Haha, all the Tomboy singles were suspiciously close to 4:20 too.

Huge thanks to Sonic and Scooter!

This has such a classic Panda sound to it. I doubt that this is anything like what the album will sound like but it's awesome to hear Noah going back to basics.

WOAH this is so good thanks pete for sharing! and thanks to everyone else who found the song! i seriously cant fucking wait for this album now

also, maybe this has already been discussed (i've been keeping away from the boots so im not sure which samples we've found) but yeah im pretty sure the chanting sample that starts in the beginning is some version of the song Mbube - maybe this version, but sped up a bit?

ohh nice find, that's definitely it!

Yeah, I think it was dance avey dance who suggested it was Paul Simon's "Homeless" a while back, and I thought that was it, but this seems closer.

Nice find yegarma! make sure to post in the samples thread if you didn't already :) It definitely sounded exactly like Homeless...until this song haha. Even the little roll in the beginning is there!

Ok upon many more listens this song is actually incredibly evocative. A combination of the title being so theatric in nature and "make my day" being the last song of the ATP set I presume it will be the closer on the album? This song is representative of that final push into death for me. The first part sounds like a boat going down a dark swampy creek lined on both sides by people wearing cartoony day of the dead masks, kind of like a ride at disney world. It has this druggy hazy feeling that is similar to the opiated drug coma they put someone in who is fading away in hospice care. Not a scary feeling but the feeling of physical bliss and acceptance.

The chopped up sample seems like that person losing their grip on the reality we exist in. The words become mixed and lose all meaning and just turn into noise. Panda's angelic tones soaring overtop. Then the final sound fades in...which to me it evokes the towering horror that is the infinity of non-existence. A sound so present and unwavering, it is the final blackness that is more powerful than anything we can comprehend.

Not making claims or presumptions that is just what this song reminds me of! I hope its actually the closer/on the album. Very psyched for this now, this album has immense potential. I wonder if all of it will have a narrative type structure?

I'm totally with you! Like this seems like next level AC right here. It's not just some watery psychedelic noise pop it's got a lot of substance beneath the surface.

i dono i dont think its as simple as that/while it could also be kinda like a "yo just chill out" kinda song. but if the whole theme of the record is about how death brings in the new i think its just sorta like a cleansing kinda jam, it fits well with the gospel samples driving the track.

that'd be whack if he started producing/doing vox so raw and live sounding like that. Might be kinda cool but I don't really see that happening cuz he seems to be all about through-composing and Panda-choir. Could be interesting. Wish we knew if this was an LP cut or a one-off demo-y thing so I'd know how to even approach it..

Q tips, people. Amongst other things, you can tell primarily by the distant vocals that it's live. The samples are so upfront and clear because they are part of a direct feed to the soundboard. You guys are getting way too used to all the crappy iphone recordings of recent shows that when a legit live recording comes out everyone is floored.

I'm fairly certain this is a soundboard recording. Still though, it's cool that Noah seems to be just goofing around and having fun with his music. In that sense I love it.

I'm not an audio expert or anything, so I apologize if this question sounds stupid, but wouldn't you still be able to hear a good amount of natural sound/audience noise even if it is a soundboard recording? I guess it's hard to tell with this recording, since there's a good amount of atmospheric stuff going on in the background anyway, but the music/sounds/vox sound pretty isolated (i.e. like it's not live).

And just as an aside, if this is in fact a studio recording of "Make My Day", I'm totally cool with that. I felt something like Benfica sounded a little sanitized with the studio treatment (even though I still like it), and I was/am afraid that these new jams will sound like that when they get the studio treatment.

What's to say he didn't record it like this aesthetically to mimic a live sound? What I mean is, why can't it sorta be a "studio version" while also essentially being a live soundboard type recording? I'm not an expert either, but I think it could be kind of cool if he was looking for that live sound and recorded it in such a way that is set up as if it's a soundboard recording, minus the crowd in the room.

Having said that, I agree with everyone else about the "studio treatment" sentiments. I actually enjoy that this sounds more raw. It adds character to it. It makes sense for this song too, while it may not to this degree for every song. For example, the "can't go back" song may benefit from a little more polished / less delayed vocals, but a similar approach would be preferred IMO.

That's a good point, I didn't even consider that. He could've just played it live and set up a few mics, as opposed to recording each part on different tracks.

And I totally agree with the point on "can't go back". That song deserves to sound crisp and pure, imo, and I really hope the album version doesn't have a lot of reverb-ed/delayed shouts or samples from movies/field recordings/children's television shows/etc.

theres no audience noise because a soundboard recording means it a recording of everything thats fed through the speakers, meaning that it is the pure sounds and pandas mic

Without a question a live recording.

Like DAD said, the samples are dry and up-front, which is the result of recording the direct feed of Noah's gear. If you listen though you'll hear that there a "backend" ambience to the sounds - especially to the vocal feed - which is what happens when room mics are added to a direct signal. Doing this dampens up the mix and makes the listener get a feel for the venue's environment. But the biggest give away to me is the compression. It's sounds really unnatural and is the effect when you compress a master bus of a live recording as opposed to treating each channel individually.

If you don't believe me, go listen to officially released live songs. The Brother Sport and Summertime Clothes from LA in 2007 that was given away with MPP are a perfect example. Homebase is another.

not sure if this has already been mentioned, but the snippets of dialogue at the end are from Apocalypse Now. Can be heard at 0:05 in this video:

Also I love how the beginning of that massive synth chord at the end sounds like a train. Panda loves those train samples, doesn't he?

This is cool.
Apocalypse Now is great. Hope there's some AN-inspired imagery on this album.

PS

Would be cool to have the track list of the mix-tapes
