So where can one find these MPP boots? As a newer Anco fan (3ish years) I'm curious.

If GR taught me anything it's that the live shows and the record are two TOTALLY different concepts

yeah i was surprised he'd give us the atp rehearsals before the EP drops, plus i think it'd be kinda cool if the era started with the atp boot and ended with the atp rehearsal recordings, bringing it full circle

It's taking a while bc Panda is getting Ben Allen to mix the recordings first

Can anyone explain that vocal "formant" thing SB was talking about? In regards to the Cheap Treat remix?
Also I'm being patient for the ATP recording while foaming at the mouth. It's getting distracting

but no big, I'm amazed it's actually a thing

he pretty much edited the vocals the same way one might autotune a vocal clip, but more nuanced. So pb pitched it up but also tweaked the frequencies the voice resonates in to be more womanlike. I think a woman's voice doesn't have as much chesty bass resonance as a man's

yeah from what I can tell the "formant" is the tone/timbre of someone's/something's voice
if you speed up a recording it changes the pitch AND the formant, so it's higher and also sounds chipmunky (if you're speeding/pitching up a voice recording)
but there are tools you can use to change just one (pitch or formant). I have something on my laptop I like that makes your voice lower but doesn't give it that "obviously pitched-shifted voice" sound you hear in Southern hip hop or some tracks by The Knife like One Hit or whatever.

Wikipedia says "an acoustic resonance of the human vocal tract"
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formant
So yeah, basically what Hashman said. When u pitch up a vocal, that resonance also gets shifted up, hence "chipmunky" sound

isn't formant shifting responsible for the vox in diane young too?

Thanks for the explanations about formants guys, makes total sense now. I actually had a hunch that was what he meant but I didn't realize all the science behind it.
Your posts rock too, Nat. Thanks for the insight. I think the idea of a song surrounding you like a blanket sounds like something PB might be into. You've got some cool stuff

The best analogy of formants is simple band pass filters - like a wah pedal .
Humans have three vocal formants - equivalent to 3 band pass filters or wha 's all modulated
seperately , but in speech at least , sympathetically .
Here's a clip Thomas Bang alter showed me that we had some good laughs with in the sessions...
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5hyI_dM5cGo
birds have only one formant . their version of the larynx is called the syrinx - and its syringe
like action can be easily replicated in toys .
We used a little wooden song bird call a bunch on GR .
Including as a bass drum underpin - a sort of short smack made by twisting the wood very quickly .
Heres a youtube demo of an amateur performance of its basic sounds , though dozens of differant
types of birdcalls are also achievable by any good mimic .
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=HhhJkvLMIjQ
Hang5 on the Lisbon atp rehearsal . I very much doubt it'll be a problem ,
But i need to ask . Been dealing with mastering on the new stuff , and I know the AC is running
flat out in LA , so ....
all good things .......xpetek
