they probably won't review it cause they don't want to hurt deakin's feelings and if they did a review it would be negative just because.

i think they'll review it. probably like 8.2 no it's ok because they don't have the balls to it's ok an AC project that's not panda bear.

maybe they just figure that anyone who is aware of this album is probably going to listen to it and maybe they don't need a review to explain what the album's about and stuff. or maybe it's just not quite notable enough since Pitchfork isn't hyping AC anymore. idk, just spitballing, I don't really know how they decide these things

Honestly I think they might be waiting a bit if they aren't really feeling it... since the person who wrote the interview was like "it's actually good" and they don't want people to be like "wait what, you just published an interview that directly praised the album in the intro"

Anyway guys, Golden Chores is such a beauty!!

Or is it Golden Cord? Sorry that Bandcamp page is so ambiguous and hard to read! :(

I just mean that Deakin fans are an even more niche audience than AC fans so maybe they don't really need a review to tell them what to think about the album, they are probably familiar enough with Deakin's music that they can decide for themselves. not that I think that's what music reviews are supposed to do

Pitchfork, except in very rare cases, ala something like To Pimp a Butterfly, usually takes a little bit longer to review surprise releases like this. Oftentimes they end up reviewing things pretty impulsively, so more time is probably best for this.

How can anyone even look at that website anymore? Both philosophically and aesthetically. That ish is ugly.

lol ok I can understand where some of the Pitchfork hate comes from but I don't get why people completely shit on them. They actually have some really great writing, this piece on the early 80s Chiago music scene was dope http://pitchfork.com/features/article/9 ... s-of-1984/

Andy Beta's Electric Fling column is also cool

(sorry to get off topic)

Spoiler: show
it really is weirdly ugly/badly designed now. wont spend anymore time talking abt it/thinking about it, but after the absurdity of that shit-post that was the PW review (not that i shld give a fuck) and their new design, i stopped going there daily and like my quality of life has improved (lol). not actually that big of a deal and like totally read p4k if u want, but ya i recently stopped going there and realized how weird it was that i checked that site everyday in the first place when theres plenty of other sites/blogs that do the same thing essentially except they offer comment sections and seem generally less weird/political.

and ya vic i see that too, like some of their articles are very niche and well-written/interesting so going there from time-to-time is totally reasonable for those, i just hate a lot of other things abt them and their place on the internet. like why does almost every music forum have ppl who feverishly anticipate their reviews on things and take them to heart? something is very wrong with that and it might not even be p4ks fault, but their numbers dont help.

also a reviewer recently compared Frankie Cosmos to the ancient Greek poet Sappho and i died a lot insde/threw up in my mouth (my fault for checking the review obvs!) end of rant, tldr srry
but ya sorry lets change the subject. 1 week later and this album is just as amazing :)

and more solo Deakin! i feel greedy but i cant deny im very stoked already to hear the next thing he puts out or tours, and it seems inevitable that the next AC lp will have 1 or more Deakin led songs which would be amazing

i mean, i don't care about p4k itself. i just care about the number of people who will hear this wonderful music if p4k gives it a good review, even if that in concept is kind of annoying (i.e. their influence). anyway, it was a surprise release, so they didn't get an advance copy or anything. i have a feeling they'll review it.

I remember reading in an interview or something somewhere.. where avey said not to put down p4k for their review on painting with.. he said he gets it and rating something doesnt mean anything to him... and also said theyve been good to them so.. I dont like the website as much because the direction theyve taken is not so indie rock anymore so I just dont go to it as much.. if they have something of interest.. ill go... no need for hate though. The music scene is just different than the prime of the indie rock days.. and you can argue that animal collective was a big influence for the change towards more electronic based music.

anyway I do hope p4k reviews sleep cycle and gives it a good one for deakins sake.

^ yea

There's always going to be a place for music publications, no need to hate on them. He's right, p4k has been good to AC in terms of publicity and quality articles. whether or not you agree with their reviews (there's also a debate to be had for their positive or negative impact on the world of "indie" music), they've always supported AC

bros i can't even rip p4k because when i was 16 or 17 i saw some panda bear band got a 9.4 on their site and i had never really read music reviews before. i was like "wow that sounds good i should check out this panda bear guy" and also i initially assumed he was in some way in cahoots with grizzly bear

I admit Pitchfork singlehandedly got me into Colin Stetson

I think they influenced me to get into Danny Brown as well, along with President Biden

Possibly Missy Elliott as well?? I've forgotten where I first saw that documentary about her
