hello first time poster, wanted to listen to the Vancouver boot and went ahead and just split it too:
https://www.mediafire.com/folder/tyyfzc ... _Vancouver
please lmk if there are any issues!
also, me and a couple other very helpful ppl on discord have been working on uploading ac boots to the live music archive, would anyone here be interested in helping too? regardless, i tracked down a couple full shows on yt while doing this that aren't currently listed here so i'll post them here tonight. also identified a bunch of dead links in the current post so i'll post those later as well.
finally out of curiosity, both links of ttg are dead on the current live recordings post. did we have an actual video of them performing at the museum?

alrighty here we go
missing bootlegs from youtube
broken links
i haven't done all the solo boots yet so there'll probably be more there.
in case people were curious, here's the sheets i made to help us upload boots to archive. cell G1 has the progress. we've done some already so i might come back and give a list of those archive links. solo stuff and interviews is wip.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing
here is also my playlist of as many live videos i can find on youtube, no full shows. mostly cellphone stuff.

thank you! and keep up the good work re: archive.org!
people should chime in about broken links... unless people have copies of some of these they may be lost. i'll check mediafire—i occasionally uploaded video backups in case of this kind of thing.
who recorded TTG at the guggenheim? that was someone on the board, right?

This is great work, really exciting to see! I agree w/r/t to the broken links, I have a bunch of stuff on my computer/hard drives that I'd be glad to contribute if it isn't online.

thank yall!! most broken links i've caught are for the videos, so i'll update if i come across any dead links to audio boots. what i'm really hoping to do is also build up a list of video interviews on youtube since those could get taken down any moment. like the nylon tv mojito stand interview got taken off youtube recently. but i digress, that'll be something for the interviews topic.

so... i found out that you can upload things to internet archive with python and made this: https://github.com/opalesc3/ancoLMAuploader
it does one very specific thing and that is rename animal collective bootleg files to fit the live music archive requirements and uploads them to LMA. please note that it currently
1. only works for mac (i am using a macbook)
2. is made by a self taught coder (probably has issues)
3. is only for animal collective (i might fork it and make it universal eventually)
however it does currently work and will hopefully help speed up uploading things to LMA. wonder if i could put this on my resume.

thats very heartwarming. i feel like i wrote a python script 10 or 15 years ago to organize the OP of this thread (although i might be mixing it up with various scripts i wrote for the lyrics wiki or the static CA3 backup). godspeed!

Yeah, I personally recommend Jupyter for your IDE, it's easy enough to figure out. I'm an incredibly lay programmer and barely know shit about computers (I do Math, not this magic electricity shit!) and it was simple for me.

Was looking at 2013 sets and apparently they played Alsatian Darn as a full band in Boise on September 7th. Anyone have any leads to any recording of this? I did a search but came up empty. Never seen it discussed or brought up before.

I'd put my money on that being a mis-tag and they probably opened with I Think I Can

what would people say have been the best sounding 2022 boots overall, sound quality wise?

starland from march is really good quality but they had technical issues halfway through the set, and the meow wolf one from may is immaculate in my opinion

I have a ton of the boots, but I've always wondered.. What's the best recording for each year they ever toured? Also, what do y'all use for cover art when you put the boots into your MusicBee/iTunes/etc.? I've got a few pics that I reuse but would love some variety and for them to actually be square images
edit: excluding radio shows, Glasslands, Other Music 2004... or any of the other boots that have an exclusive unreleased song
another edit: I was supposed to see them Saturday 8/27 and Avey had agreed to wish my gf a happy birthday before they went into her current favorite song (Broke Zodiac)... Such a friggin bummer he lost his voice.

I just try to find photos from the show and if there aren'y any I just use random pictures of them from whatever year the show is from. also, are you asking best in terms of quality or actual content because I couldn't tell you what the best quality ones are but could tell you my favorites in regards sets

Hey dude I don't know if you weren't there, I haven't been here a while also, but scroll back like two pages and youll see around when skiffs was released they had multiple huge polls about this sort of stuff. that'll help a lot lol

Hi! I'm one of the few who are helping with the switch to archive. Seems like the people at LMA are really intent on keeping things lossless (though they won't police what's in the AC/related collections). Unfortunately, a lot of these shows available to download are lossy. If anyone has lossless copies of shows on here that are available lossy only, or knows a good source for lossless AC shows, please let me know in a reply here or in my inbox. Thanks all!

what do you mean? is it a technical issue or people sending messages or what?
a lot of the older stuff was probably only ever available as MP3, then for a while mediafire had upload limits and so i or other people transcoded stuff to 320 before uploading. i don't keep anything around that's not in the OP (except an occasional video rip) so if it's not here, it may not be anywhere
i understand the preference for lossless audio but i think my goal has always included just getting recordings to people for them to listen to

I'm in contact with one of the admins on the LMA to get stuff figured out for both it and Relisten.net and basically their rules are pretty strictly lossless audio only. It isn't a technical issue because Relisten rips the mp3 derive anyway but I'm not really supposed to upload anything lossy. The admin said they won't police what's uploaded for the anco collection but they do have a strong preference for lossless.

Ah I see. That really stinks, especially in those early shows where they experimented so often with frequency and dynamics. I'm just trying to find higher quality sources for LMA so I figured I'd make a post in the thread about it.

Mine too, I mean I uploaded the shows lossy because of this, but the LMA guy said "Yes, but that is your goal, not necessarily the LMA's. But, I do understand the desire to preserve everything. I am an archivist by nature." Seems like, from our interactions, they're understanding for this instance but not enthusiastic about it.

There's a lot of audio on archive.org that's MP3 only (virtually all of it is outside of the Live Music Archive, but still), so I'd say just go for it. As the archivist indicated, there are going to be exceptions to the policies due to what is available.

Oh don't worry I already am, have uploaded like 20 shows since the 28th and probably 2 of them are lossless.
By the way, if anyone would like to help, please do! There are a lot of shows left and the faster we get these done the faster we can move on to solo shows (which we got permission to from Deakin), the faster the band's legacy is preserved more enduringly.

Sounds good. FYI, Josh gave his permission in 2010 and there are still only five of his shows on the LMA.

Someone should get written permission from Avey and Panda to upload recordings of their shows to the LMA.

Oh! He actually gave permission for all of the solo members to a friend on instagram when asking him for specifics.

Seems like he wants to have it under the AC collection as well but not sure. Need to talk to him more about options.

i think what we hashed out with the relisten folks is that we could get close to what deak wants by uploading solo boots under the collections of both animal collective and the collection of the solo member, it's just that on relisten they would show up twice, once under both collections. the problem there is that in the animal collective section on relisten you wouldn't be able to differentiate between solo boots and full band boots because of the way relisten formats things.
basically me and alex and everyone working on this should prob contact the band and figure out what they want. kinda feel like i should make a "This Is How LMA and Relisten Work To The Best Of My Knowledge And These Are Our Options" powerpoint or something.

The way I read Josh's Instagram message is that he's fine with uploads of his solo shows to the LMA, and isn't sure what the best place would be (under "Deakin" or under "Animal Collective"). Back in 2010, a separate collection for "Deakin" was already created on the LMA and it makes sense to leave it that way. This follows the Grateful Dead model of having one place there for the band and separate ones for each of the band members (except Garcia; that's another story).
I think the main thing now is to get written permission from Avey and Panda so that separate collections can be created for them on the LMA.
Edit: The instructions for artists who want to be added to the LMA are here:
https://help.archive.org/help/live-musi ... new-artist
Also note that you can get the written permission from them yourself and then forward that to the LMA admins. That's what someone did for Deakin back when -- see this:
https://archive.org/details/Deakin?tab=about

yeah, we're just not sure if the band wants it under both the solo collection and the main animal collective collection. this is something that you can do on LMA, it would just mess stuff up on relisten which i understand is something deak at least would like.
michaelz wrote:

was hoping to just dm avey and deak on insta and ask if they could get permission for all the solo stuff, but it looks like avey's insta might be hacked? it got blanked out and the bio was some random rap lyric for a while apparently.
related and important: the animal collective soundcloud seems to have been taken down. i'm not sure if this is intentional or related to what's happening with avey's instagram but either way do any of yall have downloads of 2004-08-22 Neumo's (https://soundcloud.com/anmlcollective/a ... st-22-2004) and 2004-11-18 Cat's Cradle (https://soundcloud.com/anmlcollective/c ... erformance)? both of those links are dead now, and i never downloaded them to upload to archive because i wasn't sure if the band was ok with us uploading shows they released themselves :((((((

I have both of these but I used one of those soundcloud ripping websites to get them so they're very low bitrate mp3s (one's 128kbps, one's 266). Let me know if you want em and I can upload

AC had Cat's Cradle on their bandcamp site. It wasn't free but at least part of the proceeds were going to a cause or charity. I don't know if it's still there.
