Hard to say but I'm guessing it's track 6 on Sinister Grift :smugdog:

Now that we know what this album sounds like, I'm so sad to know that his twitter snippets aren't on the album :( That clip over the vid of a guy playing the acoustic guitar was such a vibe, I wish that was a real song so bad.

Why do you think that those snippets won’t be on the album? That one especially I think is

Ya wasn't he posting clips of just like vibes, sample/synth based loops semi recently (years ago lol).

Maybe I'm consumed and it was just Reset clips, but no I don't mean just those.... but they weren't "Rock" band-ish and wouldn't seem to fit with new song.

I like the new song but it def did sound borderline like "too simple" melodically and lyrics wise at first. But it grew, only nit-pick is repeating a kinda empty sounding lyrics like "here I cum" over and over isn't my favorite and I question why he's chill with saying so little for so long lyrically sometimes. Like I personally would never want to sing "here I come" over and over even if my voice was as beautiful as pandas unless it made kind of clear sense within the context of rest of lyrics. if someone can make that lyrics more meaningful for me, im all ears. (and im not a lyrics guy honestly but like. I need a little bit of meaning/or vibes I guess).

The piano notes are so chill and change the harmony a lot.

stoked for tour, Denver

I want to clarify I don't have confirmation of this, but I just don't think they will be because of the very minimal production on them compared to what we heard on the two new singles (especially the drums). Also, in the superflower/Avey interview, he said something along the lines of "I'm not sure those are teasers, as much as just playing around". Maybe not as obviously stated as that but yeah that's where I was coming from. I'd love to be wrong though

the lyrics totally make sense. "respect / tryin to reset what's inside my mind." followed by "this place i can't occupy / here i come." he's promising, or trying to convince someone/himself, that he's going to change. "here i come" he says in reference to the place he can't occupy. he's signalling a change in attitude by insisting he's coming to this place he thought was out of reach.

the broadness of his lyrics is also an invitation to fill the gaps with your own feelings and associations while listening to the song, like any effective pop song. plus it lets the music itself do a lot of the talking. defense gives you a lyrical template -- regret, yearning, striving to fix yourself -- which you can project onto, and the music provides the deeper emotional thrust.

I kind of both do and dont care about lyrics... but it's cool to see pandas style develop. there's highs and lows of the post tomboy cryptic, minimalist thing he usually goes for, but on reset it def got as like ad-jingle level simplicity as he's gotten and this is kinda close to that. which can be chill cuz then you have stuff like Danger where it's a more direct and verbose.

For me lyrics has a huge role in the experience of listening panda bear's music. I mean really huge. That's the problem I have with the Buoys album, where I like the music but most of the time I don't understand what he talk about and I miss a big part of the experience.

I think I'm mostly with you. I like Buoys but it's not in my top 3, and lyrics might be a factor. I remember after Buoys he tweeted something about "doubling down on sincerity" which I think might bear out on Grift.

my guess would be late november, then single 3 in early/mid Jan, then fourth single in mid Feb

Domino tends to release one single a month in the 3-4 months leading up to the release, but december is a dead month so i think they'll skip it

Total honesty time...

Many of you know me (at least a little bit) and I've been around here forever. I'm a long time head and have even occasionally been accused of being a bit of a Pollyanna. Everything AC touches is gold. Right now though, I'm feeling myself in a bit of crisis...

TS and IIN were the most 'conventional' sounding albums the collective have ever released. That said, I was deeply attached to the songs and I felt like the whole era came across as a really wholesome reflection of the band's long term connections etc. I loved both albums just like I'd loved everything before.

I've heard Defense a few times now and I'm just not connecting with it at all. I fear that Noah has gone too far down this 'conventional' path that it is just sounding a bit... bland. To be frank, it barely even sounds like him anymore. Most of the unique appeal from those original Madrid boots feels lost here and the style has transformed into some pretty straightforward 'rock'. This guy is one of the most inventive drummers of all time but this song offers nothing. Simplistic and banal drums that don't change the whole song. This guy wrote and performed the drums in the fucking PURPLE BOTTLE! And even recently songs like Magicians have really engaging drum parts. Panda's song writing is often quite simple and repetitive but has typically produced a kind of pleasing (sometimes euphoric) meditative effect that I've always loved and been 100% hooked into. I'm not getting that here either :(.

It's like he has shed virtually all the idiosyncrasies that made him such a unique and captivating artist. I'm worried for this album. I really don't mean to be a downer but I feel like this is the only place to get this out. CA are the only ones who might understand that feeling this way goes beyond just 'liking' or 'not liking' a song. I'm genuinely feeling down about it! Haven't really had a reaction this strong to new AC before.

As a bit of a P.S. I'm also really bummed about news of Noah's divorce. As a happily married man with children myself, one of the things that has always contributed heavily to my deep sense of connection with the band was the fact that they seemed like regular dudes, family men etc. When Dave and Kria broke up I really struggled because songs like 'Bluish' had become a massive part of my life. My wife has curls just like the ones Dave sings about in that song. When they split I felt like maybe some the songs and lyrics that meant so much to me were now hollow or void. Now I'm getting those same feelings about so much of Noah's work that has reflected on love, marriage and fatherhood.

Help me! What do I do here?!

Im just feel a bit connected in a way to what you have said. For sure is Panda Bear's personal life and his own business. But in all these years, following the path of being a regular dude and having a family ive create a sort of emotional closeness to panda bear's song and the themes many times talk about. Its like they were at the same time a soundtrack/commentary of what happened in my life and a support/spiritual guide while a following this path. There is a parallelism with my life and what these song rapresent to me, and it was a huge part of the experience of listen to his music.

this doesnt mean the songs are not good anymore, or i cant find the meaning anymore.., but it just make me sad in some way knows that his marriage ended. Only this. There's a bitter aftertaste...its weird.

the most annoying thing about the "i'm bummed about noah's divorce" take i'm seeing here, on reddit, the discord channel, etc. is that its always framed with the implication that somehow noah's pureness is impacted because he went and did this thing, which, (1) places the onus of the divorce on noah and (2) strips Fernanda Pereira of any agency in the choice, maybe she wanted the divoce and sinister grift will be noah's version of death cab for cutie's kitsugi, or bob dylan's blood on the tracks.

I guess its not unreasonable to look to noah (or any celeb/artist/person you admire) as aspirational or draw meaning from the ties between their life and their art but i gotta say, it is deeply weird and parasocial to be following the tabloid drama of this guy's life.

sorry, i don't mean to trivialize how people are feeling, people are for sure entitled to those feelings, its just hard to jump from the ca might close forever thread to inane posts about noah's fucking marriage.

I want to specificy again that I would never allow myself to judge Noah (or another person) about his personal life choices, and judge them. It's their own business. I find weird (I agree with you) that I'm feeling sad about it (cause they are people who personally i don't know). That's I think it's revelatory about the kind of profound relationship people who deeply loves panda bear establish with his music.

The only thing I'm bummed about is the age gap between Noah and rivka I feel like we're allowed to have opinions on that at least. its not like the worst thing ever iirc she's 30 and he's in his 40s and they look rlly cute together on instagram and they're always posting each other and like its sweet that he had her do the album art. like the art bummed me out cus imo it kinda sux but if my gf made me an album cover and it wasn't good id still use it. it would be sad if CA really did shut down and some of the last discussions had on it were about this dude we don't know's divorce.

was not insinuating this. personally I would not go out with someone ten years younger than me that's all I'm saying. not criticizing anything on her part

My parents have a 10 year age gap. It happens all the time. Keep outta their business.

Looking forward to the new record

I think the cover art it's cool. It's a huge difference from the past,.much more traditional image. And I think it will be the same with the sound of the album. I think it want to communicate this change (also obviously the sinister gaze)

A bit of a confession: I actually didn't like the Tomboy art at first. Person Pitch and the singles were so my aesthetic vibe that I felt a bit let down by the lack of color and clarity. But then I heard it and now think it's fantastic.

typically with PB releases i'm a little cold at first and it takes me a few listens to warm up. but thats the best music imo.
with defense I looved on first listen and each listen after has dwindled a little. so i get the apprehension. it's a little too accessible/pop/conventional

one of my best pb memories was first hearing the homies vinyl rip, being extremely disappointed. but for some reason couldn't quit it. after a week of constant listening i kept discovering new little moments and sounds. couldn't get the melodies out of my head. now i think its just perfect from start to finish

also another reminder that if you think you know noah through his music you don't you just know his music really well and thats okay but his personal life is nonya business

I think, if marketing gifs are to be trusted, there's a cool pointilist font that spells out "panda bear sinister grift" in some kind of shiny reflective ink on the cover which, if true, makes me extremely like the cover.

Panda Bear has one good album cover (Reaper) one great cover (Person Pitch) and the rest are simply the thing I look at as I go to play the albums.
