every review has gotten me hyped for this album, even from those which were underwhelmed in their listening. lots of juicy tidbits to be excited to hear with my own two ears.
however, through interviews and reviews it seems pretty obvious the vision of this album was drastically changed in the recording/producing process and i will admit i am a little less excited to hear Panda Goes Jimmy Buffet than i was for Panda Goes Sonics/Kinks/stripped down 50s rock n roll.
the sound pallet of Defense was kinda what i was expecting, but the production on both Ferry Lady and Ends Meet were vastly different than what i was expecting.

Weirdly enough when describing strung with everything to people I’ve used the phrase “like if jimmy buffet liked acid instead of margaritas”

Meh, I kinda get the Jimmy Buffer comparision. It's not perfect but the album does sound tropical.

I feel like pb has had a toe in tropical sounds since brothersport or even chores. You can hear it somewhere on just about every record hes been on.

Pretty happy that Domino got their shit together this time and that this didn’t freebird two months before release. As much as the wait sucked, I’d rather the release was done properly for artists.

I’ve had the record for about a week, but I finally decided to listen to it after seeing Noah play live.
I think the tropical vibe was an interesting choice that will grow on most people over time. After reading the message Noah wrote. I think what he’s trying to say is that the uplifting tone of this album is him winning the fight against the sinister reaping grifters. So whoever’s looking for a dark vibe, this isn’t for you, or maybe it’ll change your views.
I think Brian enhances a lot of these tracks with his sampling. His inclusion really exemplifies why he’s such an essential member. Josh and Dave also make really sweet contributions. I love the electric trumpet solo and Josh’s electronic percussion performance. I dont know what Dave was playing, but I wish he did more of whatever that was throughout the whole album.
This is the most “Animal Collective” solo album they have put out. I hope they continue this trend. I’m excited to see how they would all support each other for solo albums. I think all the negative reviews are from people expecting the next MPP or Tomboy, but this is perfectly what it is supposed to be.
I also think seeing Noah live changed how I perceived this album. Having expectations, based on whatever concert footage you’ve seen of him, isn’t going to help with the tonal shift of this release. I’ve seen them all play solo now. I think I got a feel for the vibes each member has. I don’t know how to explain what I mean by bringing this up lol. But I’m glad to see how much progress and advancements they have made in their careers to make this album. This album is the epitome of how far they have made it.

There was a vinyl rip of homies going around ahead of release

Hell yeah, thx for not posting the paywalled link. Not long now! In hindsight I find it satisfying that this didn't freebird. I feel like I'm running through the tape at the finish line...
