strings and woodwinds would separate this stuff from time skiffs and i think help make it more cohesive. they don't even have to be upfront in the mix, they can be reserved (like the violin on feels) and still help contribute to a very different atmosphere

Ok I feel like I can say now that a dream I've had for this material is for them to just go back to music box village and record it live. Bring back to musicians from the OG performance and just let it rip. Can we get someone to DM Deakin about this?

That would be cool but their llueve vox are pretty rough sometimes (not so much avey but deak and panda- probably also bc of their complicated parts on keys and drums this tour) so maybe id like that idea more if they did vocal overdubs

Plus I feel like there’s a certain magic and ethereal quality to their studio vocals

Record a studio album at Music Box Village. Doesn't have to necessarily be "live"

Those fucking samples in the last part of Magicians that sound partially like electric guitar bends, partially like animals howling are a true stroke of mad genius. Goosebump inducing. I like how you can see Brian triggering the samples in that drop of sun video. He truly went off for that part. Brian if you're reading this, you're a genius. the ending of Magicians is so incredible. Song is this huge slow burn build up but then eventually its a party song lol. Ending when geo is playing those sick guitar bend samples almost sounds VWish to me.

Magicians is amazing. I love the Americana-style breakdown so much. Hopefully when it comes back Panda adds more vocals throughout so it can have a huge 3-part harmony

Man I really fell in love with Magicians recently. Was glad to see it back but I was always so distracted by other music box songs I never really listened to it but now that it's back.

Man a lot say Magicians for opener but it could just as well be a closer. The ending verses and musically are very end credits. Could be a much happier ending for Skiffs 2 and the way it starts and build I could honestly see it following defeat too

Maybe Skiffs 2 is just structured around Genies-> Defeat -> Magicians

Would bloody love to see an album structured around Magicians and Defeat, then a separate one structured around the spacey/dubby tracks like Gem & I, Genie's and Broke Zodiac.

Used to think it was "where we get high under magnolias" on Magicians but it's definitely "where it gets hot under magnolias" and it's making me think about these specific magnolias in Baltimore near the Washington Monument

magicians is one of the best songs of this era, easily.

Magicians is like a Spirit-sized epic, a true beast of a song. Structurally reminds me of Spirit and Defeat. Magicians and Defeat are both monster-sized and emotionally huge. Love em.

Literally was just doing super hard math figuring out Defeat and Magicians alone are roughly a whole half hour.

So going by their normal 50ish min album length or less that still leaves 20 min of other jams which is honestly enough but yeah, def ends.up.being one of their longer ones

Kinda feel like Broke and Gem need to be a doubleside single or sumn

What if there is no Skiffs 2 and instead we get a Defeat/Magicians 12'' double single and a panda/deak (stride) heavy EP.

I mean the Defeat/Mag single would still be album sized but at end of day would technically be just two huge songs

this is a total predicament isn't it.

60-70 minutes of material... throw it all on one album or split it into a few releases? which songs get released first?

how does the band and ultimately how does the label want to market this material? i'm so thrown.

my guess is LP + EP... in the vein of 2009 when AC dropped MPP then FBK later in the year... FBK being a very healthy length for an EP (27 mins). i think we get a 25-minute EP in fall 2022 and another 45-50 minute LP in 2023.

this is pretty spot on actually. soul capturer and stride right aren't quite at the same level for me. but these 6 would make a flawless album. just be hard to sequence them effectively.

the new stride right is incredibly grandiose imo. probably one of the top 3 glow ups with we go back and broke zodiac

couldn't disagree more, only because it was a 10 back in 2019 as well. i love the old version, and i also love the new drum buildup to waltz version.

i mean it was great in 2019 but the addition of avey's harmonies, more lyrics, the higher melody chorus, more intensity, the spacey intro, etc. all brought it up for me. the last couple years i definitely considered it the most "normal" of the songs, but now it really stands out

only thing i kinda miss are panda's vocals and the outro (and even that might've just been bc of the girl's harmonies), but it's incredible even without those!

Just a heads up, I'm working on a Time Skiffs 2 comprised of Blast sessions. It'll be Magicians -> Gem and I -> Stride Rite -> Broke Zodiac -> Defeat -> Genie's Open. Been really in love with listening to them in this order so I wanted to put it together more efficiently. Will have it up later today hopefully
