thanks a ton pk. yeah I never would have pegged acid wash as a transitional track but that sounds like it could totally be a tomboy chord structure

no - those two trax were menna preceed that .....
that was the concept.......
.......reality ofcourse had a say too......
GR was gonna be short -8 or 9 trax originally.....domino & i were both VERY down for longer .
Noah was too once he saw the wider picture i think.....
such a sick bunch of songs . butcher is a big fave of mine too ....really sweet vibe

That would have been crazy. He already released new music from this era for over a year long period! I can't imagine an even longer range. Was the wider picture just more acclaim/sales for the record? a better record?

Glad you convinced Noah otherwise Petek. I revisited most of the AC discog this weekend and the Greaper era tracks just might be my favorite thing any of the guys have done. The music. The lyrics. The concept. The art. I love it all! Gonna be hard for anything to top this era for me.

gotta say, if there was just one more goodie from the pbvsgr era, i would prbly want a version of ctys with a studio version of the long, beat-less verse at the beginning (with the 'drop'...).... not that ctys isnt perfect. but i remember the intense feels that the video of austin psych fest vacuum gave me.... ( of course this is what the atp demo is for..)

i dug the short disc concept , but the reality ......?
......with all the sick tracks ? was more how could we
NOT !!
tropic wasnt gonna b on it....
nuff said ?
yo ramp
yeah - he was SUPER on fire......i can still smell the burning ......
its a tough one to top , but i'm sure he will....
I look at the nominees for record of the year & laugh ...
but i seen this fad booshee b4 a bunch .
when they start taking the '
business' outta the music business more records will be this good ....
computers were menna up the ante on the music scene ......
not what I've seen at all........just more people looking at computers & wasting time... imho
looking forward to the next phase ......let it r.i.p.

Man, I wonder which 8-9 songs Noah originally wanted. Alternately, I wonder what a double album with the EP tracks would be like.
I popped this album in last night. Pure joy.

of all of the songs i couldn't imagine NOT making the record, tropic takes the cake. it feels like the heart and soul of pbvsgr

Agreed. It seems pretty essential.
How baked was Noah when he considered not putting it on the album?

That is nuts.
Defining song of the era for me.
Thank you Petek for any and all input you had toward this part of the process. Short disc just wouldn't have been right

i'm guessing that when he wanted pbvsgr to be short it probably went along with the og idea he had of 90's rap inspired, fun songs. it would have been like the 8-9 really fast songs that he had (mr noah, jabba, no mans, faces in the crowd, crosswords, bbcm, boys latin, etc.). just a really short, fun pop record

it woulda been really weird to hear acid wash so early
i felt like not hearing it until i listened to the album the whole way through really increased its impact. made it feel a lot like a triumphant ending to everything that had come before it.

Me too. That describes exactly what I wanted going in to the LP, 8-10 trax, all str8 bangers
Really curious what Noah's alt track list would be like...

prbly something like atp set? minus tropic/maybe selfish perhaps?
idk tropic is beautiful and all but i think mr tchaikovsky may have ruined it for me going to the nutcrackr every xmas since i was a lad... plus as far as ballads go, the last thing on Swallow the Hollow that sounds kinda like a lullaby in a tim burton ost is as good as/would be as good as tropic if panda sang ovr it..

Last few pages of Painting With thread is proof
Granted, tons of good shit come out of sitting in front of computers, namely Sonics post which we'd otherwise have no access to

Cannot imagine Greaper without Tropic. In the top ten of Noah's best material. Usually, I prefer short records. Especially now that I have a child. It's hard to find time to digest a full length record and that's the way I listen to music. From front to back. I only listen to singles and skip tracks if I'm in the car. All of the songs are essential. I can imagine a shorter album with the absolute best but the way it was released is amazing.

I wonder how a double album would ave gone down? Considering the evolution of the songs it probably would have meant we wouldn't have gotten it until around the time the Crosswords EP dropped....
Really interesting to hear the demos too! THANKS Pete!! sounds like he really did do that 180 on his song writing process and employed the samples again. Robert Frost is so chill, can hear it slotting into the swallow' v easily.....
I've felt like there was two kinds of tracks in this era, sample-driven ones (crosswords, tropic,UTN) & melody-driven (acidwash, selfish) which he kinda reversed into a remix'd sound....?

Let's face it, this album was sensational, no filler, connected hard with the themes & process
...tho I'm quiet on the painting with thread I'm VERY keen for the progression, think the greaper will have a big influence.... Natural Selection sounds Greaper..... Pete???? Any clues to themes / process?
