I just realized how amazing of a synth/modular synth album this is! So many amazing synthetic sounds on this record. I am so curious how much of this was Pete's influence, or if Panda is also a synth head and was making a lot of these textures, or just mostly the songwriter...

bit of a bump, but i still love come to your senses hehe. so hypnotizing. weird how i remember listening to the boots when they came out in 2013 and they were like really dry percussive thingys like homies but then on record a lot of them got super hypnotizing and reverby. it really works for come to your senses hehe

Best song of the era along with Crosswords for me

Takes one person to suggest & another to agree . Without both it’s a dead duck . Two visions. One mindset xp

Great idea, it's quite curious how streaming has basically kill the idea of ghost track just showing the duration of a song

Though tbh , it takes someone to suggest & another to agree , so I guess really it’s a team effort . Steady as she goes out there. Love xp

Sir a question: there are some specific reason behind the decision of not putting Jabbeworchy on the album?

There was just too many songs & that song wasnt shining thru as much as others . I did additional work on the tracks that went on that Crosswords EP . The chewy synths were added for that

Do you guys prefer the version of Crosswords on the EP or on PBMTGR?

I think the EP personally, but honestly the best is the live performance because the long
Lead in to the drum drop is amazing

This 100% the live version is probably top 5 PB songs for me. The 2014 SF Fillmore performance is the one I listened to a thousand times. I felt the album version lost a lot of the momentum and energy that the live one had, mainly cuz the intro got axed but I also think the way he sang it live was really beautiful and it felt kinda not there on the album. The live version always gave me a feeling of motivation/you can do it/keep on trucking that I don't really get from music usually. New Order's Ceremony gives me that feeling too. But EP Mix >>>> Album for me cuz I think the robot voice loop on the album version kinda detracts from the main bloopy loop, drum loop and piano chords.

The track also makes me think of two of my favorite J Dilla beats.

All in all, this song has been a big part of my life for the last 10 years, a hug when I needed one. Thanks PB!

i really wish the stu version was a bit more focused on the percussion, rather than smashing it all together into a nice mesh hehe. but i think i've said that about ten thousand times in the last decade (mind blown ... )

That's a good question. Hard to say. In my mind when I think abou the grim reaper I think about album + eps all together..like a double album. I don't know if I give the idea..

Genuine question: I've never been able to spot the difference! What makes the EP version different from the album version?

The mix is completely different. The arpeggios and the drums are much louder while Noah's voice is a little less prominent. The vocoded voice is also quieter.

Neat! This seems like something I would have caught but maybe I need to do a back to back comparison listen

Anyone else think ‘Butcher Baker…’ is one of his best tunes? Such a satisfying cut, gives me frisson every time it comes on

I loved it so much live, but i never understood the mixing choices for the album ... it's always sounded really muddy and unclear to me, just too much going on. the live version had better-defined sonic parts, but it still achieved that really dreamy swimming quality (and i liked the melody he sang live more)
