Is this the "to you sweetheart aloha" sample someone mentioned earlier? Was curious how that bit would be on the record
That moment is so fucking transcendental. Makes you stop to realize, "woah, I'm actually like not in another world" then it sucks you back in. The start/stop nature of some of these songs gives me Native Belle/Too Soon vibes.
Also I ordered off Bandcamp and supposedly it won't even ship til next week. So ya don't complain too hard ladies n gents

My digital copy will simply arrive into my account at the stroke of midnight. Don't even need a dusty old clunky ass record player to listen

Out there looking for a boost and trying to catch up on 15+ pages of this thread after being gone over the weekend. Would appreciate whatever good split is floating around out there. Thanks!
Edit: Got it and giving it a listen right now! Thanks for giving me what Domino can't -- My pre-order hasn't even left the station yet.

Mine hasn't even dispatched. Where are you that it isn't coming until Saturday? I guess they excuse not being on time because they email you a digital download? Really annoying though. I am trying to blast off with some Special K for my listening experience
i'm near boston
hell when i was in san diego i would often get them 4-5 days after release so this is an improvement on that at least

I really cant believe how fucking good Car Keys is. I knew theyd kill it in the studio but holy shit that outro? Some of their best work in ages. I really cant believe the quality of this album so many years after their "golden era". They truly are gods

Loud and Quiet review... https://www.loudandquiet.com/reviews/an ... me-skiffs/
oof. doesn't say too much about the music itself just talks about how they're trying to relive their glory days. also describes R&D as "The War on Drugs at the bottom of a wishing well" which... ugh

Not going to read that L&Q review but that says more about the reviewer than the music
If they were trying to relive their "glory days" they'd just put drops in everything, fuck off

"A succession of EPs and solo projects vividly plugged the gaps of our impatience, while charitable ‘audio-visual’ releases oozed from Baltimore’s psychedelic sewage systems, as if philanthropy was their rationale for making less interesting music"
The fuck? What a piece of shit. God forbid musicians actually care about something and apply their art towards something beyond music criticism. Jesus what a joke

probably next week, doubt they'll prioritize it this release day. maybe a short blurb will get into their "new releases to listen to this week" on Friday if we're lucky
hmmm idk i'd bet on friday or earlier

Haha I quite like reading the scathing reviews, there's always a few, especially from our side of the pond. Recall the Quietus' one for Painting With being incredibly vitriolic

Can you even imagine what TS2 will sound like if this is the quality of remotely recorded material?

What's the quality of the freebird? 128?

This quote from the talkhouse piece is super interesting to me. I was at the govball show they cut short in the middle of WWIWS and Avey walked off stage.

its 320 but a vinyl rip and I can hear the exact amount of dust I need to wipe off of the needle to make it sound good.

to many people, the idea of a new animal collective album in 2022 is basically a non-starter. context will outweigh text, the album will sound at least a little like tired nostalgia to them, and i think it's best to just accept that that's normal and okay. of course if you're an ac fanatic then you're gonna assess time skiffs totally on its own terms as a self-contained work, but if you're not then you're not, and i think it's a little silly to be surprised and indignant about that. evaluating an album based on its context—both within the artist's overall career and within the broader artistic culture surrounding it—is what good music criticism looks like.
