the drums on essplode are unbelievable. i swear noah could have been some crazy han bennink-like improvisational jazz maestro if he had put his energies toward that.

reading through old reviews of person pitch and struck by how much it's compared to Loveless (and more generally dreampop and shoegaze). also no mentions of the dub influence. rockism n all that i guess.

yikes, PP is like at least 50% dub...if not actual dub (carrots), but through use of delay and the general sound of the songs.

Given what Avey is capable of on the piano (applesauce, alvin row +the rest of stgstv), it's really pretty amazing we haven't gotten a lot more piano songs from him

Pullhair rubeye too. Hurts me how downplayed that album was cuz of the whole reversal thing. It sounds amazing either way tbh. It’s easily some of my fav avey songwriting

Amen. Pullhair Rubeye is probably top three AC for me. All these years later, the reversal thing seems even more daft. Nevertheless, the reversed version that was floating around here is an ever present for me.

It's been said but foetus no man live with the lyrics is just devastating. Sasong is my other favourite

Lot of the new full band songs are pretty keyboard heavy. I agree that I'd like to hear some straight up piano though

I still haven't listened to Pullhair Rubeye (I suck). Should I listen to the official reversed version or the *corrected* one first?

there’s one that just reversed & another where it was reversed & tempos adjusted, but i recommend the one that’s just reversed…still one of the most puzzling decisions to reverse it and release it that way.. seems done out of spite. if you need either adjusted version let me know…

I dunno who hasn't watched Inland Empire and decided to reverse a major piece of art they're about to commercially release

You lose all the impact of the singing, which is where these songs get all their power. Yes it still sounds good reversed, but you could reverse any acoustic folkish album and it would pretty much sound like this

I love a good gimmick tbh. Maybe other stuff could sound good reversed but those chords that they wrote still share a certain relationship to each other that makes the official version a proper representation of the art they created

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned already but I noticed Harpy Sketches is up on spotify now. It makes me wonder if the other Keep cassette might follow suit. Or would that be tricky with domino and Preakness? Not sure how that works exactly.

I had to ask for a new download for Painting With since I lost the mp3s somewhere (I hate that Domino doesn't aggregate all their downloads in one place but I digress) and for some reason Gnip Gnop is listed as track 8 and Hounds is listed as track 10. So On Delay is in the middle as track 9 and makes PW a 14 track album. Probably just some mistake but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Were they previously included in the download? They aren't on the album so that would be surprising to have them as tracks 8 and 10.

I don't remember, it's been over 5 years since I downloaded them last. But I had to get a new link from Domino support. My guess is that they combined them into one album for organization reasons so some intern inserted GG/Hounds in random spots and changed the track numbers. Shows up that way on the streaming section on the link as well as the download.

Someone sent me a link to Pullhair Rubeye forwards version (thx), I'll have to dive into it more but it is sweet, I played it while walking along the ocean today. Sasong is definitely a standout on first listen. Btw I haven't listened to the full reversed album yet but I immediately skipped to palenka because I knew it would sound awesome
Ive also been obsessed with PW a little bit again which is an interesting contrast

Did you start or end with Sis around the sandmill?

I prefer reversed tracks but same order - I actually think Sis makes for a better opener than Was Onaip. but Opis Helpus is def more of a penultimate track than a track 2 so I'm torn. no idea what would've been the original ordering intent for the album before it was reversed

i glad to see the positive words for opis helpus, thats def a quintessential ac song that has fallen to the wayside becuz of silly decisions,,, that song is one of the best. when i first listened to that album i couldnt believe they were hiding such an amazing song, maybe that was the intention
