yeah, the record sounds like it's done, i think it's just a matter of time. getting into the part of the year where if it's still coming out in 2021 i would expect to hear something sooner rather than later

Ish Butler on how seeing The Helio Sequence and AC live (probably 2006 at Neumos) inspired him to start up Shabazz Palaces.
There's also some great anecdotes on creativity in that interview. Ish has a cool comment on seeing rain and being aware of the wonders of existence and not letting the daily grind distract you from that.

on there more than I'd like to admit, like to drop an occasional interview snippet or cool shit from the archive but it always veers back to the memes

i see you in there a lot trying to make productive convo like a true king but it will really always inevitably get drowned out by teens pretending to be high and post shit that here would garner a response of “this is why the band doesn’t post here anymore”

Not to sound like a curmudgeon but it sucks how the internet is gradually making irreverence and irony the default modes of discourse. those things are cool when they're in the shadow of actual substantiative discussion or serving as a thoughtful critique. now it's just been lazily blown up and jammed everywhere to the point where the largest AC forum is filled with garbage. and it's not like there's a lack of AC material to talk seriously about!

For sure! I’ve always found the #Cake remix underrated/overlooked as it’s basically its own Avey track. Always wish that got an official release outside of their YouTube channel.

Oh that's really cool; Ishmael says "did you do an Avey Tare (show) in Seattle?" and when Avey says he did three weeks ago, Ish goes "daamn I must've been out of town" and that's actually a show I was at!

To be fair a lot of craziness has happened the last few years lol...
Re: General The Animal Collective Talk (...cont'd)

Why is Man of Oil so popular on Spotify? It has more plays than tracks like Fireworks, FloriDada, and barely scrapes ahead of Summertime Clothes. It also surpasses all other MOTW tracks in plays by almost two orders of magnitude. Was it used in something popular?

A thought I had about that is maybe it's been on a lot of spotify curated playlists. It is a pretty accessible song. It's the 22nd most popular AC song on Apple Music. If it was the vice thing I'd expect similar placing on both services.

I would imagine that the folks interested in the Vice show would've also heard tracks like Summertime Clothes and Fireworks. The curated playlists is an interesting thought

True true
It may be a Harness Your Hopes by Pavement situation

This also makes me think about how King Bromeliad by Floating Points has 11 mil on Spotify, his most played track by far. It's damn good so I think it deserves it, but still
Nah I'm not fixing that quote

Thanks for that article. Really interesting read. I can see "Man of Oil" falling into that "sounds-similar-to" auto-play loop. I was looking up Blonde Redhead tracks for a playlist the other day and saw that "For the Damaged Coda" was super popular. It had 50 million more plays than their next most popular song. Later on I heard it on a few funny Tik Toks on IG. Its a strange world these days )
Pavement ist Rad!

EDIT: I pretty much see them dancing to every song from PW as they play it
