These were recorded at Noah's old beach pad across the Targus from Lisboa .
He used to use the large subterranean garage at the house to record and also

Hence Miosiotis Garage .

i've looked it up and it is close to the name for the forget me not flower! : )

this is an incredibly compelling and splendiferous archival recording even on first listens; i will be listening to it until the very end just like the album and connected songs themselves; i think it's definitely not just me, many many of us will still be finding new appreciation of this particular songwriting period even when we are much older! :shobon: :o :D

Thank you to you and Noah for being excited about this recording and bringing it out at the perfect moment!

I really love how Greaper turned out. Especially Come to Your Senses, Faces in the Crowd and Tropic of Cancer. But damn the demo of Nadir just slays so hard. It almost(not almost) brings me to tears.

I'm sorry to be coarse but this is fucking unbelievable. So much better than I'd hoped or imagined. When we finally get to hear Jabba I'm going to go for a long walk by the sea.

Thanks, Pete.

these are rad, Petek. I'm imagining your reaction when you were sent the demos. Guessing it was something like "Holy shit, I can't wait to help work on this album".

should we now refer to what we were calling OG Faces as g-yeah?

yeah i'm sticking with Gyeah for now. some interesting titling in general, including an alternate spelling of popadam/papadum and what seems like pete's fondness for some of the original titles

thanks so much pete!

i went straight to principe real, always loved that version with the "mine mine mine"s
it would really be cool to know why he made some decisions to take things out on the final project

and those transitions are so sweet!

It'll stay OG Faces forever. I think that's the song getting the chop unfortunately

I'd have to guess its the new preakness that's getting the chop...

honestly even if new preak got the big ugly axe we still got the demo version

OG Faces is the second best tune of the whole set for me. Absolutely perfect beat and melody. Jabba still the greatest.

i wouldn't shed a tear if cosplay would be cut. as long as papadum, gyeah and jabba are on the EP i'll be pleased!

this rehearsal recording is so truly amazing. from papadum until mr noah it's just one banger after the other, so good!

You could probably make a double LP from all the versions of Preakness we've already had. They shoot horses, don't they?

This Preakness (hopefully won't get cut/at least released on cassette/sounds like it would be a perfect fit for the EP). It's a tiny morsel teased by the "Meeting The Reaper" minidoc.

These demos are such a revelation. Everything sounding like it's falling apart...so weird and so rough around the edges. More than anything however they're making me appreciate just how much work went in to the final product. As neat as it is to hear these demos they were all ultimately improved upon in so many ways by the time the LP came out, and in some cases even more so for the post studio live versions. I would say Principe Real is probably the only track where I prefer the original, though I can certainly appreciate all of its brand new bells and whistles as well.

The whole thing is really astounding to hear.

I'd say I prefer them to Noah's Tomboy mixes, which were very similar but improved upon enormously in the final Pete versions.

These are a pretty different beast, to my ears. Much more raw and textured, more jarring contrasts and maybe more rhythmically focused, where the studio versions are much more harmonically dense and rich. I almost get a Black Dice/Eric vibe from some of these.

It's so weird to hear this version of Crosswords. It became one of my all time favorite songs by Noah but this version is so embryonic. Why is he trying to hide his vocals so much?

Basically all of them mask his vocals, and that's what he did originally with TB too. I must go back to his original PP single mixes to check them too.

As an aside, I love this version of Crosswords and Ms. Pacman, so rough and riddimical.

You'll dig the new EP then.....
.....i told u there were extra treats ....

The lyrics were new & most singers dont easily take to upfront vocals ....
Its shyness of a sort ...,
But its normal on early versions .
.....The confidence comes from a surrounding of attendants ....
.....it reminds me of Churchill's aphorism obtusely reffering to the Enigma & Colossus intel -
" truth is so precious in wartime, that it should always be attended by a bodyguard of lies "
I feel vocals are kinda like that......,and the attendant tricks..... Glad these r hitting the spotz xpetek

pete i've meant to ask you to pass along to the coat wearer himself how genius the playback speed changes are in tropic of cancer, having the sample speed drop by ~12% to get the chord changes for "can't come back" etc. it's a very turntablist technique and i've been impressed by it since first hearing it two years (!) ago

^agreed. it's especially cool considering that the octatrack is easily capable of pitch shifting without timestretching, but by slowing down the samples those lyrics are given that extra weight and it works so well. one of those details that are easy to miss

i could be wrong but i feel like of the four unreleased songs that we are aware of, papadum seems to me like the most likely to get dropped? i say that because we've heard snippets of studio versions of the other three at one time or another (i remember the "emoooootion" part of gyeah/og faces in that first mix noah did), but not papadum yet.
