I was at the dentist last week and whatever they were using with the piercing, high pitch sound was REALLY similar to some of the effects from their early stuff (Spirit They've Vanished, Essplode etc).
I was just instantly reminded of it, it made me laugh.

Ex: "YEW STILL SICK BRUH? Peace, luv *~{[D3Ak]}~*"

Someone who was on CA at the time would explain it better but they did post here for a few years before leaving due to "bad vibes" I believe. Apparently there was a subforum to ask them questions as well.

They all had usernames on the earlier boards and posted in the "ask the band" subforum. They offered a lot of insight into songs, performing, the band in general, etc.Someone has some of their posts saved because the rerz site is gone forever (you used to be able to find them on the google cache but I think that's gone too). They also came back once in a while on CA3. Dave messaged someone to give us the secret presale password for the 2009 Bowery Ballroom show. Josh also popped on once to call out the negativity on the board. On CA4 they had the "AC" account that they used to just post big announcements that were usually found on facebook or twitter (Brian was behind all of that).

the fact that they left because of bad vibes makes me mad at the people who were here at that time

That mad feeling is why the band doesn't post here any more.

Just listened to all their albums for the first time in years. They had something truly magical, once in a lifetime, but they managed to make it last for two albums. All of their stuff is great but Sung Tongs and Feels make me feel something more special and secret than anything I can put into words.

Sung Tongs is the genesis of the golden era of AC ('03-'10)

CHz is the first album in the new cycle

I'm kind of against having the whole golden age thing because I don't think they've weakened at all but I definitely agree with the new cycle part.

My vote is Spirit, hate to disagree, but they're never will be anything even remotely closely sounding to that ever in the history of the rest of the world !

If there was a golden era, I'd say it was 00-05.

Just my personal favorite "era" of AC music.

Pretty much makes sense. Damn I WOULD KILL A n**** to see more material from '01 and '02. IF you have seen this http://animalcollective.wikia.com/wiki/ ... Tour_Dates, they have played quite a select variety of shows those years. Whoever has the damn footy, and I know someone does, just do all us fiends a favor and release this sunken treasure. Much appreciated :milhouse:

Seriously though, Spirit - Feels was released, and there was a TON of GREAT live recordings.
All in 2000-2005.

and i think anyone willing to argue that 03/05 w.e (sungtongs) to 09 ISN'T a golden era simply are not understanding the statement. in terms of growth, a truer statement has never been made  def like the new cycle sentiment :thisdog:

Spirit to HCTI era is the experimental phase. Finding sounds. Discovering the language and design of the music. The structures are more abstract. The melodies are more obscure. At this point, I would call them a "noise band" (Spirit is not really noise but has elements and Campfire isn't noise but an argument could be made that they were using acoustics in a noisey way). The peak of this era ends with Here Comes the Indian. That album achieves everything they were building on through the early years of the band.

Sung Tongs to ODDSAC era is the golden age. They had at this point developed a foundation but had yet to find a identity. Sung Tongs is the break through when they truly became masters of their craft. When they set out to become song writers. Anyone can improvise. But to write brilliant songs takes a lot of luck and a bit of genius. The stars aligned. During this period, they stayed true to their experimental roots by branching out into different genres and switching instruments from album to album. The focus became more about melody and words as opposed to a physical exploration of sound. This era ends with ODDAC: a culmination of all previous genres they had worked within. The visual album has electronic music, acoustic ballads, noise collages, etc.

CHz is the beginning of this new age. It's hard to say what will come next, but I predict this period will be much darker and possibly based more in traditional rock band formations. But with AC, it's never safe to assume. Anything could happen...
