I'm guessing some news will come out after PB finishes touring mid- October? I'm hoping that anyway, if nothing comes sooner

Off the subject for a quick question guys...
ok lets say they have a US wide tour and lets just say they play the same ventures as the 2013 tour. What are some awesome venues with good sound to see them play at? I wanna go to one show on each coast too. Im going to the Levitation feat in Austin, Texas and if they do a show in Portland, Maine ill be going to that one as well (my sister lives there). So, if anyone could suggest any venues on the east and west coast that would be soo sweet and thank you!

Just had a dream that the release date is July 25th, 2016. It was on the AnCo FB page and they said it was going to be partly acoustic and partly electronic. Also some live tracks thrown in. Could this be...

Well that would be awesome because it would fall on my birthday. A long ways off but any sort of announcement at this point would be welcome.

that's cooked, I think they just mistook his solo ventures as a departure from the band

yeah, it doesn't make sense for him not to be on the album if he was in all the photos looking for synths a couple of months back

I have a feeling we'll get some new info by this weekend since PB is playing some of his last greaper shows. If they know what's good for them, hopefully some of you NYC fans will ask all the right questions about the new album

I really wish AC would release a statement or do an interview about either the album or tour. I'm really interested to hear how the Levitation Festival came along with them headlining with Brian Wilson. I have such a feeling that important people have already heard songs off the new album and they are really eager to have AC be apart of their fest knowing that this album is going to be huge ! And with the fest being in late April, I'm hoping the album drops before hand.

Lately, I've been thinking a lot about possible themes that may appear on this upcoming album.

For some reason I feel like this will be their 'tech' album. One where they primarily address and use contemporary technology and methods that effect their lives (their iPads, cutting edge modular synths, heavy DJ influences)
I'm not exactly sure how I feel about this idea, but perhaps they'll address current modern societal critiques. Like, "everyone always has their phones out; strangers don't talk to each other anymore," or "we live so much of our lives through social media" or "everywhere we look there is an advertisement." But instead of being overly critical, they go for a more open ended approach. Like how both Dave and Noah write lyrics that evoke specific relatable, emotional states, but are also ambiguous at the same time.

I'm totally grasping at straws, but part of me believes the secrecy of this upcoming album has to do with them trying to escape the attention or the influence they receive from the Internet. They are a band whose popularity is directly tied with the acceleration of digital technology and maybe they want to see the results if that influence is limited

Idk, maybe I've been listening to too much Aphex Twin / Kid A

Have mentioned the possibility of a tech theme before, Texas. Really like your second point too, think you could be on to something

The whole "everyone on their phones" thing seems really shallow to me though, kind of a low hanging fruit observation

I wouldn't imagine it would be anything this heavy-handed. Tex was just offering up a trite example.

Of course, they've already touched on this before (Mercury Man, Screens) so it's possible it won't appear on the next LP.

It's hard to say exactly what I would want Avey to sing about before I've heard it. All of his songs are always something I never knew I needed to hear, so I'm happy with whatever he's got up his sleeve, really.

I really hope they don't do the whole modern tech thing (lyrically/conceptually/whatever). That's such a tired old topic, seriously.

I agree that it would sound really awkward or cringeworthy if they made a song that had obvious lyrics such as, "ugh, all these people on their phones, smh," or "XD, so excited to upgrade to an iPhone 6s!," but the band rarely ever writes lyrics that direct (at least Dave doesn't).

Also, you do make a great point Cans, some of these topics have been touched upon in past releases, but I think there's still enough fresh territory to explore, especially if they opt for a more club / dance music based sound.

And mouthwater, I see where you're coming from, albums addressing modern tech have become commonplace, but I don't think it's a tired topic. Just like how 'love' or 'family' are super common themes, AC still found a way to write many excellent songs about them. And keep in mind, modern technology covers a broad spectrum, just like how Feels covers a broad spectrum of love songs, I feel like an AC album addressing these issues could have a lot of room not to become stale.

The problem is when the next wave rolls through that topic will no longer be relevant to future societies. So the album will become a product of its time.

I don't see how that's a problem. As long as the melodies, beats and other sonic elements of the album are still strong, it should still stand the test of time.

Think of Vietnam War protest songs. They aren't exactly relevant today, but the good ones are still worth listening to and even after 50 years there are elements that are still relatable

i feel like AC lyrical themes are generally way too human to focus on something like society's obsession with technology or whatever

Re: AC neXt Studio Album.

by Texas Trill
True, but I can see them reflecting upon these themes through their own personal experiences.

For example, the unreleased solo Avey song, 'In Photographs' could be about the photos he takes and the ones that people take of him. But that was written 5 years ago, so maybe he decides to update it for this new album with the inclusion of Instagram and communicating with others through that app
