Strange Colores might be the most straight up satisfying AC song since...uhh, I dunno, What Would I Want Sky?

Hey guys, it's been a lonnnng time since I last popped in. So glad the record is streaming now. I love the catchiness of the record and am glad I preordered it. Just felt like sharing my impressions. A Sender gives me Mr Blue Sky vibes. I love the opening of Catchy, but wish he brought it back later in the song. The whole back end of the record is some great songwriting. Really catchy, fun, and/or danceable stuff. I'm a bit indifferent on duplex trip tho. Sounds like a centipede outtake (not a knock as I loved CHZ), just doesn't vibe as hard for me. The outlaw and your card are just decent for me as well. But all those others, esp the singles, sender, modern days e and catchy are amazing, and one of them (roses?) reminds me of prince in a way, which is a great thing
Peace gang.
Peace gang.

so as soon as I finished streaming this I searched "re-hash" and "rehash" and "gorillaz" on the forum and nothing came up, so unless someone just linked to youtube without naming the song I'm surprised people hadn't compared the beginning of Roses on the Window to it yet!

Anyone else think that Avey sounds a whole lot like Roger Waters in the slow part of "That It Won't Grow"? All of a sudden it sounds like I'm listening to "Animals" (not a complaint).

rehash was the first thing i thought of when i heard the opening to roses, i'm glad it didn't follow the same progression. love the song though.

listened to the freebird with a couple of friends last night. i was expecting That it Won't Grow to be my favorite (based on what few boots i'd heard) but DAMN that chorus in Modern Days E.... fucking heavy man

Someone here said about the alt. rock vibe in Blind Babe. And now I've realized that it reminds me of Jane's Addiction (Ritual de lo Habitual era).

also does anyone feel like this album sounds almost like a happier version of Down There? it seems like a lot of the production choices are really similar but the songwriting is more triumphant or something this time around. idk i might be talking out of my ass lol, gotta listen to it more

I do miss the heavy, crashing drums that were in the boots for "Duplex Trip." Kinda wish they had bumped those up more in the mix for that song in particular.

yeesh...just finished the video. I haven't been this disappointed since centipede hz....and the visuals to the video are even more disappointing than the music itself. sorry i'm being such an asshole, but whatever 'hype' was behind this release seems worthless at this point.

catchy was contagious, contagious to teenagers? i rlly have no idea, but ya i usually dont want official lyrics for anything but I want em rlly badly for this.
I never though of "You can learn how to play the game, but you still gotta live with yr heart". that sounds right and is actually an awesome last line before "you're fire". thanks bergeron. and ya go to lyrics thread if yr prodigious at deciphering words

it all kinda blends into itself. effects accentuate avey's annoying vocal traits. also there are some especially bad lyrics on a few songs. not unpleasant overall and a few jams tho. cool basslines (too squelchy for me tho) & drums & angel's vox. roses on the window sounds so cool and dubby at the start but then eh w/e.
a sender, blind babe, that it won't grow & strange colores r the aforementioned jams.

when I first heard the line "Hey Mr. Fuzzy Face" I hadn't shaved in a couple of days and that shit really spoke to me.

Fave songs: A Sender, Blind Babe, Duplex Trip, Little Fang, Strange Colores, Catchy Was Contagious, Modern Days E
Have only heard Roses once though.
I like all the songs but if I had to choose those to me are the catchiest, and I can't really see how people arent digging this overall, so many jams. definitely took a few listens though.

The visual stream is kind of wasted in my opinion, since even in 1080p it still looks like it was filmed on a toaster.
As for the album itself, I'm glad that Avey released it and it does a great job improving on what AnCo set out with CHZ to do. I feel that this album really benefits from having a bunch of downtempo songs (Catchy, Roses, Your Card) in it, which actually allows me to listen to it all the way through without running into the temptation to shut it off. It makes for a much better first impression, and I wouldn't be surprised if this album ends up growing on me even more in THE FUTURE, unlike CHZ which sounds more fatiguing every time I decide to come back to it.
That being said, I'm kind of burnt out on this whole manic, funhouse aesthetic that they've been doing for the past 3 years and I'm ready to hear a new direction. It's no surprise that my favorite songs from this include Roses, Little Fang, Yr Card, and Modern Dayse, the few that don't mercilessly batter me with hundreds of different sound effects. And even that might be pushing it a little bit. I dunno, maybe I'm just not hardcore enough to gel with this whole maximalist sound that Avey is championing.
On a side note, anyone else love the breakdown in Roses in The Window? It's so euphoric haha.

Wow that shit about noise is pretty depressing. At least we know dave has some sweet songs still left up his sleeve (Slow Words, Sometimes, etc).
This isn't really my favorite album released this year anymore (Swans, Cloud Becomes Your Hand)...but I just jammed to it at school today and I love 80% of it even after about 9 months of hearing these tracks.

that was a nice interview, so Geo had a girl now, and Deakin is really working on more than one project

yeah i think that too, she used the same aesthetic from the Chz videos, and a bunch of loops.. i think something with more old horror movies or even a lyric video would be more interesting

Spot on. I get that she's fam and all, but she can't direct to save her life. She should just stick to doing the album artwork, the original Centipede HZ cover was a real work of art.
