i know this almost certainly isn't the case, but lately i've been thinking of 3 Umbrellas as a kind of response to Bros

the beginning of each song:

'hey man what's your problem, don't you know that i don't belong to you?' ...
'it's not about us holding hands, i don't have to be on top of your plans'

i always thought of three umbrellas as a sort of love letter to the other three guys and the time they spend together. all the lyrics seem to point to that.

Or trapped beneath them
I'm showing my teeth and
I could say I love ya
I'm hiding beneath my dark
Green umbrellas

Can we talk about the funny things
When we're hangin' out the heaviness leaves
It's how it should be
You like all my songs
And we're all just like brothers
You see me beneath my dark
Green umbrellas

Do other people act like fools
I wonder if they feel like we do
We're always teasing
But I can't imagine
If I didn't know ya
I don't take for granted my
Three umbrellas

And if you don't wanna talk, let's sing
That it's been about us, finding new things
It's always pleasing
To share with some people
But they'll never know ya
Or just how I feel 'bout you
Three umbrellas

it might just be me but i feel it's almost overt in his verbage that that's the subject matter. in the same breath, i think bros could be very easily read as panda's willingness/inclination to disassociate with the patterns of his close friends (touched on again in friendship bracelet). that would back your idea up that both songs are two sides of a similar coin.

that being said, three umbrellas could be about rainstorms and bros could be about super mario. who the hell knows but them.

has anyone noticed a similarity between xtc's andy partridge's vocal lines and avey's? has he ever said xtc influenced him in some way?

That's never stood out to me personally but I'm mentally replacing Partridge with a flangy Avey on 'Burning With Optimism's Flame' and sure. 'Jason and the Argonauts' too. Both can have kind of tongue-twister like tendencies.

One thing leads to the next, a touch to a rub to a kiss, and before you know it, Sain is straddling Panda, both of them fully undressed. Both of them fully erect. Sain begins kissing up and down Panda Bear’s chest, his lips are so soft and precious feeling, Panda is almost about to burst just from this alone.

“S-Sain…please…” Sain knows what Panda wants, he kisses down further and further until he reaches Panda’s manhood. He rubs it gently first, feeling the firm member in his strong hands. Without saying a word, he leans his face in closely and begins to lick the top of Panda’s member.

Panda moans, in the cutest voice you can imagine. Sain doesn’t stop there though, he takes the member in his mouth and starts doing his thing. However, this is the first time he’s actually done this sort of thing, so he’s kind of bad at it.
“I’m sorry, Panda… Can I improve?”

Panda grins and says “Open up your throat.”

absolutely. some tracks from english settlement sound a lot like AC, it's nearly africa and melt the guns in particular. i've always drawn heaps of parallels between the careers of AC and XTC.

That clip of the grandpa is pretty funny, especially cause he starts out trying to light it like a crack pipe. But it kinda pisses me off that this might help perpetuate AnCo's reputation as a "drug band"

Ben, most people would turn you away - I don't listen to a word they say.

So true.

I don't see a problem with using "AnCo" on a fan message board. It's just typical web shorthand, and doesn't have to be inextricably linked to that Hipster Runoff silliness. However, saying "AnCo" in conversation is another thing.... Reclaim AnCo!

its even shorter than the other shorthand. I don't think I ever call them AnCo irl.

Should we even call them "Animal" Collective at this point? After all the Animal label turned into Paw Tracks in 2003, so maybe we should have been calling them the Paw Tracks Collective?

I'm going to just go back to calling them Avey Tare, Panda Bear, Geologist and Deakin like they originally intended.
