just listened to boys latin and robert frost. Both sound awesome dudes, I am so excited for the final product! I liked how the vox on the robert frost one were in a different rhythm. The beat drop in the boys latin cover was sick too.

i'm about 70% finished with this side of paradise. the only things missing are proper vocals and a tight mix.

Ah I'm kinda behind on my Mr. Noah cover, if anyone else wants to give that one a try they can certainly go ahead.

I originally started Popadam, but it looks like that one is going to get made. I'd love switch to Mr Noah though, starting right now!

Nice job on Jabberwocky Scooter! Your cover grooves really nicely. I would love to record vocals, although cloud909 already took up your offer.

Oh and cloud, here's the lyrical collective page for Jabberwocky: http://lyricalcollective.wikispaces.com/Jabawaqy I don't know if that's from PK or if it's just by ear

I was inspired by Scooter to take a shot at a Jabberwocky cover. Somehow, it all kind of fell into place and now my cover is almost completely done. Hopefully will get it finished up this weekend...I'm pretty happy with how it's turning out.

I know I originally chose to do Tropic of Cancer, and hopefully I'll also get the chance to record that too (if not, we can just use vilent_sibrate's cover). And we don't have to use my version of Jabberwocky, it's just for fun.

Finished up my cover of Jabberwocky (Jabawaqy?). A few sour vocal notes here and there, and I might tweak the mixing a bit more, but I'm pretty happy with it as of now.
[soundcloud]https://soundcloud.com/filipino-grigio/jabberwocky-panda-bear-cover[/soundcloud]

For the chords that repeat throughout the whole song, I sampled some big band horn stabs. The staccato buzzsaw thing that pops up every few bars is a sample from a Feels-era AC song. 2 million points to whoever can guess which song. (I applied a tremolo effect to the sample to get the staccato 16th notes).

Thanks guys! :) Also I'm sure it was obvious but I wasn't really trying to go anywhere new with my cover. Just tried to recreate the live version as well as I could, using the Warsaw performance as a benchmark

i've had jabberwocky/jabawaqy stuck in my head all week, which is frustrating when there's no studio version of the song to hear. so that cover really hit the spot. awesome.

Gonna try tackling either Garage or Nadir.

Point is I probably will get stuck/horribly mess it up.

But I guess we'll see!

btw everyone's covers have been amazing and I am intimidated

Damn, Victor that's amazing. Well done. The drums are really good, are they sampled? Sounds very full. Your voice is awesome man. Certainly puts my version to shame. I'll continue with it if Cloud still wants to do vocals though.

Thanks Scooter and others for the kind words! I don't like the sound of my voice most of the time but I'm glad you guys like it. The drums are sampled from this Beatles deep cut, right at the beginning:
Oh and Scooter, I didn't mean to steal your thunder—I'd totally love to hear yours more fleshed out and with vocals.

another awesome cover! if we keep the bar this high our cover album will be the bees knees :metal

my guess for the AC sample would be the noise at the end of fickle cycle?

Is there a stigma against using built in VSTs? I'm almost done with Butcher Baker but I'm just wondering.

Oh and you killed it Vic nice job

Thanks!

Nothing wrong with stock VSTs, I've found usable sounds in most DAWs I've used (though that's admittedly not many). All depends on the sound you're going for though

Also, anyone who hasn't heard Frumpkin's Sequential Circuits NEEDS to. His is totally different fro the original and it's super creative.

make the synths harsher, grime the whole thing up. also that brushy sound is way too loud.

I would probably echo jfw7 about harshening the track up a little bit more. I feel like for the synth to sound right is has to be kinda obnoxious.

You got the groove down though, the track feels really nice.

Awesome dude! Love the fractured take on a simple song. Was kinda hoping for that pitch shifted vocal to come back in for the lyric, but it doesn't really need it honestly
