Just skimmed through Neu 75 and I don't think it's on there. It's not the piano on Leb' wohl—that sounds like 2 notes to me, and Carrots is just one note, I think. Plus it's not in the right key.
I suspect that Frederick thought that that was it because that song features the sound of waves too. Honestly now that I think about it searching for this piano sample is probably a fool's errand. PB didn't just sample records on Person Pitch, there's a wealth of sound effects and field recordings on there, so we might never find the source. Also, this whole time I had been thinking that it was a sort of trilled/repeated piano note, but it might even be a single note with tons of delay on it. Hmm.
Now that I've given up the next post in this thread is probably gonna be someone who found it

One of the 2007 boots allows you to hear the piano properly as it fades into Comfy. I want to say Noah just added delay to a single note, but there's a harmonic from another note in the sample that rises up before being cut off. It's the 'dana-da-Nah'. It's those ghost harmonics that seem to make the magic and character of a sample, which is why a lot of covers can sound so bland even when playing the songs right.

Today was my yearly search for the closing sample on "Alvin Row". Needless to say, I've dug up nothing. All that we really know is that 1) it comes from a children's record and 2) another sample (used for some live performance) was likely taken from that same record. I remember contacting a collector of children's vinyls but he had no idea where the dialogue could have come from.
I swear, whoever has the source is sitting on the holy grail of AC lore.

I'm with you on this one. It's the perfect end to a near perfect album.

On the old message board Avey said it was Panda with a pitch effect, but he was called out and admitted he was lying. Believe it was a little rascals record that naturally skipped that way

Forgot to respond to this, good point about how sometimes it's not just the notes in the sample that are important but also some of the subtle overtones that you don't immediately notice.
I forgot how useful live recordings can be for sample-digging. The People Party dvd also lets you hear some of the samples fairly clearly, like the vocal (?) sample that comes in during the "Just this good, girl...just this good, girl" section of Good Girl

Why do I have a sneaking suspicion that this might be the source of the Street Flash scream laugh sample...?
that's not the right sample, but Geo has said that he used free sound.org for samples. A few years ago I found the beginning to cobwebs, that little drum beat. It sounds like it was built from multiple samples but the entire beat is one sample taken from freesound.org. I doubt I could find it again, i was just scrolling and looking for stuff for my self.

those Tomita records (/wendy carlos) - so great for sampling! I saw a crappy movie recently - The Experiment, but somewhere in the film the music was steel drum bach, and I was reminded of these synth records and how handy it is to sample bach on unconventional instruments, def gonna be on some "xylophone bach FLAC" soulseek searches...
also heads up re:"respect", outing samples in a thread like this can result in litigation, while no one knows how frequently these things happen (nondisclosure agreements as pt of settlements), it's worth considering

You really think so? Most of the samples they use are so warped or obscured that they're probably okay to use, especially considering how short many of them are used. The only samples I'm surprised they used so liberally was that pan flute sample, that one is a bit in your face. But honestly, I think AC will be fine.

Oh, i wasn't aware. Now, typically I specialize in bird-law, but I guess our boys will should be alright then.
Posted this in the AC board in Psycho Actives, but Geo posted this on the GvB takeover today, sounds to me like some of the vocals sampled in Stretching Songs
This is actually fucking history holy shit
Where did you find this?

Ok the new live water curses is driving me insane.. There is a sample that I know I have heard somewhere but I cannot for the life of me place it. its the clicking stretching sound that can be heard at 1:00:08 and 1:00:11 and more throughout the song
^That's in the studio version too, but other than WC I don't know any other songs that use that sample. It could be a stock sound effect, so maybe you've heard it in a tv show or something

It sounds like when you drag a guitar pick across piano strings.

yeah it does sound just like the original. I just felt like for some reason i heard it somewhere else and that that sample came from another song/movie. Thanks!

Hey guys,
I haven't been on these forums for, literally, years, but the other day a friend of mine played this Dead Can Dance song and I'm almost 100% sure that AC sampled the introduction, though it's layered with either effects or other instruments.
Anyways, here is the Dead Can Dance song:
Then if I sample it and play around here is the result:

Kinda sounds familiar, uh?

man that sounds right to me. i think they looped a smaller sample of it though, you don't hear as much of the bell movement on Graze
