My brother, who hasn’t paid much attention to AC or AC-related projects since MPP, loves Cows, which basically confirms my suspicion that this is the best AC record since Down There. If this isn’t “the magic” I don’t know what is!

my sweet, patient girlfriend has spent literal years listening to me babbling about AC and they never fully clicked for her until this record which she has not stopped listening to since release. it's got some magic dust on it.

i agree about the magic dust. this album is very special, and especially rewarding for us die-hards.

i think the criticisms are founded in Avey/an ac member not doing their usual crazy change of style or sound. in terms of ac, cows is tame. think of the difference of mpp and chz, then chz and pw. even eucalyptus is lengths different than down there. buoys is lengths different than pbmgr. there is an expectation to surprise the listener and go for something completely different. i think we can probably expect it from the next ac release

that being said, i think cows is an incredibly strong output. it doesnt bother me at all that the album sounds more familiar than other recent releases. while i love how rewarding it was when i finally "got" buoys, there was something comforting about cows. i mostly disagree with the criticisms but totally understand them.

still mourning the "is it saturday? do we have to play?" part of satudays and the frantic/urgent nature of the wordless vocal parts of that song from the boots. but loving this album overall. also totally agree with preakness about the album having a comforting nature even though it doesn't traverse a whole lot of new ground. long story short album goes

interesting quote from that about their AC plans for 2019:

"We’ve got Desert Daze coming up at the end of the year, and we’re keeping that in mind in terms of songs that we’re gonna need to start playing live. But songs that we want to record—sometimes for us, that can be two different things."

haha this is the theory dud proposed. it's totally just speculation, we don't have any concrete info about what they're going to do, but fwiw they do seem to have enough material for 2 albums

crazy idea: two AC albums in the works either back to back or concurrently?

you've got

1. geo saying they are planning to work on a new album based on the music box set

2. panda and avey both playing new music and saying that they could end up on AC releases

3. these new panda and avey jams don't seem to vibe with the music box set, yet sound like they could go well together

maybe they'll record the music box set, then work on another album based on the more recently performed tracks? record one, write and rehearse the other, tour a combination of the two? there was some overlap where panda was working on buoys and homies at the same time. two different sounds. maybe the trio records the music box set early summer, then panda joins and they work on the second one? would be pretty sick

fun to speculate

I'm happy this album exists. It's good. I could do without the spoken word ending on Goodside though, and the "robot bus stop" lyric kinda makes me cringe for no reason i can point my finger to.

Some killer catchy songwriting in here for sure though, and better than Buoys, which only had a few standout tracks to me

Oh really? How do you know? I thought it should've been airport. The KC Yours lyrics are maybe my only big gripe with the album. OG lyrics and it would've been one of my top 3 jams ever

the whole song is about robots... why would it be "roadblock bus stop"? I hear "robot" very clearly and it also makes me cringe

i don't know for sure that's why i made sure to say 'apparently,' but someone on facebook said as much. when i listen really closely i hear it too, and i know theres no official lyrics out there but when you google the lyrics it says that too. i could be crazy. i'll also concede that when you google the lyrics a lot of them are wrong. who knows

Yeah idk, every time I listen to it I hear a clear "block" sound. We really need official lyrics for this.

TRUUUUEE I wish

ok just listened again and the final time he says it right before the song ends without all the percussion and other sounds it definitely sounds like "roadblock"!

but it has to be robot bus stop. KC (the robot) is getting dropped off there, so it's seemingly designated for robot passengers = the robot bus stop (I guess robots are segregated in this song's world, sadly)

Even though Avey has discussed the robot theme of this song a bit, I interpret the context of the robot as someone who is emotionally distant/disconnected with reality.

I've also over analyzed the line "Another lime or lemon" from KC. When I hear this lyric, my mind goes to relationships and having to choose which type to pursue: a lime, sour and perhaps a little more complex/challenging or lemon, sweet and summery (as described in Nostalgia in Lemonade) and perhaps a little less complicated/easier. Likely, these two songs aren't connected in this manner, but I just noticed the theme on lemons and got stuck on this thought.

someone who uploads lyrics to the usual websites interpreted it as roadblock but they also have ????s where they couldn't figure out what Avey was saying so i take that with a grain of salt

'dropped off at the robot bus stop' is one of my fav lines on the album but i'm also like 90% sure he's actually saying roadblock
kinda agree about the spoken word stuff at the end of goodside though.....weird vague existential joke-thing is a lil cheesy even for avey hah

yeah maybe my favorite part of the song honestly, i always love the little spoken word interludes he and the other guys include in their songs and that one is definitely up there with my favorites

i think my favorite has gotta be oliver twist tho...he saw what- he would look in the rock and see what was in there, and he- i guess that day he saw a skull..ONE OF HIS DARK DAYS pocket...down there has so many good ones. also was listening to down there recently and just realized, i think the whole 'do you know how to get to the cemetery over on...sure step into my boat here' bit is just dave and josh, dunno if this was pointed out before but since listening to the dudes speak in interviews that just clicked for me

but i digress...

I can’t pick a favorite song. The human microdose strikes again. The blast of feedback at the end is Avey exploding out of three-dimensional reality into hyperspace. So glad he didn’t go with Cows On a Frozen Lake.
