We're getting old now
Babies are [for ??????]
Do you wanna [grace it?]
At the aging hearts [gone to this]
It'll take some getting used to
But the aging heart's still warm in bliss
Woke up to a new song
Yesterday’s still rule

our little chapter chorus is probably the cutest vocal (the way he says chap-terrrr) since when he says "to find" in on a highway

Until there is some better future cover for Tipped in Hugs/Dog Says Goodbye, I snapped this pic and have been using it as the artwork, thought I'd post it just in case others want something. It comes from the sleeve of the LP.
Loving the new album. Needs a few listens, but this has a more "classic" animal collective vibe to it than anything out of the past few years.

Love the bass in Eyes on Eyes, sounds like it could maybe be a vocal sample. Very soulful and groovy
Am I crazy or do the vocals in Mayan sound pitched up? Like he slowed the tape to record it then sped it up again. Goodside gives me that vibe too but not as much

I'm loving 99% of it and im bad at saying nice things, so....
The only part I really dont need is the speaker freakout at the beginning of Nostalgia in Lemonade...just messes with the flow in my opinion...too harsh outta nowhere, the way its mixed makes me feel like I'll always have to get up to turn the record down for that part
otherwise....this is a golden age after the breakup scare we've been sorta going through the past couple years...im really hoping this leads to full band songs in this vein when they reconvene...avey and noah up front with huge random stations of gear to bust out any era song....im ready for it!

Also chilly blue is awesome! Fair enough though an instrumental isn't getting much attention. It's so good!!! Love the squeaky sparkly synths, reminds me of TTG and oddsac

Yeah I’m usually one that finds interludes and random small instrumentals embedded in albums a bit pointless (although tbf this probably doesn’t apply to the clever AC boys) but Chilly Blue is great and plays a cool role in the album’s flow. The beautiful guitar overlaid with some scary noise. Parallels with Untitled, which someone already mentioned.

i honestly believe dog says goodbye closes the record.. there just wasn't enough room. it's so mellow and HORS_ does good on it's own - being a single - so it kind of stands out there.. tipped in hugs is like a bittersweet hooray and then dog says goodbye just slams you into oblivion. Not to say it's the actual closer, just in my mind I feel that way and that's where i find comfort in it.
Chilly Blue is incredible, classic AC nature - insane sounds, with calming lush guitars/music in the background. Quite like when it hurts bad enough it feels like this off PB's S/T..
I can't get enough of this record.. I also love you all

Holy hell this album is hitting all the right buttons for me right now. What's the Goodside? might be my fave song I have heard in a long time. Feels so 90's in all the weirdest and bestest ways. Like, I was listening to Savage Garden and then started listening to this and it made so much sense.
This album is so exciting!!! Also this plus new panda bear, sonically is so strange together, I have no idea what new animal collective is going to sound like now!!! Like what the hell guys. So cool.
I'm geeking hard right now. So glad I got my Desert Daze tickets.

I've only listened once but the album is glorious. Surprised how much of the Mothlight rave vibes carried over to the final album. Might have the best low end of any AC-related project. KC Yours has that Painting With propulsion that I love and overall it's more knotty and effect-heavy than I had anticipated. Love the insane vocal effects. Bonus tracks are good but I'm glad they remained separate. Hugs has Buoys vibes and I'm wondering if it was written while revisiting the acoustic guitar around the time of the Sung Tongs tour.
Still mourning the loss of all those amazing Mothlight songs. Hope they find a home on a future release.
Judging from the production of both this and Buoys I could see the next AC record getting real dancey (esp. if AC plays around with some of Avey's unused Mothlight songs this summer!). I haven't heard the Music Box stuff but I don't think that'll be the case. I'm just waiting for the boys to sprinkle some of that low end gold around and produce some straight-up rap tracks.

Still taking time to warm up to the studio Eyes on Eyes. I think it’d be love at first listen if I hadn’t heard the live version and interpreted it as this slick late night r&b track with some Avey quirks to it. And then the studio version shines a light over most of the darkness (which is actually a cool dynamic I feel he uses a lot on this record - a juxtaposition of light and dark elements at once) and also ends up a bit more sporadic.
Hopefully that made at least some sense lol! The direction I saw in the live version could’ve just been my interpretation.
Unrelated, but I see now why he put a band together for this tour. Several songs have both acoustic and electric guitar (or guitar and some sort of bass), so that’d make sense for Deakin to join as Avey’s primary guitar bandmate. And there are more traditional drums (or at least samples) on the record than at the previous shows, so Jeremy fits in there too. Even some of the more electronic beats would translate well with a live drum kit.

Dude, I think my top 6 would look exactly the same right now. It’s those last 4 that are less clear for me. Need to better familiarize myself with Eyes and Chapter, while Chilly Blue and Taken Boy (and possibly Chapter) are more contextual songs for me, which makes them harder to rank even though I do enjoy them.

Yeah, obviously hard to compare something like chilly blue to the rest since it's just a short instrumental, but as an instrumental "breather" sort of track I think it's incredibly strong, v evocative. Our little chapter and taken boy work extremely well as a pair, but there are some minor issues I have with each (the synth sounds in our little chapter are a lil too washy, taken boy needs more dynamic changes). But really it speaks to how special this album is when these are some of my only qualms with it.

I do have to agree with those who are saying how perfectly sequenced this album is. I remember it being mentioned in an interview that Geo and Avey tend to put the most thought into the tracklisting, and it really shows here.
Putting breather tracks before and after KC Yours was a great decision, and gives it more impact in context.
I get a bittersweet nostalgic feeling throughout the majority of the album, despite "nostalgia" literally being in one track's title. It's very comforting but makes me a little sad at the same time.

I was so ready for What's the Goodside to jam right into Doctor No/Baby's Not Home!
Also littlesonic flairs in Taken Boy remind me of the MPP live version of Chocolate Girl. It's all connected...

I was just typing up the same thing! Favorite Cows moments:
Dave’s kazoo mouth sounds in “Eyes”
“I’m driving in a snowy race” harmonies in “Lemonade”
“Completeness / drippin’ on a cake” in “Saturdays” (love everything about this song actually)
Distorted fast shredding at the end of “Chilly Blue”
“Dropped off at the robot bus stop” bit at the end of “K.C.” And the intro (reminds me of Greg Sage), plus “there needs to be roads / machine don’t break my heart” part
“Our Little Chapter” chorus into the coda
“What a thing to be cocky” (called king?) or whatever in “Mayan”
