I’m likely reading more into this than necessary but I wonder if since these two songs have now been “debuted” in higher profile settings/official quality if we could see a Genie’s Open/King’s Walk single

Since it seems like this isn't coming any time soon do we think they'll wait until they can do a proper tour again to drop this? Would be sick to do that and then play like none of the record and hopefully have mostly new songs.

that would be such a dope release structure. it'd be like people remastering and arranging the stems from SMiLE before Brian Wilson released "Brian Wilson Presents SMiLE"
[edit] is the font on this website fucking with me? Why is the smaller part of the capital B on the bottom? am I tripping?

Somebody mentioned the band said it was mastered they just don’t know when it’s coming out but hopefully this year. Honestly I really hope it comes this year, these songs have been around to long, I’m sure the band is ready to move on and these songs and skiffs really go together the long wait isn’t serving anyone

tired of re-litigating this. "hopefully this year" is them playing chicken with global oblivion. Avey had a similar sentiment re: 7s, caveat "if there's still a world". Domino sucks but there is no way they're making AC sit on a recorded album for two years especially there isn't a world tour to hitch it to. Worst case scenario it'll be two EPs

Releasing EPs feels like such a fumble to me but at this point I guess its better t just put this stuff out. Why not singles throughout the year and then a vinyl LP early 2024? Domino let's make a deal

I'd rather two EP batches, don't even see how some of the remaining songs go together.

for the better batch of songs (imo) of the TS+TS2 group, i would hate to see them relegated to EPs.
why not a double album with disc 1 having the songs that move to Havana, college frat parties, friends with Muppet hats and the songs that space out could be on disc 2.

let's not forget, there's a few unheard songs they're keeping in their back pockets, something epic they'll whip out on us seemingly out of nowhere, that could very well be the glue for some of these tunes to hang together into a sonic narrative best suited for an LP. i feel like this could be their most stylistically diverse album since Strawberry Jam, which at this point remains their greatest showcase of their creative recklessness, eclectic nature, and interest in exploring various textures and colors. that album is all over the place but hangs together so well. i see a world where they pull that off again for TS2.
there's gotta be an LP in the mix here. some of these songs are too epic to be relegated to a format that doesn't elicit as much excitement or anticipation. the indie world is waiting for THE NEXT ANIMAL COLLECTIVE ALBUM. may it come to be this year.

I think there will absolutely be a full album at some point this year. It would be ridiculous to have a full album by the band ready to go and just sat waiting for any longer than 12 months. I don’t see how releasing multiple EPs would be of any additional benefit to Domino rather than an album release. Surely that would just complicate things further.
EP with leftover songs summer next year would be my guess. Assuming we get TS2 autumn/winter 2023. There are so many fan-favourites songs from this era that there’s always going to be a group that are disappointed their favourite track has been relegated to a smaller release, but feels unavoidable at this point

I'm predicting an LP will be announced maybe a month or so after 7s is out, then will be released late summer

For Avey's sake, this is optimal as it means he won't have to answer questions about TS2's release date after every show he plays. By end of May I'm sure he'll be sick of that. Would be nice if instead he gets people coming up to him equally stoked about his record and TS2's imminence.

no offense but does anyone here reallu give a shit about the indie world or an animal collective album that doesn’t get compared to a burrito hitting a windshield by some weenie blogger. like I get it there’s definitely something missing from some of the later albums but the guys don’t care ab any of that otherwise they would’ve just made mpp 2. a lot of people consider time skiffs a comeback but it’s not like that’s what they were going for.

what are you even talking about -- were you just trying to be a buzzkill? lol
i'm not comparing AC albums at all or whatever you're going on about. just sharing an observation i've seen on indieheads/RYM/CA/music blogs (NOT pitchfork) that an album gets people a whole lot more excited than an EP, and people are really excited about the next AC album, as always, and i don't know as much as it could be splitting hairs if an EP brings in the same amount of fervor. an LP just brings with it a certain amount of gravity that an EP doesn't.

well luckily obsessively listening to Sevens will kill a few months of waiting for new AC music so after Feb 17 i'll also feel pretty distracted AC-wise for a bit

I know it's been a lil while since they changed it up but does anyone have some demoitis about the new version of Stride Rite? I dunno, just feel like the full chorus after the first verse hits so much harder. Plus Deaks ascending vocal melody during the chorus's second half feels so much more cathartic to me. Hope the studio version feels a lot more fulfilled but that's just me.

Yeah, I feel like the late 2021 version towards the end of that tour was perfection and the 22 version was a small step back, especially since they removed those changing chords under avey’s singing at the end. Lost a lot of its impact

Ok. So it sounds like we will be getting an LP out of these songs at some point. (That's what I expect and am personally hoping, and it better have Defeat on it !!!)
What are we thinking.. 2023 or 2024? This is the question.

I could see them announcing it as soon as early this summer. And then it comes out in the fall or early winter. Panda probably rearing to do another solo era asap. Its BEEN ready, and Avey's solo cycle only took like a month and a half. They should honestly do it faster and drop it in the summer

They need to strike while the iron is still at least warm, they’re a band of a pretty established fan base at this point that’s who they’re playing to, to wait until 2024 would be crazy at this point. We all know it’s ready let us eat domino

very curious what the singles will be if there are any. could be a longer one. if they just released Gem and I that would a pretty misleading teaser I would say lol. Part of me wonders if the album is still gummed up in the mixing phase between the guys (edit: or rather the decisions about tracklist, songs of EPs or the LP etc)

it won't happen, but it would be very nice if this dropped without any pre-release singles because i don't think i'll be able to restrain myself from listening to the advance singles yet i want to go into this totally fresh
hoping for a september release if not sooner.

I agree. Gem and I definitely at least shouldn't be the lead single, I think that would make the fans who aren't familiar with the new songs assume that the album will just be a retread of Time Skiffs. I think Magicians would be a great single; it's characteristically long and multi-sectioned like several of these tracks are, but it's still packed with "accessible" hooks. Stride Rite could be a cool single too.
But yeah ultimately no singles would be ideal. Unless they really do decide to do a standalone single with a b-side.

Magicians would be a god-tier lead single in terms of building hype. I'm thinking they'll do at least two singles, with a panda track and Stride Rite being the most likely candidates. Here's hoping sooner rather than later
