If anyone has a store with copies, I will happily pay extra + shipping, and record a proper high-fidelity rip for the community. I have very decent vinyl>digital capabilities.

i'd love some vt in my life
defense - i lasted 12 hours without listening, and then my daughters came home and mocked me - "this isn't what panda bear would want," they said. i thought i'd have their support but little did i know. so i caved and have now listened to it on a loop. i wasn't impressed at first, and now i'm finding it sneaky catchy - stuck in my head like the best pb tracks. i love the guitar lick in the the song's opening even more than the solo stuff later in the track. gonna be a perfect closer.

I recorded/tracked and mixed the entire record both in stereo and in Atmos. It was co produced with noah of course. Heba did an amazing job mastering the record. Mixing and mastering are very distinct process. Mastering is the polish that is done to the final stereo file. In addition, my friend Paul Mercer gave some mix assistance in the final stage of the process. After mixing the record in my studio on a computer, we went to Wrightway Studio in Baltimore and spent two days running the mix stems through an SSL analog console and a bunch awesome vintage analog gear to give some warmth and weight to the mixes. Paul works at that studio and is more familiar with the gear so he was incredible helpful advising and hooking up different gear.
I take a lot of pride in the mixing I did on this record. It is definitely the hardest I’ve worked on a record from tracking to mixing this far.
Glad everyone is feeling the tracks. Can’t wait for the album release date. Think you’re all gonna be stoked. There are a number of vibes on this record and defense is only one of them.

Yeah Josh you knocked the mixes out the park on this. There's grit and clarity and tons of spatial depth. So stoked on hearing the rest of the record and am crossing my finger's for a digital Virginia Tech one day... been literally blasting that on repeat all evening and now morning.

Thanks Josh, I think you knocked it out of the park. This kind of work is clearly something that is quite intuitive for you. I think your work on Eucalyptus is super underrated. Definitely my favorite Avey record.
I had a couple of questions if you dont mind:
-Do you know what tuning was predominately used on the record?
-I think this is the first time Noah playing bass guitar made it on a record. What kind of bass and what guitars were mostly used?
-How long was the recording process? I read it was recorded in Noah's home studio.

That's very exciting!
And yeah, whether people think the song is okay, good or great, I think there’s forum-wide agreement that the mix of this song is absolutely fantastic. IIN? felt like the best produced/mixed/mastered record in the AC catalog and I wonder if there were some tricks of the trade that were picked up in the process, or if this is just going to be an era of increased emphasis on post-production wizardry. Feels like the band has always been intent on maximizing every aspect of the process to find ways to be creative, but I wonder if there’s a bit of extra juice happening in those departments for the 2020s?
Can’t wait to pick up my copy on Friday. Y’all are making sound Virginia Tech sound amazing.

Still riding the high of this single release and revisiting some of the recent snippets he shared. , what do you guys think of this one making it on the record? it was my favorite he shared, sounds very different from the others though and doesn't include any guitar work. if we're thinking it'll be more of a guitar/ rock record i'm worried it'll be an exercise left on the cutting room floor.

man can only hope it finds its place on SG

i feel like those more watery synthy clips from twitter aren't for SG... could totally wrong but they don't mesh with the rock n roll sounds we're feasting on in these two tracks

i fucking love how this song sounds. feels in the same vein of how IIN was recorded. raw, live, but deep and vivid.

I should add, for accuracy, that some things were recorded remotely by other people. The Cindy Lee guitar parts were recorded in Montreal by Steven Lind and sent to us. Noah also recorded some of the backing vocals with Rivka, Maria and a third person on his own after I left Lisbon. Dave recorded his part for the song he is on.

Josh, congrats on the amazing work, as others have said, you have a real talent for mixing (nevermind your abilities as a musician and songwriter in your own right).
No idea if there are plans for a digital release of Virginia Tech, but I hope so (bandamp?)--it's a great song!

wow i forgor deakin mixed eucalyptus. thats one of their finest mixed albums imo. like it's that and sung tongs in that it sounds EXACTLY like what i percieve they set out to do. the acoustic guitar in particular in that record. the little popping percussion of jackson 5. sung tongs captured the wall of sound with acoustics fantastically too. maybe its just that these guys can mix the fuck out of an acoustic guitar.
well also in terms of sounding like what i imagine they set out to do danse manatee also achieves that quite well. i dont know if this is folklore or not or if i just made this idea up in my head but i heard it was supposed to be like the record music for wounded CD. and it is very much like that/onkyo music with all the high frequencies.

if someone wants to send me vt i would not complain.
wasn't feeling defense that much yesterday. i really like the simplicity of all the madrid songs, but the poppy songs from that boot have much bigger hooks than this track. this one has the same simple ingredients except i felt like it was missing the blunt pop hookiness.
listening today though, i guess the initial hype was getting in the way because this is very catchy to me now. it's not an 'ends meet' level earworm but it's definitely working its way into my brain. cindy lee's guitar and deak's piano are the secret weapons.
agreed with everyone saying the mixing here is on point. it sounds huge yet warm and lush. there's not a lot of elements but they all have weight to them. it's the opposite of what buoys was going for, where the same basic elements sounded weightless and detached. i like buoys a lot but it's cool how this sounds nothing like it.
also pretty sick to have panda and cindy on a track together, two of my absolute favorite artists right now. excited to see what all the collaborators bring to this album.

can't find VT floating around... can someone pass me please : )
also re: defense
panda really loves his simple coda closers and this one is a banger like home free, ebltt, and acid wash. Definitely agree it has less depth than the other Madrid songs, but I think that's just because it's got such an anthem going for it. It's great. Cannot wait to see this setup live, hope we get the original Danger thrown in the mix

this single proves that grift is gonna be something so incredibly special. defense feels like every feature he's done on others' work in the past couple years has been some crazy training arc, specifically when it comes to the vocal production. i'm still not used to the instrumentation, if it weren't for the bendy guitar serving as an identifier i'd assume it was a new feature track of some sort.
if there's some superman throwing VT around, pretty please pm me with sugar on top. praying for a freebird soon, february is so effin far.

the boot version of "religious bop" is 4.5 minutes, and "Praise" is 3.5 minutes, anyone think this a concise version of RB?
for reference
boot version of Ends Meet is 5.5 minutes and it's 3:22 on record (-2 minutes)
boot version of Left in the Cold is 5 minutes and it's 4:37 on record (-30 seconds)
Religious Bop would be a great way to start the record with the skittering beats giving way to the killer guitar riff
