I also think it's a cleaned up live performance, but would be totally fine if the album sounded raw like this.
I love it.

Get back here and chime in, PK! We're not done with you!

chris cantalini of gorilla vs bear, this message is for you!!!! If you want to exploit our forum and the gifts we bestow you must at least register, make one trash thread, one poll, and a million posts justifying your narrow opinions into facts before you can start posting about us on your silly blog. It's the Collected Animals-way. NOW GOOD DAY SIR!

was a member of several inceptions of CA under different user names so i guess i'm back...again...

it might have been the headache i had but i was not feeling the new song at all. i was interested in the vocals but the background sample was too heavy and redundant for my liking.

I think it's funny that this track (whatever it is) has that ridiculously long decay on the reverb that everyone criticized endlessly after Tomboy came out. Maybe i'm reading too far in to it, but if I had to take a guess it would be that Pete and Noah really don't care what other people think when it comes to the creative decisions behind the mixing board. In which case good for them.

Well yeah, it'd be pretty stupid to change things about your approach based on a few reviews and message board posts. Really like the effects on this one anyway even if it's a soundboard recording, kinda hope the studio version will be similar.

yeah the reverb really works well for this song imo. it'd be cool if the whole album had this slow, chilled out vibe :smoking:

i think that synth drone at the end could be a sample of a beaver and krause song called 'spaced'. you can hear it start at 3:12 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xKO3KAtDZ0

Pete...your patience for the loving obsessiveness of this board is beyond amazing. Thank you for everything you do. What a track listing.

What I mean to say is that i'm happy you two seem to keep on with what you enjoy, despite certain people complaining about certain things. Choice in effects being one of them. No matter how good a job you do. Words certainly can effect a person, yes, and it's with this in mind that I hope nothing but positivity keeps coming your way. This place loves ya! :shobon:

Guess I don't need q-tips cause this isn't live from a concert after all. I wonder if this demo was made before he started singing different lyrics at shows. If there is a version of this song on the album I wonder what changes will be made.

A finished studio version and demo aren't the same thing, though either aren't live obviously. No one was right :) If you listen to the Surfers Hymn demo from 2008 the vocals actually sound similar to Cosplay's (really distant, raw, etc.). And as Sonic said it was from before ATP which was the first time he played these songs live, before the "don't you wanna" change. I think I like the flow of "marijuana make my day" a bit more. Guess we'll see how he plays it/if he plays it in the next few weeks...

Yeah I was just kind of bugged that everyone was insisting it was live, like at a real show. I figured it wasn't a final studio version, but the mixing alone and levels of everything made it obvious that it probably wasn't at a concert.

I prefer marijuana make my day too, and I actually really liked how raw the vox are on this version. I also liked how instead of doing that eerie little melody at the end in falsetto/high oo'ing, he sang it in a more "normal" voice if that makes sense.
