Zero disrespect to Fovrodi, and I think their sequencing is good and worth listening to for an alternate experience, but I also feel like someone has to stand up for the sequencing selected by the band and honestly I think it works very well and I enjoy it immensely as is.

second this, love the skiffs sequence as it is. tried fovs and found it interesting but didn’t open anything up for me the way it did for others.

Thanks a lot for giving it a listen! At the end of the day there is no substitute for the genuine article, won't deny that. More than anything it's an excuse for me to spend more time with the songs. Been following this band for almost 20 years now and there really hasn't been a more exciting time to be a fan believe it or not

100% agree. First album I heard was Ark in ‘03 and there have been many incredible periods to love this band and this one is right up there with the best of them.

psssst - it's totally unfair that TS + IIN will forever be linked and compared.... but i think I might like Time Skiffs more. I just think the the songs fit together better and is more cohesive. also love the little intros and outros on some of the songs that add to an overall mood

not to mention TS has the better album artwork of the two!

people complaining about the recording/mixing/whatever of TS (in a vacuum at least) is kidding themselves and way to close to the subject. you cannot tell it was recorded remotely and how the record itself sounds is not a detriment to the finished product.

also, passerby is fine how it turned out vs. how it was in 2019. who cares, nerds.

my one personal wish is that Deak kept R&D's title as "Down Down Down"

I disagree with quite a lot in that post, but you know, I probably have been too harsh on the Skiffs ever since hearing IIN... so here's some genuine positivity:

Dragon Slayer: uh, let's skip this one

Car Keys: I have my issues with how the actual song turned out here, but their solution to recording the outro jam remotely is one of my favorite moments of the album. Totally haunting and immersive atmosphere, and I love the sort of haphazard, tactile sounds of the acoustic strings (don't think it's a dulcimer but sort of sounds like one!)

Prester John - Definitely nailed the atmosphere in the first half! And I think the outro is cool, feels like traversing an alien planet.

Strung with Everything: The slide guitar when this song first blasts off and the following first couple of verses is honestly top tier AC for me, sweet and whimsical but also with slight hints of something melancholy underneath.

Walker: Both Strung and this one I feel basically turned out fine given the recording circumstances. The big harmonies at the end are amazing.

Cherokee: While I feel like this version is basically inferior to pretty much any live recording, it's still my favorite song on the album because I feel like the bones of it, the basic structure/composition/lyrics are just too good to fail. To me it's the other masterpiece of this era along with Magicians and Defeat. Fwiw I think the first part of the song sounds pretty great here. There's so many hidden layers that didn't reveal themselves to me until many many listens.

Passer-by: I'll say that I think they nailed the first half of the song here, not sure that it's ever sounded better.

We Go Back: another one like Strung and Walker that I don't think was harmed too much by recording remotely. I think they definitely did it justice with this recording, and I love all the auto tune hooks!

Royal and Desire: same goes for this one, one of those cases where the studio recording made me understand the song in a way I never did from the boots. The moment where Panda's drumming gradually becomes more forceful during the bywater rain line gives me chills. This is the song that ties the whole album together to me, works perfectly as a closer.

Do I still think that most of these songs would have been improved exponentially had they been recorded with Elevado? Yes, but as we all know dwelling on what we can't change is a fools errand. Gotta appreciate what we have!
