I don't :( Someone on the last board saved whatever they could find but I can't remember who that was. Maybe they'll see this and post everything!

If 00 to 05 is "experimentation" then they make the best music when theyre experimenting. I think just calling it that discredits the time's amazingness. Their early years are their golden age imo

Sung Tongs started in '03. The "experimental phase" is '00 - '02

And I do not think the word "experimental" is a bad thing. The songs during that period are just less refined. That doesn't make them better or worse. We wouldn't have any of the music that resulted from those experiments without those formative years. I love it all.

They were better when they were less consciously influenced by trad composition and structure, because they hinted at it instead of being bound to it. An alien rock band is the weakest druggie concept you've ever heard.

I like the word experimental, but for AC, for some reason, I think abstract would seem more appropriate, no? And sorry about the ranting violence Vovenbarg, that's not me, that's Pumpkin.

I get where youre coming from, but i dont think those were "formative" years in the first place. Just because it went from weird to less weird doesnt mean they formed into that. Thats suggesting the more melodic music was a progression, like the music became better. And thats just a matter of opinion

In my opinion, they are a better band post HTCI. I love the early stuff, but you put on any of their albums after '03 and tell me you don't hear the magic.

I just started bumpin' Down There again as well. A lot of the songs are resonating with me in a new way. Ghost of Books and 3 Umbrellas are better than I remembered.

heads hammock is pretty underrated imo. the pitched-and-slowed-vocals are timed so well in that song

Can't believe people took it as an opportunity to complain more about the cornpilled/rescheduled shows.

Crimson would probably sound like Too Soon if it had been recorded in '03. I like to daydream about a HCTI era Winter Wonderland as well

the chorus of Winter Wonderland reminds me of the
"say-you say-you say-you love-me love-me love-me" part of native belle

I'm pretty sure Brian shot this rumor down in an interview saying that the only song to make it out of the HCTI era was Ice Cream Factory --> 206 during early Feels stuff

I actually did a solo EP about eight years ago, but it was never intended for release. just to keep me busy during a bad breakup when I didn't want to think about anything in real life. I had a bunch of sounds which I just edited together. We were gonna release it on Soccer Star (the original name of Animal Collective) because distributors were wary of us being a one release label. But I just didn't feel like it was something I made with the intention of releasing so we never did. I don't really consider myself a solo artist. I used to listen to pure sound records a lot, but it got old. For me to listen to a pure soundscape record it has to be really good, way better than I'm capable most of the time. The world doesn't need more self-indulgent records by people making weird sounds so I'm not really inspired to make one. I mostly get inspired by Dave [Portner, aka Avey Tare] and Noah [Lennox, aka Panda Bear's] melodies. That's why I play in AC -- so I can consistently have my mind blown by those guys.

That was a total Geologist interview. So simple, so straight forward, and laid back when it came to answering the questions. That's why I love him.
