I have cycled through almost every track being my favorite on Sung Tongs, I hesitate to pick one even now (historically Winters Love but maybe it’s the meditative trance of Visiting Friends, or could it be the catharsis of We Tigers, or probably it’s the bewildering and knotty Mouth Wooed Her).
Years ago I couldn’t connect with the Softest Voice or the final three tracks, but the album has always continued to shapeshift for me in terms of meaning and impact. I just find it to be a deeply healing and warm listen—there’s nothing else like it.

First AC song I ever heard :) Found it from a response on a Yahoo answers question asking for good indie rock bands (ah, the esoteric ways I used to discover music as a resourceless 15 year old!). Some dude put down a bunch of songs from different bands, including Leaf House by Animal Collective. Didn't know what to make of it at first, but kept finding myself drawn to it. It was unlike anything I'd ever heard, as I grew up in a small rural Aussie town where no one listened to anything even remotely alternative. Grew to love it of course.

Awesome, thanks. It sounds fantastic. I also love the flip side, like a more ecstatic, warm, slinky take on Crescendolls.

Fucking hell, so it does. What an amazing production.

For info, the Bandcamp release seems to be EP only so you get Step By Step now and the other four tracks end of May.

Boomkat has the single which includes the single mix, 12" mix and Creative Source, that Crescendolls style track which I also love.

Boomkat WAV is also marginally bigger than Bandcamp, for info, so it's approx 1.4Mb better.

There's a lot more detail here even than in that recent vinyl rip, crisp little snapping hats and the pads sound fucking enormous and enveloping, really warm and dreamy.

On a highway is so beautiful. I forgot how hard that song could boom you. The percussion and harmonies... Also I think i can kinda reminds me of a sung tongs song but i have been listening to it a lot. The vocalsss and how they interact and the guitar (what if that shit was acoustic)... its just electric, but its like person pitch saying shit over and over mantra experience... but shit is so unique to that time period too...

imagining once LP2 and music box are released someone making a monster 2.5hr long album of time skiffs/LP2/music box tracks that didn't make it onto the 2 albums with transitions that encompasses the whole era like reaper madness/tomboiled, would be sick

Haha. That's exactly how it happened to me, too. I was listening to a lot of punk/hardcore music at the time and bands like The Locust and The Blood Brothers were starting to get me more interested in experimental music.

Animal Collective was so far away from anything that I would normally listen to. I wrote off WCWAR because it was "too indie" or something. Then one of my friends played Grass on a mix CD while we were hotboxing his car and I really liked the simple melody, but the screaming chorus is what sealed the deal. I went home and listened to HCTI and liked Hey Light because it also had screaming in it. Then I listened to Leaf House and Purple Bottle on Myspace and the rest is history...

My first AC was Strawberry Jam in 2007. Everyone on atease was talking about the freebird so I decided to check it out. When Peacebone was over, I remember thinking... "what the fuck did I just listen to" haha. I had never heard anything like it. I wasn't sure how I felt about it but kept listening to the album. Reverend Green was the song that made everything click for me. Not sure why. Then I remember searching for the rest of their records and finding out they were playing shows with songs from a completely different album! Strawberry Jam wasn't even officially out yet lol. I got some of the early MPP boots and became obsessed.

Anyone remember a Bluish cover from like fifteen years ago?

Girl with a shaved head, guy playing double bass, think they might have been inside a wardrobe or bathroom.

Her vocal is better than the original in terms of the melody. Was like a lilting New Orleans jazzy twang to it.

I remember seeing a video many years ago of a band covering Fireworks at what looked like a show in someone's backyard. The video was kinda dark and grainy, but I remember the performance sounding sick. Does this ring any bells for anyone?
