Very nice overall. It starts really poppy and upbeat and then slows down a bit starting with ferry lady, getting more and more left field a bit (kinda back half of daily routine vibes - spaced out?), until defense which makes defense feel like a reprise in the context (works much better on the album, really didn't like it as a single but I get the Cindy Lee hype as a marketing tool, even if I'm personally meh on her guitar work). First 5 songs is an all time run potentially. Also it's excellently produced. I hope deakin can continue making his own music, but man he's really blessing us already by helping out other people complete their visions
tdegenaro "is it more buoys or reaper? did you like it? is it more like panda or anco? can you beam it into my ears?"
This really puts buoys in perspective for me. It makes buoys feel like an outline or sketch of this one. Or in the reverse this is a "full band" set up of buoys. Wishing dolphin could get recorded like this. The instrumentation is very much in line with the past two group albums, maybe mostly minus the deakin contributions, but of course there is a lot of good synth work which I guess all the boys can provide in the group in equal measure (maybe depending on the project but still). Continues what I have been thinking of as their "typical rock" era with some more straightforward poppy writing with melodies us fans are gonna eat up. It's not really "dubby" in song structure form like tomboy and reaper are. I'd beam it if I could!
augustjsmith "Does it really feel like a "new chapter" for our boy? Or is it closer in line with previous work?"
I think it's a combo/progression from buoys and the last two group albums like I mentioned. Not totally radical, but forward looking. I mean it reminds me a bit of the spirit of the beehive album from 2021 (?) but maybe I'm just being impressionable, and minus the sound collage of spirit. It sounds like really really great indie rock.
Do we know which song is sinister grift on here? I didn't keep up with the pre release stuff on this album. Happy to provide specific details about that one. Or if you have a specific link to what everyone is referring to I can compare and contrast.
This felt like an intro to an article. Kind of disapointed
yeah pretty much no new information here lol. i wish these publications cross checked with the press releases and other interviews before asking a bunch of redundant questions.

i wonder if he will have the record at the merch stands for the upcoming shows. i feel like it would be silly not to from a financial standpoint.

Can absolutely admit that a lot of Noah's songs end up growing on me a lot. This one... this one is a dud unfortunately.
Can't believe it, probably my favourite from the Madrid performance and a clear standout from that London boot and the end result is auditory melatonin. No jauntiness, barely any guitar, some cool textures here and there but frankly the vocal effects are downright annoying. Worst of all the tempo is even slower than the Madrid version... I still am very excited for the Grift but this has given me cause for concern.
I rly hope you all find something to love about this. I'm gonna need a minute...
Not to be rude but this description got me very excited for it. I think polarizing panda bear can be the best panda bear

Not rude at all homie! I genuinely hope everyone likes it. It’s just not what I wanted from the song sadly. I wouldn’t even call it demoitis because it’s so far removed from what I was expecting it just threw me for a loop. Someone very lucky on the discord said it works better in the context of the album which I’m hoping is true… but for now it just sounds like an outtake that wasn’t even good enough for Time Skiffs lol

used a VPN but could only hear a 1:30 preview of the song... still, got a pretty good feel for the vibe...
lots more FX than i was expecting! i was expecting something so stripped down based on Josh's interview last year but this is the second song in a row with a lot more little sonic nuggets squirming around on the edges of the song. i'm already digging all those noises.
tempo change is definitely going to take some time to get used to, but this is why folks stay away from hearing the live versions first. the backing vocals from Rivka (?) are gorgeous, and the melody is undeniable.
i can see how this will fit just perfectly in the context of the songs surrounding it. nice stuff, can't wait to hear the whole thing, but i'm digging it.

wow, he ruined it (disclaimer: this woman in this post has not listened to the song yet, so should not be listened to) it sounds nothing like my beloved 2021 garage version that i would spark up to on my balcony (disclaimer: she mostly listened to demo 2, with token and religious bop, rather than demo 1)

If you wanna hear the snippet open iTunes on a desktop, scroll all the way to the bottom on the homepage and on the bottom right it’ll say United States (or wherever you live) click on that, select Australia, then search panda bear and the preview will be available on the album

its definitely more subdued than what I was expecting based on the live performance but I really like it, another little bop and the melody continues to be ear candy.

Been sitting with this one all day now... It's ok! Gets real nice and lush on the back end after that noisy freak out. Melody rocks of course and I dig Rivkas vox.
Thing is though, it's a synth main course with a guitar amouse-bouche which is what's really throwing me off... was hoping it be the other way around. The refrain 'what else can I do?' is also really jarring and upfront. And it should be like 10% faster lol. Listen to me, fucking spoilt child picking out the mushrooms from a beautiful strog. I should be grateful I'm getting fed! There really is no place in this fan club for opinions beyond reasonable doubt so I'm gonna let love in and say this will grow on me.

YA this one is fantastic, my favorite of the three singles so far.
50mg into this will be such a great transition

really great track, i dug the Madrid version too but I'm not missing anything from that version (I'm a bit more worried about Religious Bop tbh- the live version doesn't have the same high yelping which I loved from that song).
either way i think this might end up one of my favorite pb records
