Heh heh, yeah I can’t say a studio recording could improve the beauty of that one

Just now got around to listening to this remix EP for some reason, I actually like Geo and Panda's remixes a lot but Deakin's is kinda weak
But like others said, the whole EP is worth it just for the live version of PJ / Dr Aw One for J, love that version so much
Man Ms Secret is such a great song. "There's a crowd around my drink I am alone"
Whole album is jam packed with great songs, still feel so grateful that Avey decided to record and release them

The live EP song reminds me of my yesterdays listen/strum along to cemeteries from down there. Such sublime effect from the timing on both

Got the 12" in the mail today! The packaging is even less adventurous than Monkey Been to Burn Town lol but the music's great of course. Geologist's remix seems to be suited better to filling the room with sound rather than just being pumped into my skull via headphones, which is how I had been listening to it.
Once again, PJ/DR aw one for J live is totally brilliant

Agreed. That section is one of my favorite sections from any of there music. There's something really magical about his vocal double tracking, and the lyrics just drive the feeling home.

Wow. THATS what the lyric is?? fantastic.
Come to think of it, there is so many AC lyrics where I have absolutely no idea what they're saying...and that extends to solo projects too.. I probably know less than half of their lyrics, i guess that makes me a bad fan

I'm awful about lyrics too, not just AC but music in general. I don't think it makes you a bad fan. people relate to music in different ways, I've always just kinda focused on the sounds rather than the words, maybe some people focus more on the lyrics but there's no right or wrong way to listen
but yeah anytime I've actually put in the effort to look up some AC lyrics it's been worthwhile, it's a whole other aspect of the music to appreciate. Eucalyptus has a really nice booklet too, beautiful design

just listened to PJ for the first time in a while, love it so much. I couldn't stop and just had to let the rest of the record play on, such a beautiful album. Coral Lords, Sports in July and When You Left Me is such an amazing closing run of songs, I can't get over the atmospheres he creates on Coral Lords and Sports

been on a Eucalyptus and Tangerine Reef kick... meeting of Waters fits in well too.... love love love this psych folk lite-jazz side of dave's stuff, so fucking rich and yummily recorded. all kinds of instrumentation on Euc that I wouldn't expect in AC... all his LPs are so different and good

Been re-listening to this recently, this album is still somewhat of a mixed bag for me but oh my god Coral Lords is even better than I remember it being... definitely my fav on the album. The latter part of the song in particular, after the autoharp section, when it's just this very sparse arrangement of bass, samples, and violin drones is very special. It's just top tier Avey, it nails that sort of free floating quality where every instrument very judiciously shares it's space with another, there's no solid rhythm to tie things together but absolutely nothing feels out of place. Up there with Bees and Daffy Duck in this regard. Gotta say that while the whole second half of the album is pretty solid, Season High and Ms Secret are really only things I like quite as much on the first half. Jackson 5 comes close, but also sorta wish it had been a slasher flicks or AC song or something. It's too much of a jam to fit into the sleepy introspective feel of this album imo.

Ya 100% agreed about Coral Lords, 2nd half of the song is so so special. That free floating style is something that Avey and AC does like no one else and the way he does it in that song is incredible. I love the tension of the sustained notes in the horns (or strings? whatever it is) and the way the various sounds push and pull on one another. I also think the music evokes the heaviness of the subject matter in the monologue at the beginning, like the sense of scale and time

Nice points.
Damn though the first half is stacked. Melody Unfair and Lunches.
This is prob in my top 3 AC releases

Lunches are good, Melody Unfair never really clicked with me for some reason! It's very nice but doesn't really hit me the way some of the other songs do. Hope this changes.

Love Coral Lords for all reasons stated above
I love melody unfair too, but lunches seem weirdly goofy to me, kinda breaks the momentum which is a shame because Jackson 5 is good and DR Aw One for J and PJ are killer

The atmosphere on Coral Lords and other parts of this album reminds me of talk talk, spirit of eden, with how kind of open and free form they sound.

That was the second song he played during the Elsewhere show. We don't have a title for it so it's been jokingly called "Jimmy Neutron." From what we know about the Cows on Hourglass Pond tracklist, I don't think it's on the album, but it might be one of the songs on the bonus 10"

Best AC release this decade easily.
Feels like the most organic, whimsical, and spontaneous release of their oeuvre. Definitely more for the die-hard Avey/AC fans. I'm not at all surprised it almost never saw the light of day, that it took encouragement from Deakin to bring it out. Raw, heartfelt, and beyond anything else, free, not the marketable result of a process but a glorious oddity that seeped right out of Dave's soul.

easily my favorite AC related solo release at this point
de-throned person pitch for me very recently
all the outside contributions made these amazing songs come alive

Ditto to all this, this album is extremely special to me. 2nd half of Coral Lords is up there in the AC discog as one of the all-time greatest songs/moments

Interesting and great to see people love this one so much. I see it as something he needed to do to unblock whatever it was because everything he's touched since has been a return to what I love about pre-DT Dave and AC. I love the mysterious nature of it and the brooding emotional, pastoral vibe but I don't particularly like many of the songs and I find it quite boring. Some, like Roamer, I find irritating. As I say, I feel like he needed to make it but I much prefer what followed.

Glad to see so many positive responses. Stan I can see where you're coming from, the middle section I'd concede is a little bloated, maybe MAYBE he could've shaved off roamer, boat race, lunchpt1&2. I'm not always in the mood for this album, but when I am feeling it I am absolutely keyed in.

The album definitely runs long but looking at the tracklist I'm not sure if I could say that any of the songs don't belong on it. The album is an emotional investment but the payoff is huge.

the only one that doesn't really resonate for me is PJ, his vocals sound like he's singing at like 2 am and he's scared to wake his parents up...other than that, all jamz....

I think it was iko ovo who posted and said PJ vocals sound like Winnie the Pooh lmao. I still love it tho, the vocals are really affecting to me. PJ - In Pieces - Selection of a Place is like the emotional core of the album, always fucks me up
