It's probably true. i look back most fondly on the pre-sung tongs days, but those pics were taken when they were in their biggest creative stride

So the first show i saw was just avey and panda playing as campfire songs at Mercury Lounge. All i remember about it is them playing de soto de son (the version which is on crack box i think) and avey playing one of those tiny backpacker guitars. the show at free 103.9 was awesome: intense and weird and there was a feeling that nobody knew what was going on. they played pumpkin gets a snakebite i think, and avey made those distorted stabs by touching a mic to the speaker of an amp.
