Crowd was better, band seemed more energetic, and the setlist was SO GOOD. Someone will post the full thing but they basically played everything they didn't play last night. Natural selection, hocus pocus, summing, gnip gnop, jimmy Mack. Summing was so good. Floridada ended the main set and sounded better than yesterday. Encore was bees, lying in the grass, and Alvin. There was an audience mic for this one so hopefully that means live recording! Until then we'll have nyc taper!

They had trouble getting a rhythm tonight for the first 3-4 songs (Blame Natural Selection) but once Burglars hit they were on their way. Loch Raven was outta control. Vibes were perfect for almost the entire middle 40 minutes of the set. Everyone loved Daily Routine of course. It was fantastic.

Bees is not a good song to start the encore with. Alvin Row worked.

I'm excited to see how things progress from here. This is an incredible record. The vocals were really bouncing beautifully on Summing and Lying in the Grass.

I feel like they usually start with a slower jam for encores and I'm just amped that Bees is back in rotation. I havent seen very many feels songs live (loch raven, dystw, tpb) so i can't wait to hear it.

Where in the set would you have placed bees?

Yeah, it was crazy on the floor but the recording came out stellar. People were into the music, so no complaints. No random yapping which is great.
Its mixed and tracked. I'll have a few songs on soundcloud later today. Full set goes up on nyctaper.com by Monday at the latest.

the entire show was a highlight. still cannot believe that happened. nothing couldve prepared me for that version of loch raven man....nothing. when panda started singing ï will not give up on you" i was fking sobbing. my boyfriend and I's song is golden gal....which im sure ive mentioned b4 lolol.....BUT IT WAS ENTRANCING AND WE MADE OUT AND I AM YOUNG BABY!!! it was so beautiful. all of them sang at once. kinda wish they threw in the coke sample lol. but i digress. they had "woman? no. flytrap". when Daily Routine came on i screamed very loud into my friends ear and same for The Bees. sorry friend! i explained to him that it's off the fking chain hook that they played THE BEES!!!! THE FKN BEES!

this sounds like a fan encore, LOL! The Bees - Lying In The Grass - Alvin Row. Totally cant believe they played that man. ALVIN MOTHERFUCKIN ROW. it's 2016 man, when he started shouting ALVIN ROW i was BLOWN OUT OF THE FKN MIND. like when neutral milk hotel played Ferris Wheel on Fire and i felt like I left my body. live moment of the decade...WHEN I SAYY BYEEEE...YOU SAY BYEEE.. DEAR ALVIN!! BLAMP BLAMP BLAMP BLAMP!! SHOUT OUT TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO KNEW THAT PART AND WERE LOSING THEIR SHIT WITH ME. too many AnCo fans LOL, i was blown away they played alvin row since i stayed away from most live setlists b4. the new songs sounded awesome also. floridada was entrancing. i could talk for hours about this shit. best live show ive been to...im glad i saw them play brosport and peacebone like 3 years ago now lol...so crazy. i love the animal collective

His vocals were really next level for Loch Raven and Daily Routine in Boston on Monday night. It's great to see how confident he's become in his voice and just how much it's developed over the years.

Hey guys! I've had different forum names since the strawberry jam freebird in 07, but this is my first post from my new account... I'll make an avatar for myself on photoshop later but enough irrelevant rambling...

Dance Avey Dance hit the nail on the head in fact beyond the head, the energy and songs from night two were so much better.

Those were my ninth and tenth shows, the first being the grand ballroom Merriweather Post Pavilion show. I wish I saw them with my friend at the SouthStreet Seaport (The Doggy opener show) but I'm not gonna pretend I was at a show prior to Grand Ballroom

Gnip Gnop seems like it's gonna be one of THE BEST of the Painting With era from what the live performance was like and for the life of me I don't remember hounds. Highlights were Avey Screams in Loch Raven, the GEOLOGIST sounds (I assume it was either he or panda from who I could see moving switches) during the bees which sounded like fire crackers or live jumper cables touching together. I cried during daily routine the second night, and that's coming from a staunch Avey fan.

Obviously Alvin Row was awesome and better the second night as encore closer, I nearly slammed on peoples' toes as the climax with the ride/crash cymbal noises came. But from painting with my highlights were The Burglars which is my favorite song on the album (as of now) Lying In The Grass, FloriDada, Summing The Wretch, Golden Gal, and On Delay. I walked in late night one so missed spilling guts which is another favorite so I was a sad panda.

ALSO vertical was fun but WOW is Hocus Pocus a fun live song. JESUS that whole second night like Dance Avey Dance said, it was a doozy.

If you were there or read the Brooklyn Vegan Night 1 article, I was the asshole in the Golden (gal) Tutu wth the glam makeup, vampire teeth, cowboy hat, and I had a burglar mask and a bandana that I would put over my face during burglars.

Ya boy came prepared. So glad to be posting here again. I've lurked in my absence and seen a lot of negative shit and just general wasteful posting (I guess I'm a hypocrite) and would like to see this forum go back to being full of the awesomeness that it was when I was still unable to buy cigarettes (today I am 24). LOVE YOU GUYS love NEW YORK ("don't go to upstate New York) I LOVE THIS BAND THESE SHOWS AND THIS SITE. Maybe the best animal collective show I've seen (hard to say considering 2009 had all the best performances, peaks of their love career) but in any event this shit was bananaz

OH AND LAST THING

I talked to this kid Kirk (who looked very similar to Kirk from the mighty boosh) his Dad because he looked nervous. I asked if it was his first Animal Collective show and he said it was his first concert. He couldn't have been much older than Twelve. We got to talking about music and he asked me what to expect from the set and so on and so forth and I MADE SURE to tell him that this show would be the show of his life, not scary at all like ODDSAC or TTG (actually my favorite stuff by them but...). We again had a brief discussion about electronic music, he's getting his feet wet with Aphex Twin and I told him to look up Black Moth Super Rainbow, The Books, and Akron/Family. His dad was super chill and stoked on what I was trying to do for his kid. I mean I was super jealous as my first concert also at his age was Blues Traveler (still an awesome show but no where near comparable to Aninal Collective).

I left Kirk and his Dad with one last message, "don't breathe the air". His dad was quite amused at that and thanked me very sternly and cordial, and I explained that I didn't get "contact, but it gets hazy"

I'm sober myself now that I've done just about every drug and taken most of them for the first time at Animal Collective, I don't condescend on those who still use but I didn't know how the kid would react to a contact high. I explained this to his father, Ted (no not Bundy) and he understood.

SORRY FOR THE LONGEST POST EVER but this two night show marathon really righted a lot of previous wrongdoings I felt the world had thrown at me, and especially that last part about Kirk I was floored from a psychological standpoint to see someone so young and sober and normal looking at an animal collective show. And here I am (night 2) in my Bowler Derby, golden tutu, burglar mask with bandana, and glammed out makeup.

I hope everyone had fun
And if you missed it get tickets to the Starland Ballroom show. That place holds many a positive memory for me as I saw my favorite band previous to animal collective, Streetlight Manifesto, there a bunch of times.

One last time sorry my post is so long and weird and random like me, but I just woke up and have to get ready for my college class Computer and Electronic Music ;) my project due today sounds kinda like Mr. Fingers. Over the past couple of years I've been working on solo stuff (I used to be in a band) and I actually had to skip out on class Tuesday to hop the train. Therefore the significance other than shameful plugging and self promotion, is that I'm fucking loaded up on coffee right now so I'm typing a small (hardly) Essay here.

Good Times Guys. It's great to be back on this forum and be posting about a new live Animal Collective performance of new material. Six to Eight months ago I thought this day would never come and the thought of new material and tour were the only things keeping me from jumping off the deep end. Always Good Times...

Agreed, Maromi. I had goosebumps for both Loch Raven and Daily Routine - he was nailing every note and was just stellar. His voice has really grown to be this strong, amazing force - just wow.

ps- I *think* I'm the one that hung out with you and your wife after and met him at 3S and then bumped into you at Boston. 8-) Now here. Such a small world.
