklyn. It sounds the same as tomboy version??

^Ya it's pretty much the same except at some point he tweaks the melody and goes higher than normal and it sounds rlly epic and the 'oooooohs' at the end are samples. it's in the Brooklyn one from dance avey
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9NdbdJmLKA#t=7m3s
And nevermind, he said in some interview that he was kind of trying to write abt relationships in general and the conflicts ppl have, but that it's not necessarily always personal. something like that
