I'm feeling the same thing! just certain matters of taste difference. slasher flicks first was just a collection of all the avey directions i never vibed with personally, and then with PBVSGR, while still a fuckin banger of an album, just misses the mark for me on some of the decisions i would have hoped to have been made (that we still see shadows of in the live performance). no one makes music for any one person in particular, but i do feel the same as you!

i'm sorry to say this but I like Crosswords & Faces In the Crowd way more on this KCRW live performance than on the album, especially Faces in the Crowd, with the coming and going drums. but also that drop(sorry) in Crosswords YCCOM is also way better this way.they all have so much more space live.

Yep yep yep. There's a thread on this, but I love AC/PB/AT live, but the studio versions seem less appealing for me. That said, I still absolutely love this album.

Faces definitely sounds better with the abridged drum pattern. I dunno what happened with Crosswords. Seems to have been improved into single form. I'm guessing it'll be the final single release. It and its live counterpart have such drastically at-odds aesthetics. Studio sounds like bombastic sort-of power trip, while live it has this under-the-skin, unnerving quality to it. Probably because it's slower and the vocoder voice is sinister sounding.

Went to vacation vinyl to grab the deluxe but they hadn't even ordered it. They were listed as one of the stores carrying the free lithograph so I'd assumed they would (my bad), the owner is super awesome though and gave me what they'd been given by Domino (NOT the lithograph I don't think but a huge poster) and a promo copy of the CD for free! I'll post a pic of the poster once I'm home.

It's probably gonna be a while til they release Cosplay. Since the album just came out this week, Domino probably wants to wait before releasing anything else so as not to distract from the album.

Plus Sonic said that the remaining unreleased songs still needed to have some final mixing done. I can't remember the last time he said that but I think it was fairly recently

totally with you on this. love them both, but one of my favorite parts of the live crosswords was that slow burn quality it has and how you can just get lost in the instrumentals. The difference between the "stay there while i move, stay there while I improve" section really says it all. The former's got those soaring harmonies that hit you right in the gut and the latter's got that creeping feeling to it that kind of just makes your heart swell up. but like pete said, we're only ever gaining!

edit: would like to point out that crosswords remains my favorite song from this era. i just appreciate differently than i did before.

Cosplay and Jabba will own my soul. Of all the songs from this era left off the record, those two in particular seem like a big ? ....but I guess they didn't fit the narrative or flow so it's all gravy, baby.

Thanks for letting mentioning this. I went down to the record store and asked about the poster. They said I could have it after they take it down from the window. But the real score was finding MPP and Sung Tongs vinyl while I was there. $30 total for both. Super jazzed.

Right around Christmas. He also said he'd be going to the Alps to do it... gotta get some alpine lovin in there, amirite, sonic?

My favorite area of the Alps is right around the Innsbruck area of Austria. Beautiful city, and in the mountains surrounding it theres lots of random roads that just kind of wind up and around to nowhere in particular. I've never felt closer to nature than I did when I just drove randomly on those roads, getting out whenever I saw a spectacular sight

I'm listening to the Warsaw NY boot, what's the story with the beat being played for the first few minutes? is it just filler before he comes on stage?

If it's not happening for RSD, does that mean we've got over three months now til more goodies? I'm not being greedy in hope, just asking a practical question. I'm still loving this album.

PK--

Do you think we'll end up hearing any more demos like the Cosplay one you released in the Namouche (hope I got that right) mix?

Also I think it will be cool to hear the ATP HQ recording you've talked about since the songs were babies back then.

Finally, I wonder if Red Bull is going to end up releasing their recordings from the Brooklyn show finally now that the record is out...

Has anyone else noticed that the first "beast" in boys latin is slightly flat? I'm not normally one to point this stuff out, especially with AC, but i ALWAYS notice that, and I can't tell if it's just me or if it's really in the recording....

it sounds like it's sort of a tapespeed effect? like it kind of scoops up from flat. i hadn't noticed it before but it sounds intentional

it's not in the live versions either, assumedly because it would be too tricky to do live?
