Haha yeah my parents like Person Pitch, some of MPP, and Campfire Songs but they can't stand Tomboy, etc. Love to see their reaction to Danse or HCTI. Every single time I play Panda in the car my dad turns it down thinking some of the backing track is the car having problems or something.

My girlfriend in the car listening to Sung Tongs:

"This music makes it feel like it's summer, the car's AC is broken, these seats are leather, and the doors are locked forever."

I don't put them on when we're hanging out anymore.

Do people honestly get a kick out of openly criticizing and putting other people's music down? I find that odd. Even if I don't dig something I would never tell my friends/family/etc. some snide remark about it, in fact I just try to be polite if I don't like it, and I think they do the same for me. I'm really surprised at how many of y'all's friends and families are kind of assholes. :goatse:

i wouldnt consider someone my friend or family if i was 'polite' to them about something like musical taste. i says whats on my mind

Well I mean polite in the sense that I try to avoid hurting their feelings so I choose my words carefully. Yea its good to be honest but acting passive aggressive just makes you look like a cock.

I feel my strongest relationships, both in friends and family, are the ones where we can poke fun at each others' unique tastes and no one lets it get to them because we know it's all subjective in the end. It's honest, and the things we do share an appreciation for become that much more special.

that's cool if it's just playful teasing, I guess I just thought some of those responses came from a place of malice. Personally I was just baffled because if any of my friends had said some of those things (mostly stuff from here http://collectedanimals.org/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=630) I would just wonder why they chose to be so hostile about it if they know I like it, but I guess it's hard to denote the connotations of what someone says when its typed out on a forum. Most of my good friends and I aren't really into 'teasing' each other maybe we're just very sensitive people I don't know so it's possible I overreacted.

I just heard Tuvin for the first time, and God is it terrifying. As is most of this set.

tuvin reminds me of an acoustic-proto-Scheherazade. especially the gov island version

I thought I'd listened to everything years ago already but had not heard that set before. That version of Tuvin is otherworldly. It sounds very ODDSAC to me. Thanks for posting that.

I don't know why I just thought of this, but imagine if Leaf House didn't have that synth at the very beginning. What if it just started with the acoustic guitar/singing/drums? It would still sound good, but it would be a much less exciting beginning to the album.

I get so hyped every time I hear that opening synth. It's like descending into another world. Like getting sucked into a vortex and reemerging in this foreign, otherworldly place—a place where instead of speaking, people communicate with pounding drums and bizarre yelps & tongue clicks, and where they dance around and worship the flowers and trees...

Sorry...Sung Tongs gets me going man

That is a really cool point tho, like that opening synth is ostensibly such a minor part of the song, but it just adds so much. The whole song would have a different vibe without it.

Yeah exactly. I never think about it but it's so essential, just like that flurry of noise at the beginning of In The Flowers.

I don't think that is a synth.

That's a fair point. Like many of the sounds on Sung Tongs, its origin is hard to pin down.

Reminds me of how Dave said that for Kids on Holiday they recorded a door slamming and then heavily distorted it or something

Or were you referring to the beginning of In The Flowers, Dyland? I don't think that one is a synth either, but I just think it's a perfect way to begin MPP

It's pretty fun to listen to Feels and imagine it's a children's music album. Like the Wiggles or something. Maybe I'm too high but I swear it works.

Kinda like this

EDIT: To clarify, I mean Feels reminds me of the second band in this video. Although the first band has some Hollinndagain vibes

I am laughing really hard at the idea of some buzzfeed reader seeing that list never having heard of Panda Bear before, and then going on to believe that Brian is Panda Bear.

Then watching live videos of AC and thinking "He sings a lot on his solo records, why doesn't he sing with the band?"

Which AC album has the best opening noise?
I'm split between "Shhhhhh do you wanna hear a secret?" and the MPP spaceship powering-up noise

I didnt know until recently that the spaceship noise at the beginning of In the Flowers is saying "I'm a dancer, I'm a dancer, I'm a dancer..."

And im tied between that sharp whirring noise at the beginning of Sung Tongs and the laugh sample at the beginning of Feels.

I like how Victor explains it

As for Feels, the laugh sample makes me feel really nostalgic for some reason in a good way.. Its on that one neon indian song too.. Even though its probably just some random laugh track, I feel like I've heard it before a long time ago from somewhere else

I've thought about this before (which album beginning is best), and it is an incredibly tough decision. I'd have to go with Sung Tongs, for the reasons I explained above ^ in the post that fly quoted.

I'm really impressed by the beginning of every one of their releases though. Every single beginning/intro sets the mood perfectly for what's to come. The haunting ambience of Native Belle...the kaleidescopic freakout of Peacebone...the fragile coo of Vashti Bunyan: "Stiiiilll...."

i like that the first four-ish minutes of campfire songs is the "opening sound" so ill go with that or the feels laughter

Why does my version open with the BMMMSHHH!

I've been unaware of the actual intro all these years...

but in all seriousness I think that is my favorite opening for any AC release. It put such a smile on my face during the online stream.
