Starting to get that crackling electricity excitement across my body that I always get before a new AC/AC-adjacent release. Cannot wait for this record!

2 months to go… the wait time between announcement and release without singles or anything is nuts, i guess Domino has some kinda strategy? I know it’s been discussed to death but it seems a bit silly how long it all takes… but weve been waiting what, like 6 years? So whats a few more months really

Domino does not like releasing music, nor does it like promoting music. id wager the ladder is their least favorite thing to do.

to people who are not us releasing anything in the two dead weeks at the bottom of the calendar would be a total fart. i hate domino and how they seem to run the lads, but the lads also seem to be riding along with domino so i guess it isn't my place to question how they are allowing themselves to be managed.

domino not dropping a single this or last week isn't poor promotion though. wait until franz ferdinand drops on 1/10 then we'll start seeing some panda bear.

fairly certain it's just his usual open major 6th tuning he's been using since tongs/buoys, but in D this time.

so D - A - D - F# - A - B

This tuning seems pretty spot on.

Domino sucks. I really do not see any sort of reason to release a single so far ahead of the album. That can't be good for the momentum/excitement. *sigh*

With AnCo world I always have this ambivalent feeling of being thrilled by the new form they take and simultaneously feel the urge to being attached to some of thing that I know and that makes me feel warm

Yeah Danny has been doing a lot of AI stuff lately. Not sure if hes training his own machine or something which is… less bad but I’m still less inclined to support on principle. I get why he’s doing it, he loves that body horror and unreality, but meh

I don't get why this was given the ok.
Creative projects that involve AI have been routinely reviled by online communities over the past year and that doesn't seem to be slowing down. Especially considering many ethical/environmental concerns that have been raised due to its use. Everyone involved in this MV (or whatever it is) should be well aware of that by now. I guess Domino is already terrible with AC album publicity regardless so maybe they don't give a shit.
Seriously the only mfs that seem to still get a kick out of AI art are Elon glazing techbros or deranged channers. Danny you've made some amazing shit but this ain't it. I'd much rather see the opportunity given to a small time artist who actually cares about what purpose they're consigning the fruit of their labour to.
I dunno. This certainly won't make waves like Late Night With The Devil or Tears for Fears did but people are going to be dissapointed for sure.
TLDR: AI art is ugly as fucque

not gonna lose my cool until danny using ai is confirmed. but if so, very sh tty and weird that panda & team would OK that. gonna be a distraction tomorrow and bring about some bad press.

Video artists have been experimenting with/using generative technology for decades. His use of "ai" in this context is not inherently unethical. We do not know Danny's workflow and automatically assuming anything nefarious is kind of a bummer considering Danny's longterm relationship with the band. Oddsac was 15 years ago.
Having said that I understand the visceral reaction a lot of people have toward AI generated images.

also, remember this?

"i think this is ai" is like jingling car keys in front of a baby. the discord and reddit are also crying about it.

new panda song, probably, somehow gets lost in all this...

kneejerk shitting on a longtime collaborator who I'm sure was given the okay by Noah himself without even seeing the video is insane, and I would hope that they would be confident enough in their art that they wouldn't worry about it being "okay" to random forum users lol. the album is literally called SINISTER GRIFT and Danny's whole schtick is making intentionally garish and unsettling stuff, this shouldn't be surprising to anyone regardless. if anything it'd be cool to see someone with actual talent try to make something with AI that isn't dogwater.

Three good takes. Looking forward to the single. Have never and will never give a shit about what's going on in the music videos tbh

I think the Julian Casablancas Voidz thing with the last album is a good example of AI misuse but nothing to convince me yet that this is. Tomorrow will tell

Love Danny. Love oddsac. Think all his panda videos/ tour visuals are some of my fav stuff ever. AI is still dogshit and using it is morally reprehensible and is leading us to the downfall of humanity. But I’ll wait and see!

i feel like a good chunk of the whinging about artists using AI is from non-artists which strikes me as funny. obviously here its different cause I don't think there's a single person on this message board without a cool creative project, but anytime the issue is on social media it's just nonstop eyerolls from me. i don't think Danny Perez is going to use AI in an artistically bankrupt way. most of the time it's such a non issue that feels vaguely culture war-y, like I'm supposed to hate it but honestly, why? i hate giant corporations training their models and profiting off the work of artists who don't have a say, but maybe I'm just hyper jaded when it feels like that's such a minimum expectation. like yes, each and every for-profit corporation is bad. ai writing is dogshit. but I don't have this instantaneous wretch to its use. idk, i don't have a problem if you hate it, i guess I'm just spouting thoughts into the void

idk, I just remember before it became a "thing" that some artists were using and training ai models in what I thought were cool ways, I think Holly Herndon was doing cool stuff with it that demonstrated that it doesn't have to be this horrible outrage
