if you want to talk about “AC songwriting” you need to specifically make an argument for the convergent evolution of panda and avey, because as far as I can tell they have completely different creative processes

if we're talking about the greater AC universe, which i was, I think Buoys is the best release since Down There,, specifically because I think panda's songwriting has stayed relatively the same quality but Avey's has become less tasteful for me AFTER Down There. Not sure why creative processes would be necessary to take into account. Even in terms of strictly AC releases, I prefer panda's few tunes on CHz and PW over Avey's majority

Eucalyptus was amazing, and as good as this album is, Eucalyptus still beats it. I think it's my favorite AC release at least within the last couple of years. Not a competition though, their output has been steadily great, including Deakin's album!

I wanna see eucalyptus vibes and buoys vibes become one on the next animal collective release. love them both. haven't spent enough time with sleep cycle to form an opinion on it.
also yeah, buoys is a total grower. the last 2 tracks are the only ones that haven't grown on me yet. ikidk is current fav. so many moments on this album that i look forward to.
(the live buoys had umph that the studio didn't retain, but it's still a killer track)

looooove home free, it’s weird cause it’s a pretty standard psych track but the lil hook he does is so good I want to cry each time

Every single song has grown on me even more. My favourite AC release since Down There. Did I think he still had this in him? Yes. But did I REALLY think he still had this in him? Yes, but you know what I mean. The previous two solo eras had some utterly incredible songs, I just think the recordings were way overproofed and came out overbaked. Nice with a cup of tea if you're a bit peckish but you wouldn't cut a hole in them, line the hole with cream cheese frosting and put your nob in the hole, which I would definitely do with Buoys.

Been listening all morning. Really feeling the production on this release. So Smooth and lots of space to move around. Dolphin to Crank into Token is such a great intro to the album. And I love the move from Master to Buoys as well <3

Could somebody crunchatize me? Just realized this freebirded and while I sort of wanted to wait for the official release, I feel this could make me into a happy Christmas boy.

It's made me go back to Homies and I appreciate that even more now in the wake of Buoys. Fantastic, focused release which also does a number of new things both vocally and in terms of the production and he's clearly already moved on. It definitely feels more attached to the previous era when compared to Buoys and I find that willingness to explore, get some distinct ideas recorded and then move onto new pastures really inspiring.

hate to break my silence to the press in such a way as a longtime lurker and also bending backwards to resist posting until this.. but this.. is important to a point. If anyone can please crunchitize me cap'n's.. I would love it, and my thanks in advance are abysmally deep in great gratitude. Thank you, for everything over the years.

Why won't Panda come to Salt Lake City and Denver?

I swear he just hits the same cities every leg of tour.

The more I listen to this, the moments that stick out for me that are kinda emotional/tear jerkers at this point are: “it’s been building all my life/a soft whisper for the last time” in Token, and the “though the difference is split/it’s only good things for you” hook in Master.
Both moments get me every time.
Master in particular really feels like a solid achievement. I’m actually kinda surprised it isn’t the closer on the album?

lol oops.
But anyway, the album is terrific. On first few listens, I though a few of the songs sound a little too similar, but that is less and less the case as I listen more. Inner Monologue is one of the best things any AC member has done in a while. Not sure what the synthy sound throughout is, but it almost has a reed-instrument kind of sound like a soprano sax playing a low note or something. I dig it.
Also I could listen to Master all day.

For real. I’ve lived in Colorado my whole life. The Midwinter show will be my tenth time seeing Panda solo. I’ve had to go to Austin, Chicago, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Los Angeles and New York. Just one show here would be enough.

PB posted a great meme on his twitter the day of the Buoys freebird, which I just noticed. I'm guessing it's meant to symbolize his "acceptance" of the freebird.
