Long time lurker, finally arrived at The Everywhere Place. Would anyone be inclined to send a Skiff my way, perhaps by a freedom flyer?

Can I get that HQ Birdie? My Vinyl hasn't even shipped yet! I've also bought the album twice! Preordered on bandcamp digitally, then decided I wanted that ruby wax.

In Hand! Thanks!

This Passer-by is def a lot better in full quality and its place in the track list is starting to make sense to me. I think I'll actually be able to accept this version into my heart now.

^same. I can't even really picture what the old autotune/Fever Ray voice would even be like or if it'd "fit" on this record as is, meaning I GUESS I don't miss that anymore.

Might want the lyrics for that one the most, along with DS and R&D

I know a lot of you guys don't care about reviews/reviewers, but on RYM Time Skiffs is currently sitting at 3.96/5 after 200 ratings, that's pretty goddamn high. Suppose this is before the flood of the uninitiated come in over the next few days. But it's awesome to see AC getting so much love. They deserve it.

This album is a triumph. I'm so happy for AC, for me, and for all of us. Rejoice.

Haha it's currently #1 on the 2022 chart too, which like you said doesn't really mean anything, but its fun to see :)

I still find it very interesting that if domino picked the singles, that they picked three tracks in a row that each featured a extended ambient section

^it is kinda weird! maybe they give them loose suggestions or something, and they themselves suggested that that would work. Cuz songs like DS and Cherokee could seemingly totally be singles just as much as that middle stretch. Fantastic singles tho, gotta say.

this means way more to me than the random publication reviews. And of course it'll drop below Spirit and MPP's ranking once its actually out and settles, but yeah. You can't deny the average fan's perception of this era as a "comeback" as much as us old-head diehards would resist a simplification like that (some of us at least...)

Man, just wrote a beefy paragraph that just got deleted due to having to log in. Guess it's lost to time. Maybe that's a sign, y'all have summed it up perfectly anyway. This album is monumental. So glad we have it in high quality now. Makes such a difference.
Btw if anyone needs the HQ bird feel free to pm me.
P.S. Been lurking for a few months but only recently made it official with y'all. Excited to finally be a part of the convo!

Blasting car keys on my speakers and man this song really is fuckin sinister. So violent. Don't hurt me Panda.

Avey is absolutely so lovely though, the second part of the chorus turns the steamy junkyard into a wormhole with Dali clocks floating around, kinda see those like 50's cartoon cat clocks too. Love his Whaddit I Done hand-vocal Wawa thing at the end too

Keys into PJ also finally clicked into place for me also.

I don’t dislike Car Keys but it feels the most changed out of all of them to me. Still trying to wrap my head around the album version sounding like that and them playing it the way they did back in September, feels like two different songs almost.

I listened to "24" and Walker/Appreciate less than anything, so to me it does sound super faithful to the live version. But I didnt obsess over it like Cherokee/Passerby

Was thinking on how TS feels to me in comparison to the rest of their records. You know sound as a concept? The instrumentation and sound palette of MPP (as an example) is very sparkly with modulated synthesizers stacked on top of each other. Has a lot of aquatic sensibility to it but I don't really think it really goes too underwater. I never actually got that impression. MPP to me might take some tunes to the beach but there's also hanging out on the gazebo or sweating your ass off in a hotel/apartment (depends if you're listening to bluish or summertime clothes)

I think I would actually give TS the most aquatic of their releases. It reminds me of like a sea cavern. The instrumentation is mysterious but enchanting. The harmonic voices echo off the cavern walls. Panda's drumming can be heard so prominently like banging on the "walls" themselves. Carries a lot of the vibe of every track. There's a lot more instrument trickery than you know, electronic/synth ones. A lot of sounds seemingly come out of nowhere or sneak up on you. So much detail and expanse too.

Anyone suffering Demoitis about car keys- I had the experience of hearing it enough prior to understand it as a song but I never dug my teeth into it, and the studio version sounds exactly like my memory of it. So that bodes well for how familiarity may smooth away the new faults you feel in it

I've been so immersed in this batch of songs for the past couple years that I don't even really know how to comprehend Time Skiffs being an album that just, exists. It's an unavoidable part of this sort of hype: that eventually the music will go from a larger-than-life concept that can be as perfect and cathartic as your mind can imagine to being a simple static collection of songs anyone can go listen to on Spotify. This is the first time I've ever experienced that transition as an AC fan, and I'm curious to see how my feelings about it evolve as this release cycle recedes further and further into the past. In a way, listening to old bootlegs has allowed me to sort of vicariously have that experience with their other records—to swim in the primordial pools from which they materialized so to speak—but still, I wasn't actually there, and in each case I was fully familiar with the eventual finished product before tearing away the curtain and getting the full fanatical experience. This time it's the other way around, and I wonder if Time Skiffs and its followup will ever really register as studio albums to me, rather than as an intoxicating communally experienced world of sound of which official documents happen to exist.
