I’m a big fan of all of his life eras they’ve all got something special to offer in their own right but this might be peak.. also his guitar tone was so dirty!! Would not have expected that but it worked so well
Absolutely need Selfish Gene in Seattle holy shit. I'm also loving this variety across his eras and am hoping for a lil more Buoys pretty please

i absolutely love how the guitar sounds, and his playstyle of mostly doing repetitive chords makes it like this really dirty bass line.

Show was phenomenal, I had a great time, only wish their set was longer. New songs sounding really high energy and strong, love the heaviness of the sound live, really fun. Sequential circuits and self gene live were great, cool how they adapted the them for this set up. Stand outs for me were take pills, slow motion, never ending game, ferry lady, praise. Loved this set list. I did not hear Alsatian Darn either, which is a song i love so im guessing they just opted not to play it last night. would be great if they had it on the setlist for other shows. Mr Noah too would go crazy. All in all was an awesome show, everyone thats got tickets is in for a treat

take pills was an absolute blast of a rework. the droney intro leading into a full band jam fits perfectly

The Minneapolis show was a blast, but I'm really jealous of Chicago for getting Never Ending Game. The Instagram clip of it getting played in Europe kind of sealed the deal for me going to the show.
Pleasantly surprised with how weird they got - just the right amounts - meaning a little too much - of hypnotic repetition, effects, abrasive mid 60s fuzz guitar, overstimulating visuals, with all the catchiness and beauty for it to pay off. His voice also sounded better in person than I expected from seeing videos of live performances, and the harmonies were gorgeous. I've been avoiding the SG singles, but the impression I've been getting is that it's just kinda straight up normal pop/rock.
Highlights:
Song for Ariel, watch for the little finger tap notes during the intro!
Praise -> Buoys, it got a big reaction from the crowd and I love Buoys
Shepard Tone was wild, cool to see a rock band do that kind of song so well
Minneapolis specific notes:
John Dietrich from Deerhoof was hanging out upstairs during the break, cool that he's a fan!
I've never been blown away by how things have sounded at 1st Avenue. They got a new L'Acoustics PA that I've been excited to hear. I thought it sounded good, but hard to guage as I think Panda's mix is deliberately messy haha.
Bonus stupid clip I thought y'all would enjoy, if it isn't old news. Maybe we can get the AI convo going again!

Is the new one too gross? Felt like a change was in order but maybe The Chevalier is too iconic.

Deerhoof are great!! Their recent IG posts have been so in sync with what me and many of my friends have been feeling politically. Also, I could totally see John Dietrich putting 60s psych guitar riffs on panda songs.

I saw Panda last night in Detroit. I sat in the right balcony and here's what stuck out to me the most:
- The drummer is super awesome, and he was working his ass off.
- It's hard to pick my favorite song from the set, but I really liked the heaviest ones. Sequential Circuits and Virginia Tech were almost metal songs.
- The crowd went cheered for Song for Ariel and Take Pills, but it seems like most people were there to see Toro.

For some reason Ends Meet is not showing up on the Bandcamp preorders. This has the fortunate side effect of me not overplaying it.

ends meet single is so good, I got home again today so was able to listen properly. just beautiful melody and vocals and the lyrics are searching and aching and hopeful and sad and idk. home run again

It was the most memorable song because of how raw it was!

ends meet lyrics, havent seen them posted here yet, pretty neat
[Verse 1]\ It’s enterin’ the area\ Like an ooze\ You’re givin’ in for what
It’s takin’ over you\ Don’t look up\ Punchin’ you in your gut
It’s gonna take good care of ya\ You can’t choose\ Tangled in the rough
And when you come a-grovelin’\ All shook up\ It won’t be good enough
[Pre-Chorus: Panda Bear, Rivka Ravede]\ And when it is my time\ Dig it all\ (And I’ll dig it again)
And when my motor stalls\ Get the engines\ (Started again)
And if it is that time\ Dig it all\ (And I’ll dig it again)
Till the heart don’t beat\ I’ll meet the ends
[Chorus]\ What else can I do?\ What else can I do?\ What else can I do?
[Verse 2]\ They got a spot to bury you\ It’s not news\ You’re tremblin’ for what?
Just keep it in the groove\ Don’t let up\ But keep the doorways shut
You’re in a spot precarious\ Don’t get confused\ It’s gonna call your bluff
And when your eyes are watering\ Dry ‘em up\ It won’t be good enough
[Pre-Chorus: Panda Bear, Rivka Ravede]\ And when it is my time\ Dig it all\ (And I’ll dig it again)
And when my motor stalls\ Get the engines\ (Started again)
And if it is that time\ Dig it all\ (And I’ll dig it again)
Till the heart don’t beat\ I’ll meet the ends
[Chorus]\ What else can I do?\ What else can I do?\ What else can I do?

Was wondering if Dean was ever asked to be on grift. Love dean but it’s hard to imagine him fitting in to the vibe, at least what we know of it thus far. Panda on a dean album is already a dream come true, but dean on a panda album…. ugh maybe one day.
Long ways off…. aaghhh. Hopefully we get an avey album in the meantime. I neeeed are you coming back and your dark burden on an album so bad.

Hearing that Dean was THAT close to being on the record is such a gut punch. Hopefully another time. At the very least I need more PB on Dean’s music.
I really can’t see a new AC record until 2028 at the earliest. Maybe start performing some new tunes in 2027 if we’re lucky.

Damn, Sequential sounds nuts (in the best way). One of my favs of the Reaper era. Really cool to hear the full band re-imagining, or at least 10 seconds of it.

I personally love how abstract his lyrics have been getting! I mourned how depersonalized they got at first but his lyrics have gotten a lot more interesting thanks to it. I see it all the way back to Rosie Oh, where it feels like he really started that storytelling experiment with his lyrics. That one and Ends Meet feel like storybook tales with some kind of lesson to be learned

also love his abstract lyrics, I've talked about it before so won't harp on too much.
Rosie oh is an interesting point of comparison, I see ferry lady being similar in that narrative vein.
The abstract style that began with Grim Reaper really crystallised with homies/buoys. I see ends meet as a continuation of that.
SG generally seems to be taking that style that he honed in on and reintroducing more personal elements, exemplified in defense
