I could totally imagine the lastSwallow at the Hollow piece being used as Shadow of the Colossus.

Sorry for bumping this thread but I am really loving listening to the Rehearsal versions of PBVGR and have been playing it non-stop this week. I wonder if he recorded any soundboard of the live shows because I feel like his live versions of these songs are so brilliant. I would pay some good money even if it was only a digital only release. (a live performance video with danny's visuals would be a dream come true) Chicago blew me away both times I got to see the live show.

Also, that being said I feel like I have been really enjoying Panda a lot during the Painting With Tour. He has been super expressive with his vocal parts and I feel like its in part inspired by how he stretched himself so much on PBVGR to go outside his comfort zone and try some new things.

Thank you Noah and thank you Pete for all the wonderful sounds/secrets/additional info/inspiration you were able to share with us. I will be listening to all of this stuff until my eventual exit from this plane of existence.

holy shit, panda live this year has been crazy. on the recent honolulu recording the hocus pocus outro that sounds otherwordly is all him, the yelling on kids on holiday, the energy he brings to the hocketing. its fucking crazy and beautiful.

Kind of crazy to think that this record is more than 2 years old. Decided to revist it because of all the discussion in the new Avey solo stuff thread.
For the past two years I loved it than was disapointed by it than loved it than disapointed and so on. It is the only record with wich I have felt like this.
Might be because I never been that exited about a record release ever.

yeah i believe someone put them up on youtube. i listen to those more than the album tbh. way more raw production and all the songs are still a little rough around the edges. also i was really disappointed in the EP version of Marijuana Makes My Day, i thought it sounded a lot better without the high harmonies.

Thanks guys, jetski kindly PM them to me. I enjoy the released version a lot despite a few flaws in it and the Eps are fantastic. Theses demo are really interesting some nice weird things in it. Like the samples. Liked the coming to america opening theme used in the cosplay demo worked really well.

I am not sure if they are better then the final product imo. I dig that we have alternate version of it.

some somewhat random thoughts on the finished album versions of pbvsgr songs vs the live versions and the variances between them...

the atp bootleg had a lot of people with demoitis when pbvsgr dropped and pete gave the atp rehearsal tapes out on here afterwards and that's when a lot of people alluding to the notion that the recording process didn't service panda bear songs as much this era.

my personal take is that it helped some songs quite a bit like crosswords, papadum (except that the samples are gone), ctys, tsop, and did a bit of disservice to a few like jabberwocky or cosplay, the latter of which has a version that pete posted that is a perfect mix of the studio and live versions where it contains the sample that the og was built around but the synths that define the studio version make their way in to the mix more prominently as the song progresses.

it's the gradual buildup that i like of that mix of cosplay that I think a lot of people probably would agree would have made worked better if more utilized. for example, he did the harmony vocal on mr noah's last verse but didn't overload the song with harmony vocals from beginning to end.

I've still got so much to say about this album, its so close to my heart. I get the criticisms but it's a very idiosyncratic release that you really have to enter and trip with, leave yourself behind. Most hate i think comes from demoitis rather than a lack of quality choons....
i recently moved all my CDs to the car and love to bump it, there's so much in it that playing it on different speakers and messing with EQs will bring out whole different characters. The percussion in Selfish Gene is prob the most amazing bit of layering and sequencing, there's one sound that feels like its blowing my speaker when it cracks through the top end.... fuck i love it.... and the morphong tidal bass flows that peak and trough throughout....
its SO GOOD
and speaking of Crosswords.... not saying Panda ripped this off but striking similarity

ima gonna do a remix into PM Dawn :weed: :weed: :weed:

i can't comprehend any dislike for this album because the first time i heard it was the first time i ever took mdma and i was under the spell of new love on top of it. so it was injected with blissful heady nostalgia from the start.

Would love to hear a demo of "Come To Your Senses" when it still had that fuzzy layer over it (what was referred to here as "the vacuum song"). Does anyone know if that version is on any of the other boots besides Barcelona 2013?

The only track I have real demoitis about is "Principe Real", the ATP Demo is PERFECT! I kinda wish he saved it for the Homies EP and kept it like that version.

I'd love him to bring it back on the current tour, maybe a bit stripped back but it would flow so good, its a BANGERRRRR :guitar:

I was definitely hoping we’d hear a return of some stripped down greaper songs, honestly a bit surprised he didnt do that. boys latin in particular i wouldve loved to hear in the same crispness and boldness as that atp demo

Beach House are from Baltimore so wouldn't be surprised if they're friends with AC or run in the same circles. There was an interview couple years back where Geo mentioned talking to a touring member of Beach House, so they've at least crossed paths

There was a recent interview with Beach House that elaborated on this.

having grown up loving Pas De Deux from Nutcracker the most out of that entire ballet, hearing Tropic live for the first time was a mix of "o hey I know that progression/sample, ya thats a good one" and "wtf r u doing plz stop no no no no don't"

like just listen to pas de deus from the nutcracker. it will crush yr mortal soul and revive u within the same length of time that it takes Tropic to like do a modicum of that. I mean I like tropic but... ya idk. also him jacking that bit from Arabesque in the next track is even more audacious. is there a more well-known snippet from the impressionist canon? idk man, idk.... ( that song is more badass tho and what he does with it is a BIT more deserving of the sample)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YR5USHu6D6U
plz listen to this, the end will crush u, picture the sugar plum prince lifting the sugar plum fairy into the air repeatedly, each time more impressive than the last, and they are from a touring company based in Dallas and they come to Baton Rouge every xmas and yr sister is Marzipan which is cool too but her song is just NOT on the level of this one
