The best part of this Hipster Runoff comic from page 1 is the fact that the photo is signed Avey Tare, not Dave. So perfect

any idea why noah eschews the typical in-ears for those (what seem to be) standard/consumer grade earbuds? and yea he looks old lol. it's weird these guys won't be considered on the cutting edge of experimental music pretty soon (if they aren't already)

I think one of the best things about AC and related solo projects is that they don't care if they're on the cutting edge of experimental music.
Obviously any musician who wants to retain a following has to remain relevant, but I think for all the members of AC it's been more about exploring every different avenue, sound-wise, regardless of whether or not it's cutting edge.

Yeah I agree
I don't think AC cares if they are "on the cutting edge of experimental music." They just make the music that they want to make and play what they want to play and if people think it is crazy revolutionary, then cool. Yes they seem push themselves creatively and instrumentally as much as possible but I highly doubt they sit around talking about if their new song is "cutting edge" or not.

also "trying to remain relevant" sounds more like following trends rather than making something new

The term 'relevant' is one of the more obnoxious terms when discussing music.

Couldn't agree more. Trying to stay "relevant" usually kills bands in their later years.
