Dabubs single handedly saved this week. Thank you... Can't believe we would otherwise have no idea of these songs.

Noah put up a 15 minute vid of the first part of his set. Looks like it's from practice. Not great quality (probably recorded on his phone) but still fun

Nice. Ends Meet is a tidy little jam. Could be a single. Reminds me of Mr. Noah, bouncy and fun

but its a sick recording, flows so nice, these songs really go together. should he just re-release Buoys, Token and Ariel again....? (forreal, maybe just finally record Ariel... its hardly Guys Eyes at all or, Guys Eyes is hardly it... and Avey kinda did a solo AND "band" version of Selection of a Place (or at least, one with Geo/the Amazon)
one hundred percent agree, this version of Ariel is incredible, really is a different beast, entirely different from guy Eyes. the new part he added is next level, really hope that's an indication that we might get an officially released version of it... At the very least, hope this era finally yields us a high quality panda bear live album, it's about time!

Danger Wank might be the best of the bunch. Woke up with its melody in my head like a coin left spinning on a table.

agreed, it feels like pb's mothlight. this performance of inner monologue reminds me a lot of the mothlight performance of cemeteries. both are stunning slow motion deconstructions of the originals
makes me really happy to see noah embracing that style of performing, really for the first time since the young prayer days. he's so good at it. hearing him play songs with that guitar tone and such sparse arrangements makes me feel like i'm hearing long lost songs from the early feels era

I made a ten hour loop of that new falsetto bit in Token. That chugging little guitar and the plodding beat plus that falsetto, sounds like he's saying 'yeah, so cool', that's my favourite PB moment since the first Sabbath boot. This is sound is the fucking great.

Happy I could share the experience with you all.
This was an unusual festival. About 45 minutes outside Madrid. I only went to the day Panda played. It was in a small town and the festival had several stages setup throughout. Pretty much took over the town. The stage had rows of chairs setup. You were not allowed to stand unless coming or going from your seat. For all the sets I caught there were hardly any people in the chairs by the stage. More folks back by the food vendors jamming out, but not a big crowd there either.
I got the sense almost no one knew who Panda Bear was. There were a few obvious fans seated around me.

what a unique set this is turning into, it reminds me of the homies desert daze set he played in 2017, so weird and mysterious. it must be humbling to play in that kinda environment if he thought the vibes were off considering he said he bombed in that tweet but perhaps he was just being facetious

Does anyone have an archive of this vid? I missed the tweet/this post about it and it looks like the youtube video was taken down too...

Yeah that desert daze set hit different. And we never heard any of those transitions again. Also the pitch shifting on vocals. Which makes me think the delay manipulation won't make the record after this set.. which is fine, I don't think the songs need it although it is cool.

hello,

i think the half-rack in PB's setup might be the Boss RRV-10 ...
Sonic Boom mentions it a few times (at least once?) and favorably in interviews from around PBVSGR and i could see it becoming a favorite of Noah's ...
(from:
https://www.keithmcmillen.com/blog/inte ... anda-bear/ )
We also took a choice selection of our own ‘weapons of choice’ including a Moog Voyager, an EMS Synthi AKS, a Fenix modular, and some favourite special effects like the Moog MuRF, some Earthquaker Devices harmonizer pedals, and different types of ambience processors- a Boss RRV-10 which I’ve used on and off since Spacemen 3, and the Boss Tera Echo- again, a new type of ambience processor that gives very squeezed sounding effects, kind of a special watery cross between a warped reverb and delay . In general we wanted to try to find new answers to old problems…

my feeling listening to how varied and dynamic the bend-y effect is (sometimes changing without PB touching anything) is that, maybe, it's a sequenced effect on the audio-in of the octatrack? i don't know those very well so i could be wrong but i can imagine it letting you automate a deep chorus at certain steps in a pattern ...

I had an octatrack for a few years and what you suggest is definitely possible to do with it. However, on the practice videos, no audio input is connected to the octatrack, only the main output is connected. Also, there is no cable connected to the midi input of the octatrack and panda definitely triggers the effect with a foot pedal. So I don't think he uses a midi foot controller but a self contained pedal. No idea what that could be though.
Also, since he barely touches his octatrack during the practice videos, I think he just uses it to play the pre-arranged back-up tracks for the songs.

yea, that's a good read ... especially because a lot of the heaviest bending happens when there's no (obvious) track going ... and seems pretty expressive / free ... hard to imagine it was sequenced / LFO chorus type bends that were determined in advance. probably is a foot pedal ... so the boss half-rack probably isn't the reverb one ...
i bet it's this one, then! modulating delay!

Yeah, definitely some of my favourite PB material in a long time. Nothing particularly revolutionary about it but great melodies and rhythms. I'm happy for him to plough this mid-tempo, less challenging, heartfelt furrow. Seems like his future.
