I checked google for animal collective tour, and it interpreted Love Field as being the airport in dallas, so it displayed that the show was happening in Dallas, TX. I thought it was a strange venue but I was super duper hyped for a Dallas show and even told my friend in dallas about it. Then I looked more into it and...

Shanedabes on Reddit thinks that Kerosene is called Passerby (saw the name pop up during the song at the same place as Native Belle) and that Shine is Dragon Slayer, saying they distinctly it remember having the “good (k)night shine” chorus at Tucson

So guys
Spoiler: show
Native Belle totally rips. It's so cool to hear them playing something like that so faithful to the original wild energy.

Which makes me think... I really like the new stuff, but it just seems kind of tame overall. i didnt really expect to say this, but its not weird enough for me i dont think. I know they have it in them to play wilder, looser, more idk psychedelic? i know that energy is possible because of how well theyre playing native belle. Maybe it has to do with the fact that the tour just started, the material is new. the painting with stuff really loosened up over time

I listened to the 2004 Cats Cradle boot earlier and hearing Kids on Holiday and Banshee Beat was just spectacular, but it made me miss that kind of looseness. I know this is no new sentiment around here. its just fresh on my mind after listening to the new boots / knowing that they are still interested in playing like that to some extent

You ain’t alone...my wife did the same thing and got me so psyched that I ended up driving all the way to Tulsa (from Houston) once my bubble got burst. But hey, they premiered an album in an airport, how much of a stretch would it be to play a show on the tarmac? I’m sure they could work the jet engine noise into the set...

I’ve seen this band probably around 25 times at this point, and I’m still trying to process what I experienced last night. I saw them a handful of times pre-MPP release, then once that record came out, and then during CHz and PW. Each album cycle it felt like they were changing, but not necessarily getting “better”. That’s not to say that they felt like they were getting worse either, just different. But last night was a big step up. The musicianship is just on another level now. The vocals sound fantastic, the arrangements full (and full of emotion). The crowd felt undeniably hooked. In the past, particularly at festivals, I’d always look around and feel like the crowd was sorta into it, but the non-diehards were hanging on by a thread. This has changed. I’ve never seen a crowd so immediately jiving with new material, and I’ve definitely not felt such a connection between the crowd and band during the classics.

In short, I really think the magic is back, and at a higher level.

Hey I have a question, but I need to preface it by saying I am absolutely not complaining or trying to be an asshole, but I feel like at the beginning of this year the dudes talked about doing some special shit for MPP's 10th, and, while the boots and footage from this week's shows have been like on a whole other level, they're only really giving the MPP era 2-3 songs a night
Spoiler: show
No More Runnin, On a Highway, In the Flowers
and like again these jams sound and look amazing, but I guess I assumed there'd be something more substantially connected to MPP.

is some whole other level shit in the pipeline, or is the power of
Spoiler: show
On a Highway
live the big 10th birthday gift unto itself or maybe we should keep our fingers crossed for some next level rad shit before the end of the year, or did something crazy and amazing happen like four months ago that I somehow missed?

:negative:

I’ve got to agree about it not being weird enough. But I’m not worried- it sounds like Avey suggested the music is still being developed and built upon. I also felt the same way about Cows when it came out but it’s grown to be one of my favorite ac releases in a long time.

I really like the new songs so far. Except that they put sloppy clown makeup on the middle section of Defeat...

i'm not 100% but this tour is just a regular tour as they did in the past (although much shorter), to roadtest some new material before recording. definitely not MPP anniversary celebrations at all. (which would be awesome!) and was never officially announced as such so shouldn't be so disappointing.... if they said something it was probably an idea they were having or their plans simply changed, who knows.

but yeah i saw someone else sad it wasn't a greatest hit type set and i was like :?: where did that get announced ?!?

also pretty sure you didnt miss anything, they just havent done it yet. :ugeek: (if at all )

In January they teased “we hope to release some other MPP related sounds and sights over the next couple of months...” but yeah, I definitely don’t recall ever thinking that would tie-in with this tour.

It’d be cool to see what Josh might add to some of those tracks but I can’t say I’m not 1000x more excited by the additions of the other tracks we’ve seen so far!

Hopefully once this tour wraps up we might get something like a soundboard recording from some MPP era shows.

Tru tru

Can’t stress enough how stoked I am about all the stuff happening out west this week! Love it love it love it!! Just making sure I didn’t miss something, and to be sure, my only source is the January announcement they had made about doing something special. Frankly new shit is way more special than anything else we could ask for - especially a greatest hits set - new life stuff all day ever day!

Another MPP soundboard would be lit!

For now I'll just say that a lot of this has the potential to be some of their best work. Defeat, Prester John, Dragon Slayer and Passerby already give me chills. wowee ok I finally got around to these and this stuff is nuts. its like trippy psych-lounge proggy like dad-rock style melancholy + the weirdness Avey's autotune adds.

this new Prester John is rad but its different enough where we're gonna need some release of the New Orleans version.

Passerby and Cherokee are standing out. end of Passerby is massive. I dont think ive heard the Dragon one, not sure...

this is gonna be their jazz-damaged classic rock dirge album, but its also like plastic soul reggae or some shit idk

Cherokee has such a hype ass middle part/climax wow... reminds me slightly of Contra or Mvoc Vampire Weekend a touch.

its like beautiful, hype and almost like sexy in a way AC doesn't often try to be. this autotune is a pretty sweet development. it was only a matter of time, and some of the Vox processing has already been relatively similar anyway.

also these like vibraphone-y( and marimba-y maybe?) and like bell vibe that is cropping up weirdly makes me think of Wowee Zowee Pavement

and new Prester John reminds me of the Suicide is Painless M*A*S*H theme song lol, or like the new melody at least. but then it flows into the old chorus' 'kept its fast. I dig it but yeah, for second time, I def still need the OG version. its like 2 totally different songs...

New prestor John sounds like old prestor John and Sunset had a baby. Except that old.prestor John is still a lil better despite the fact that Sunset is the best AC track in years
