having grown up loving Pas De Deux from Nutcracker the most out of that entire ballet, hearing Tropic live for the first time was a mix of "o hey I know that progression/sample, ya thats a good one" and "wtf r u doing plz stop no no no no don't"

like just listen to pas de deus from the nutcracker. it will crush yr mortal soul and revive u within the same length of time that it takes Tropic to like do a modicum of that. I mean I like tropic but... ya idk. also him jacking that bit from Arabesque in the next track is even more audacious. is there a more well-known snippet from the impressionist canon? idk man, idk.... ( that song is more badass tho and what he does with it is a BIT more deserving of the sample)

plz listen to this, the end will crush u, picture the sugar plum prince lifting the sugar plum fairy into the air repeatedly, each time more impressive than the last, and they are from a touring company based in Dallas and they come to Baton Rouge every xmas and yr sister is Marzipan which is cool too but her song is just NOT on the level of this one

Amen, brother. The Arabesque lift is a barbaric exercise in futility. I actually like the vocals but it's like, you might as well sample I Want You Back. Mad redundant.

i had never thought much about it, but isn't there some chance that the sample was chosen because of its emotional resonance to him or his family, even if that's kind of a ubiquitous association that a lot of other people would have too? idk if he's talked about it in interviews and i don't want to invent personal backstory but it seems possible

I remember an interview for this album where he described his ideas for writing Boys Latin as taking a harmony and spreading the parts out over time to create a new melody or something like that
So I decided to "unhocket" it to see what it sounded like and it's pretty fun! Checkit

Sometimes i would half hallucinate unhocketed snippets along with boys latin it gave me sweats. Also fun: self hocketing where u sing both parts, also gives sweats
Edit: i meant double time unhocketed

Yep! It only exists digitally haha - it’s a bonus on the download. It’s my favorite song from that rehearsal and the studio version is pretty good!

Very interesting - any idea how I can get it?

Pretty amazing to find out this is the case after all these years...I'm a pretty insanely devoted fan since the early days and I never knew this...I've been listening to the demos a lot lately and gyeah-jabberwocky-boys latin-mr noah is insane...

it's amazing that principe real never changed titles from that pre-chz clip considering how up-in-the-air all the track titles were around this time

the live stuff from 2013-14 is probably still my fav ac stuff lol, still unbelievable

I think it was just a news report name dropping the forum for digging the track from a Sonic Boom mix for a french festival (Nantes 2018). Probably pitchfork if I had to guess
It got carried away with the word "article"
