In that Music Radar interview he says he knows Dan Lopatin and has talked to him before. Neat

Also very cool to hear that he still uses the reverb on the SP-303

Hey Pete,

do you know what machine Noah is using in this picture?

Image

Also, did Noah use the octatracks at all in studio? or where they entirely just for live?

Ahhh. Sounds like its an Electron prototype of some sort. Bet Electron gives him a bunch of free stuff for talking about them so much. Thanks for the clue Pete!

The way I recorded it was pretty bad. It’s got an idiosyncratic quality to it that I like but it doesn’t feel like it meshes - when I try to do it it’s really noticeable that there’s new thing there and it doesn’t feel like it’s part of the wave of what’s happening now.” Not to worry: listening to Grim Reaper... it’s clear that what’s happening now is pretty special.

Noah's right (obviously), it'd be nice to hear Person Pitch stuff again but it would sound so out of place / awkward. Try slotting Take Pills or Comfy in Nautica between something like Crosswords and Butcher Baker... it doesn't work lol

it's interesting because it indicates how much the samples are essential contents of those tracks rather than just an arrangement behind the vocals. the tomboy tracks are adaptable to his new setup and style, but person pitch isn't. "idiosyncratic" is right

were any of those songs ever heard with different samples or anything? the early solo versions of daily routine and guys eyes were played first with drastically different backing tracks, but i'm not sure i've ever heard a person pitch song go any differently before, during, or after the release (except maybe that 2013 aveyless performance of comfy?)

i think he played a little different version of ponytail during the first part of the tomboy tour, he also played bros and comfy in nautica on the last part of the that tour with sonic adding some sounds....

Yeah the live ponytail performance is a good point. That song is sort of an oddball anyway

He could totally play Person Pitch material if he decided to recreate the songs in the context of PBVSGR. AC does that a lot for their re-workings (i.e. "Doggy").

my (and his?) point was that person pitch material is somehow different and unreworkable? like, bros isn't bros without being made up from those samples or whatever

Yeah, Person Pitch is a bit harder to recreate, I would say. If you look at a song like I'm Not, it's fairly simple: it's mostly that choral sample, drums, and vocals, with other random sound effects strewn throughout. PB could recreate that choral sample using a keyboard or another instrument or something, but it probably wouldn't have that same magic to it. Comfy might be even simpler to recreate, but it too might just not "work" if you tried to do so.

Obviously when AC reworks a song it often sounds completely different and has a whole different intended effect, but something about PP just makes it seem like it would be tough to rework. I feel like on Person Pitch, the samples are the songs, kinda. It's one of the reasons why I love the album though

But then again Song for Ariel is a Person Pitch-era jam and it got reworked as Guys Eyes. Idk. I'm just thinking out loud here

yeah + daily routine. but maybe they were only transformed upon moving to the full-band setting? there are so few examples of ac material being played solo before full-band (those two, think i can, and wide eyed?) that it's hard to guess what that process is like

I don´t think it´s complicated at all... sure you change the integrity of the song, but that´s what re-working material inherently does. It´s just a matter if Noah feels like morphing the essence of PP songs into the PBVSGR skin. The wild and ambient strumming of guitars in Doggy made the song, yet AC went and made something brand new and something sample based. I know Noah can take something sample based and transform it into instrumentation. They band basically did that with WWIWS in 2013. I think what Noah more so refers to is not just the actual timbre of PP songs but the spirit that orchestrated the sample aesthetic of PP that doesn´t mesh as well with the PBVSGR jams as Tomboy jams do. Which is fine, although in my personal opinion, that triology of albums is not only just that, but it´s cyclical. Comfy in Nautica would be so banging after Cosplay or Acid Wash! Think of him recreating that sample with his own voice and synths! :negative:

i think it's that the material is inextricably linked to those samples? like it would comparable to changing the lyrics and calling it the same song.

I'm very curious as to what Popadam sounds like now. It seems like such a wildcard. The ATP version seems very rough, it's probably evolved a bunch, but I feel like we've heard nothing of it since ATP (maybe there's a sneak peek we didn't notice? i did notice a few little bits and boops i didnt recognize in the new mini doc). Can't wait to see what it turns out like. Could be a banger

I wonder if he left the WAZZZUUUUUUUUUP part

I really really hope he keeps the wazzup part. It makes the song standout so much from his others material. It's a comedic sample and just makes the song so fun and odd

i think he said to someone that the wazzup part was gone because he didn't have a license to use...

boys latin seems like a track begging to be remixed. maybe the single will just have some remixes since it seems like sonic was suggesting the other songs arent near ready to go.

Yeah the PBVSGR 3LP was already labeled as the "deluxe edition". Maybe we will see a deluxe deluxe edition once the remainder of the songs are released?
