short 4-star review in The Scotsman (beach boys namedrop —  ✓check ✓)
wrote:
Two more pseudonymous pals, Noah Lennox of Animal Collective and Pete Kember of Spacemen 3, better known by their stage names Panda Bear & Sonic Boom, come together on Reset, another tasty homage to the US of A’s classic musical canon. Inspiration came from Kember’s archive of doo-wop and rock’n’roll records which is not so much sampled directly as evoked on the acoustic rock’n’roll guitar strum of Tex Mex-flavoured Gettin’ to the Point and the delightful orchestral mariachi of Livin’ in the After. Lennox’s soaring tenor is pure Beach Boys homage on Edge of the Edge, contrasting with Kember’s deeper drawl on Everyday, while Everything’s Been Leading To This indulges their mutual love of modular synthesizers.

And bless to those that liked that Street The Beat song. They're some cool dudes who lived the gang life and got out of it to spread the positivity.

Someone on Reddit captured some of it, can't bring myself to watch it tho. Maybe this means we'll finally get PBs weird twitch channel though!

Absolutely was. Seems like he’s the type to get that kids are being kids on livestreams these days, but not necessarily forgiving of it.

You’re too generous to us with a long weekend playlist like you’ve given us though <3 Have a nice one Pete!

My pleasure . I'm loving it that there's an openness to this era of music that I really didn't expect on this forum .Sharing it is half half the fun for me & I love to be wrong in my assumptions . You have a nice one there too my friend xp

I’ve definitely picked up some great recs over the decade or so of popping in here. Sharing one in the spirit—though not from the same time period or genre—that encapsulates an infectious intro you can’t get out of your head. Wonderful background to the record too.

listening to Pete's weakened mix on my Saturday afternoon -- choice!

some old faves in there (King Tubby, Lee Perry, Desmond Dekker, Monks) but lots of great new-to-me tunes here that have got me boppin' around

joy of joys, living the dream -- endless appreciation to SB... telling my neighbours i've got the Pete Kember blessings mix going...who could argue with that

This is the one I'm most excited for. When I first heard this last year from the Madrid set it instantly became so classic to me. Ahhh one more week!!!!!

LMAO on how different PB and SB are. Love the fact that they asked for the promo clip at the end and SB "conveniently" disconnected. Reminds me of a classic MF DOOM lyric.

i mean the interviewer is awful but noahs actually being really sweet and throwing him a bone here. he couldve so easily been totally silent and rolled his eyes at every stupid question but he played along and had a good sense of humor about it.

Nice Job . Thank you ! Feel free to add the previous jams too .

Thank you , but not really .
It's fun doing interviews w Noah . He told me he wished he could be more vocal in his I/vs . And now he is , and it's awesome . Awesome vibe .
For sure I wouldn't have arrived at the mindfame I have without having taken a leaf or two from his book . I think I said before , when he told me the story behind Tropic of Cancer , pfff.... it was a quantum moment for me .

Love your vibes Blindmowing . So happy it's enjoyable & seeding the vibes for you . I imagine your neighbours think you're a little crazy : ) loveable , but a little crazy . Perfect .
btw , that Tubby dub version of the Eric Donaldson Cherry jam is one of Noah's faves . He showed me that version . He played King Tubby's "lost treasures" as his LP at the RESET party in Lisbon .

hey Moooop , yeah -it's veryy different . Partly because he forgot his lyrics , partly because it's a very diff arrangement . The RESET version was done & dusted before the Madrid set . I know he had a lot of songs over from the AC record . My favourites from the demos did'nt get used to my knowledge . I think the Madrid set was all new stuff he's working on .

I love that version of events , but Not entirely proud to say I would have cracked ,unlike Noah .
Truth is .....The zoom ran out ..... Beautiful dumb luck ......I got saved by the bell !
I love how different we are too & I LMAO about that pretty regularly .
I might be deluding myself , but I consider myself one of Noah's more normal friends , so imagine ... : )

yeah I enjoyed the interview a lot despite the dumb questions, I don't watch enough interviews of my favorite bands for whatever reason

(OH ALSO the harry styles song in question is a fuckin banger)

as his LP at the RESET party in Lisbon .

Got to like what kills... I guess people are probably the #1 cause to that

Great to hear it wasn't so bad for you. I'm a total misanthrope so I couldn't stomach having to deal with questions like that. Was great to hear a good conversation on "genre deism" -- the way you and Noah bounce off of each other is awesome. Reminds me of how me and my friend are, total ying to the yang-- he's the one reminding me I can't just tell everyone to piss off, haha.

Can't believe we're almost to the finish line though, so exciting! I've been moving house and I'll be checking out some of the weakened jams as I paint, never got into much stuff before the 60s besides some jazz so this is my sign to get started.

Perfect result . You know what follows a bad day though my friend ? A better one .....
It's normal . There's no good days without bad days . Otherwise it'd be like the Galbraith in Gullivers Travels . Just constant unthrilling sameness . Acceptance of that makes tough days less tough . Hope goodtimes are rolling today xp

Nice yr dipping yr toes in the 60's ... A lot of killer flavours in that decade. I think time is elastic in music trajectory & the 60's was a particularly fertile era . but you have to dig around a little to find the gems in any these decades ......lot of novelty records & junk too....hope these seeds help .
I think bar the Troggs sample , all the tracks have a more 50's than 60's vibe as they're already in kinda sub genres up & rolling from 55 . I feel the sixties didn't seem to get truly rolling & FAB before the 4 , and musically 63 could easily kinda sound like 59 .
Buddy Holly, for example , died in feb 59 but was still having hits in '63. It was an interesting stretch ....
Time passed slower and more things got to slot in . People were less distracted maybe ...

But woo hoo . Just a kiss away now . Got another vid for you too after the RESET party LP playback too.
Made by Joana Linda & Fern Perreira .
Dang Dang Dang .....
Hope some of you are in the social mood to get together & will join us ! Planning a party here myself . Gonna be a late one in Portugal : )
