Spoken word is best part of the album! Cringe culture is stupid

Yeah, feel like a huge theme of animal collective is to tap into the “magic” of life that is normally cringey to talk about

Putting this here and the live thread:

https://megaupload.nz/53D7e9Wemc/Avey_T ... _29_19_zip

I had the levels a little off for the first 6 and a half minutes so its a little distorted when Jeremy's drums kick in. Is that something that someone can fix? I have no idea how to do any of that stuff

Also concerning the upcoming AC stuff, I asked Brian about the Music Box stuff and if that’ll be on the new album and he said it’s all up in the air and that he hasn’t listened to it since the performance. Also asked Josh about his new songs that he’s played solo last year and he essentially said the same thing. That they’ll get recorded and used somewhere at some point. So sounds like it’s all going in one big pot when they get together this summer to write and that’s when they’ll decide what’s what

The music box set was pro shot and is def not lost. Willing to bet it will be released in some form. I'm wondering if they'll put it out as a separate visual album and work on the stuff they've been writing individually this summer for the new AC joint.

Seems like none of them have a solid plan yet but I am curious as to where the music box concert film will fit in.

They likely will have a plan but just not keen to reveal all until they see how it plays out.

I love this interview!

I live in Asheville, from here actually. I've been enamored with Avey specifically for over a decade. I'm tickled to death that he's moved here. It's amusing to see him talking about Asheville so much! Glad he's feeling grounded here. I really get that feel on this album.

Asheville is a really really tiny town. Hope I run into him someday. I'd never outright bother him but I'd love to get to tell him how much his music has meant to me. Has anyone ever run into him and how is he with that? I have so much respect for the man I'd hate to feel like a bother.

Well he’s very nice after a show. Definitely shy, was a little awkward talking to him because I don’t think either of us knew what to say to each other. It’s like I’m bringing the awkwardness and he’s awkward at handling it haha. Brian tho is really easy to talk to. Im just tripping over what I want to say and he’s very accommodating I guess you’d say. Josh is somewhere in between those 2 and I haven’t met Noah

Thank you for the info! He walked right past me at the Mothlight show on Thursday. He was smiling but had his head kinda down and was walking quickly-- def not the time lol. Also that was a killer show. Also he's a lot shorter than I thought he'd be.

Talked to him once and he shy and reserved but very nice. Noah tho, is super easy to talk to. Answered all the things I asked him, even some pretty detailed stuff about the, at the time, up coming release. He talked with me a long time and it felt like I was with a homie. I have great memories of the 2 convo I had with him.

listening to their music, you'd think the opposite is true, but I agree that avey is much more awkward than noah to talk to. In a totally endearing way, they're both obviously really kind humans. but noah is surprisingly conversational. both times i've met him, he's been surprisingly funny / chill / easy to talk to

I met Dave in an elevator ten years ago. I was working at my family's little hotel and I did the double-take of the century when this guy in a blue bucket hat walked up to me in the lobby and asked for more towels. I tried to hide my fanatic astonishment but failed and instead gushed over MPP (this was during the summer of '09 and the band was en route to a festival show nearby) and asked him a barrage of questions. "We're playing a couple new jams," I remember him saying, which I later learned were, of course, "What Would I Want? Sky" and "Bleed." And then we rode the elevator together to the linen closet in an awkward silence.

^ this is such a cute story, maybe the best one I've heard thus far, especially bc it reads like those 'embarrassing' crush stories I used to read as a pre-teen in cosmo magazine (I mean this in a kind and endearing way)

haha thx. The "cutest" part of the story is that I'm pretty sure Noah slept through their entire stay. I saw Dave, Brian, Reverend Green and Liz Harris (she was opening for them) come and go over the course of a couple days, but no Noah until the bus was pulling out and he stumbled out of the stairwell looking a little shell-shocked.

I have one gripe about Cows: the packaging! The CD sleeve feels like a promo single. It's paper thin, and there are hardly any liner notes. No booklet, nothing. I like the "sleeve-within-a-sleeve" mini-LP thing Domino did here, like with Down There, but DT was so much more substantial. For such a beautiful record (and I love the artwork, btw) the packaging just feels lacking, like Avey is some third-tier artist on their roster. Maybe he is, to them.

Does the LP have the same back cover as the CD? With "Cows On Hourglass Pond" hand-written text in blue and pink with the snippet of some painting on the left side that looks like hoop jewelry turned on its side?

I kind of miss jewel cases.
