I echo Roark's sentiment that I'll be happy with whatever they make. You can consistently trust the band to keep you on your toes.

I think we all agree with that though

Darn, we're already talking about a new AC Album even tho Panda's album hasn't been released yet! So excited!

I've been reading your predictions & I like some of 'em, but what if we get a new album reminiscent of "Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished" Wouldn't that be great?

To tell you the truth, I never gave a proper listen to that album until yesterday, and oh, boy! it is quite outstanding! I was so busy at the time I found out about AC with Strawberry Jam, Feels & Person Pitch that I didn't go that far into AC's Discography, but now that I did it, I'd be so pleased to listen to something like "Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished" I know that's unlikely, but who knows?...

I don't really mind what they do next, but I'd love for some actual bass guitar. It's like the one sound you never hear them do. Imagine the funkadelica!

I was just listening to Oddsac. I find it interesting that a few of the songs are probably MPP-era songs and weren't (?) performed live ever. It also wouldn't be produced by Ben Allen, so it's almost like a "what if" scenario. I noticed how cool a lot of the sounds are, and if they had extrapolated some of those ideas it would make for a great album. Not directly, but just in terms of feeling and production, and with that nice bass sound.

Yes but I doubt that will happen. The reason it worked for that era (Person Pitch/MPP) is because they had a similar setup and sound. Avey has stated that he's not really into electronic stuff right now. Deakin is deeking. Geo is probably game for whatever. Seems like the four of them together will take the opportunity to write TOGETHER and find a sound they all agree on in the same room.

After CHz, I want to hear the guys do something very stripped down. Just 4 instruments and vocals (and harmonies damnit!!). Picture the radio take of Wide Eyed with P-Bear on the drums. Avey back on guitar (maybe even some live electric acoustic stuff!), Deakin on bass (killed it on the live WWIW?S), Panda playing a full kit again (new and improved), and Geo on synths/samples.

Thank god they don't listen to you guys and just do what they want. A lot of bands go under for this reason. This is coming from someone who loves CHz though, keep that in mind. Stripped down is what I'm hoping for but dang the rest is way too specific and needy. I will be happy with what they make most likely. 10+ great albums isn't a bad precedent. They know what to do.

Good point on the Panda stuff though.

Too specific and needy? I was just sharing my ideas. Doesn't mean I expect the band to follow my orders or something. That's silly. I also love CHz (I made the thread!) and will be happy with whatever they put out. In fact, I would much prefer them to deliver something completely out of left field from my expectations.

It would be game changing if they used more bass guitar, and even though I know Avey hates it, maybe a little horn. Actually, how weird would it be if you heard like straight up orchestral stuff that they wrote, not sampled.

I think horns would be really out of place in an AC album.

I'm hoping for guitar-based distorted pop songs.

If you put horns on an AC album I'd have to imagine it'd sound a bit like Age of Adz

The intro of that song always reminds me of Year of the Monkey

Has anyone made an "I Want Heather to Be Well" mashup yet?

So like Centipede Hz/Feels/Sung Tongs/Strawberry Jam? :P

I personally hope they keep going for electronic instrumentation, but keep it more stripped down this time with a more serious tone as opposed to the playfulness on most of CHZ. Songwriting in the same vein of tunes like I Think I Can, New Town Burnout (though less busy), Bleed, and Gotham but with a different atmosphere/aesthetic.
I don't think it'd happen but it'd be my dream Animal Collective album :)

I think it'd be pissing funny if they went off the deep end with Star Wars-inspired high-concept albums. "This time we wanted to capture R2-D2 being stuck on Dagoba."

Actually I would be on board with that

Im waiting for an Animal Collective sequel to TTG more developed musical approach to all the sounds and ambience.

I think my biggest question is where are they going to write all the new material and what influence will it have on these new songs. Will they all meet up in Baltimore and write in Deak's Mom's barn again? Or will they all head out to LA and meet up with Avey since he lives there now?

Personally, I'm hoping for LA. This next LP could be their "west coast" album. I'm not totally discounting the "rap" direction everyone is talking about. Ideally, writing in this environment would yield results similar to the 2011 live version of Taste. Geo just dropping mad beats. I'm hoping for something more sampler based for sure. Realistically, Panda will probably use a lot of the same equipment he's using for his current solo set. Unless he has something in storage somewhere, there would be little use of lugging extra gear around on tour. It would be really sweet to see him playing a combination of drums and samplers, much like he did during the Merriweather era (and on Centipede Hz to a lesser extent). Deak's probably going to be playing guitars (although I'm also hoping for more Deak on bass) and a variety of samplers. Geo will be using samplers obviously. I'd say the biggest wild card here is Avey. He could be playing samplers, guitar, keys, drums, or any combination thereof.

Obviously this is all just speculation/my opinion. But keeping all that in mind, my ideal instrument lineup would be:
Avey: keys, guitar, vocals
Deak: bass, guitar, vocals
Geo: samplers
Panda: drums, samplers, vocals

If you want a quick link to Taste 2011. That'd be a pretty incredible direction for an album

Damn. At the end of that Taste they were going in to Honeycomb?? I had no idea that song has been around since '11.
