sweet groove and love the production, will need a few listens to digest lyrics and melody a little further. fragments of the vocal melody remind me of the woo! remix but overall doesn't have the urgency of that track. chorus is maybe his most straightforwardly chord forward thing ever?

kinda hate one listen takes but that's mine! I like it and feel it will grow. also that horn sounding lead instrument is cool

also re AI I don't hate Danny for using it, I'm sure he's found something interesting to do with it. but I do know that AI images and videos are like, completely and unavoidably shallow to me. really kind of ugly and horrifying in a way that is always separate from whatever they are depicting

again i find myself in this position where knowing in 2.5 hours i'll be able to hear a new panda bear song from a project i have been waiting four years to hear and i am instead rolling my eyes at ai discourse. whoever said on the last page it smacks of culture war is hitting the the nail directly on the head.

wake me up when i don'tneed a vpn to hear the new song so i too can pretend i am morally better than a musician i supposedly enjoy i guess

Jesus Christ no one is saying that lol. Only thing I'll add is that this is a point in time in late stage capitalism where labels/corporations/production companies etc. are seeing how much they can get away with. I'm not saying Danny is complicit or a part of that... of course he isn't, but a certain degree of scepticism needs to be upheld regardless. And diminishing all of this to "hurr durr muh culture war" is incredibly ignorant.

The new single reminds me a lot of Buoys, probably because of the acoustic guitar and the sort of bouncy rhythm.

the "hurr durr muh culture war" isn't me talking, grab a mirror, friend.

edit: the new song is so good i'm not even in a bad enough mood to be shitty anymore.

having heard the single, it's damn good. catchy and groovy. i agree with TD about this kinda being what i was hoping Buoys was gonna be

a lil disappointed this should be a time we're all hyped for new PB from an album we've been waiting 4 years for and instead everyone needs to give their opinion on AI, but i guess that's in line with discourse these days... folks are drawn more to talk about what they don't like than what they do.

AI is an existential threat to art and seeing an artist I love and respect use it is deeply disappointing you are right about that.

Dope song though.

You are all treasured homies with all very valid things to say. I don’t like to be a rude man so I’ll refrain from behaving condescendingly. Apologies.
I think this place does work better as a secluded grotto where we can discuss Noah Lennox bangers. Far away from the deluge of day to day existential dreariness. This is the last I will speak of all the dust in the air.

Love the dub on this one. Imagery I’m conjuring up is a ferry lady serving me a mai tai but the ferry is from Vancouver to Nanaimo and it’s a very overcast and windy day and I feel like I’ve seen this lady before in many of my dreams but I can’t quite be certain

that's a cool image! having taken that ferry countless times i can tap into that vibe while listening to the song too.

the horns on this song are so regal. great bassline. listening to this song a few times and uncovering the oodles of layers hiding in the corners here... the quacking duck, the crickets... i was under the impression from deakin's interview last year that there would only be 4 or 5 components to each of these songs - a real simple drums, bass, guitar, keys set-up, but he's added a lot more layers underneath here.

this is nice. extreeemmmely TS/IIN but in a way I don't mind. I always liked that PB's music felt so different than ac and wish he wouldve departed a bit more from the previous work. BUT its a great song and am happy to have it with us now. haven't watched the music video yet and don't really care to.

The squiggles are very PB to be sure but I'm surprised that this could be heard as a derivative of earlier work. The song structure develops in a way that's unique in Noah's catalog, and my god, the chord changes! The "I" in his music has come a long way since the Person Pitch days, too.

Here's the music video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g0uc3Ag2yXM

Everyone who got pre-mad about it being AI generated was right. With that said, I'm a fan of the general concept of the video.

Looks like Geologist was also part of this song.

As a defender of all things AC and PB, really can’t play DEFENSE for the use of AI art in the new music video. Really don’t see any value or reason for using it in this case, it adds literally nothing to the music video. Easily could have been made without it and avoided any sort of (valid) negative response from fans.

That being said, the song slaps, love the production and instrumentation. Lyrics are super personal which seems like most of SG will be

If I assume the best, maybe Danny is cash poor and can't afford actors and makeup, but I doubt it. He could afford all of that for Part of the Math, Buoys, and Edge of the Edge. I feel like he has the skill to at least eliminate the obvious AI blurriness but whatever.

I can't wait to hear what Avey contributed to the album. Apparently, there are two other songs that feature Avey and Deakin. Hopefully singing.

Fantastic track - exciting to see Deakin and Geo on the song too.

Hate the use of AI - pretty horrible ugly stuff. Can't imagine Geologist being too excited about it? He's so eco-minded.

Surprised again at the AI discussion... since when is using a tool the same thing as endorsing it? Is this not art? And for that matter, when does Danny not play with the uncanny? It's almost like some of y'all just need a bone to pick.

Cool to see that the trump is a "synth trumpet" and that Brian's accredited with "sounds" lolol

Pretty sure Danny also uses Getty/Shutterstock for a lot of his stuff. I pull from both for work and have stumbled upon source material in the past.

Edit: To center my discussion back to the music - theres a lot of cool stuff going on in the mix in of this song for sure. Around 2:45 - 3:10 is particularly psychedelic and layered so well. Really excellent production, they knocked it out of the park. It's a bummer it's been married to AI slop because this song is excellent.

The fact that it looks uncanny isn't the issue.

If there were anything in the art that could be read as a rejection or objection to AI, then that would be another discussion. But there isn't. It's just lazy and lame. It seems a lot like an endorsement to me - or, at the very least, a passive stance on using it in art.

I forgot where I read it, but I recently saw someone say:
"I have never before seen compelling evidence for the human soul until seeing art created without one"

I think its completely natural for human beings to have an immediate negative reaction to a program mimicking one of the only things that makes us human

I mean isn’t that like his entire artistic thesis—it’s meant to evoke those same emotions. I just am hard pressed to find a reason this feels different than alien dancing girl

Idk, maybe I’m just being contrarian. But I genuinely don’t get it. What’s the human touch in sequenced beats and triggered samples? There’s always a human at the wheel, I guess is what I’m saying. So, to me, I just don’t have the same visceral negative reaction to its use.

then he should do it himself! it's lazy, doesn't look as good as his other work, and bad for the environment.
