Yeah I think the freebird sounds just fine, quality wise. Unless you decide to blast it through massive PA's at an ear piercing volume, I don't think you'll notice any issues. To think that the people who are disappointed with the freebird quality could just be setting themselves up for future dissapointment when they hear the final product and it sounds near identical to the freebird. So if you're biggest problem is with sound quality, perhaps you're really just not that into the music?

Edit: And yeah Diomedes, I take it back. I think the opinion is more divided now than before. Not more people who don't like it than do.

you all are hijacking this thread, the album comes out in a few weeks. Hold tight, but Avey said the principle concern of the band right now is releasing live shows. This is huge news. They must have some crispy sound boards to share with us, with any luck it will cover all their tours too.

trapped and muffled are words that can be used to help describe Avey's vocal style, at times. that and warbled. and shouty.

Still, I disagree. I can still garner the basic gist out of the songs, even if the sound quality is not the best. Anyways, you're making it out to seem like the freebird sounds like someone recorded it on their cellphone while at a pre-release party. It's certainly not as bad as that, and it obviously is the "final press", albeit in a weaker sound quality.

right. i'm sure when the v0 comes out, we'll all be like "wow i never heard that flute solo buried in the shitty rip! and omg that Kanye guest verse we never heard because of the less-than-optimal high frequencies! this is a WHOLE NEW ALBUM!"

if you've heard the freebird - you've heard the album, and can form an opinion on it. if that opinion changes after a v0 freebird, then you are deluded.

Agree with B-Hound, it's obviously not optimum quality but you can hear most of the details and it's not like it's gonna be an entirely new album when the actual version comes out. I don't see how someone could dislike the album based on the freebird and then hear the final version and be like "oh wait this is awesome" or vice versa.

I mean I had exactly the same feeling about Strange Colores when the video was released w/higher quality music.

To be fair, the freebird is incomplete. Therefore we're forming incomplete opinions on the album as a whole. Roses reps a pretty big chunk of the record.

Just got a promo copy of the CD, not sure if it's watermarked or not so I'm not going to upload it (sorry guys).....but to my ears the sound quality is quite a bit better than the freebirded version. As far as I can tell, the versions/mixes on the freebird are identical to those on the copy I have.

It's on there...in terms of production and overall quality, it's very similar to the rest of the album. I didn't follow the boots for this one too closely, so I can't think of anything more specific to say than that, sorry.

Hey all!

Some thoughts on production. Personally I don't hear phaser/flanger used much here. But what I think is that everything is highpassed a lot, to get rid of conflicts between different sounds. Like a mixing engineer didn't want to spend a lot of time cleaning everything — so he just highpassed everything this much. Except bass track of course. It's what I would take as an example of music to cause an ear fatigue.

I like the songs but I think the album would be better if production wasn't so extreme.

Also, when I first heard that Little Fang song, I was — omg, couldn't they do a better vocals production? But then I got used to it.

Remember the difference between the stream rip of CHz and the 1st proper freebird? It also wasn't so big, but it was much more pleasant to listen to the freebird. Sonic thing matters in this kind of music and you don't have to be an audiophile to hear the difference.
