Can't stop listening. Crying. After an initial shock of underwhelm in which I was guarded and defended against finally meeting this moment where this song is here, I'm so floored by this song. Somehow they managed to capture their live essence in this mature, human sound. No pretension, no Animal Collective playing Animal Collective, no relying on eccentric effects and mixing styles to say something. It's just them, their heart (and of course the sounds and production are faithful, pleasing).

Been thinking of this quotation from one my favorite psychologists, James Hillman, since the Music Box Village debut of Defeat. He's speaking of winning over the fears of Y2K and kernel panic by emphasizing the psychological necessity of defeat, that we may want to 'save' defeat from the "jaws of victory". Really profound image, in my eyes.

i agree with the song not fading out i don't think this is a closer. would be pretty wild to have this in the middle. might be skipped a lot down the road during full album listens if ur not in the mood to 'go there'. as an opener-would it be the first time anco opens with a song this slow?
They opened with daffy duck at some shows in 2006-2006

God, just the tone and emotion of Noah's voice when he first enters on "douse the sheets"... like people have been saying, they truly nailed every little detail.

Does it count as recency bias to say this is their best song ever written if a lot of us have been hearing it for 5 years

Really thought this would be an Enjoy the Change-type situation where we were supposed to enjoy the change

It’s surreal we are talking about the studio version of this song

those background vocals in the "defeat" section that sound like dogs howling are so eerie and beautiful

i can't stop thinking about how a while back someone here said "y'all are not prepared to hear the lyric 'praise for the underdog' sung at studio room temperature" and at the time i knew they were right but now i know that they were wrong and i'm so happy they were wrong

Ah yeah I hear it now, there’s a hiss or something in the right channel on the “you” of how bout you that was throwing me off, hope that’s an artifact of the vinyl rip (which, thanks again)
Anyways, that verse in particular guts me every time

Just confirming there's no digital release of this yet is there?
I think I'll wait to listen rather than hear a phone recording of the vinyl.

I mean, it's not a phone recording. so I don't know why you would say that. I reckon it sounds "good enough" for a first listen, can't say much more besides that
Digital release rumored for next week so you'll wait approx. 6 days

Digital release will be Monday-Wednesday which is when labels drop new singles.
Albums drop on Fridays
